St. Xavier 27 Highlands 26 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

Highlands freshmen fall in an outstanding game tonight to the freshmen from Louisville St. Xavier. Highlands went for two and the win with under a minute to go and failed. Two of the referees said the teams played more like varsity teams than freshmen teams. Two excellent quarterbacks.

Lets have a rematch in two or three years for these boys and see how it works out then as well :thumb:

I think this series for these freshmen teams makes a lot of sense. Congrats to the Baby Bengals for getting their first stripes.

Way to go Coach Brockman, Coach McCue, and Baby Bengals! Sorry I couldn't be there with you tonight. I'm sure it will be a FUN bus ride home tonight.

Does anyone who was there have any details on how the scoring went?

Great Job Birds......Man the future looks bright for the Birds at QB. Maybe even next year. McCoy did a very nice job tonight running and throwing the football. He also has a cannon of a arm. X has some very nice players. #50 is an absolute stud, and seemed like he was in on every tackle. Great night to watch some football.

St. X got opening kickoff and drove on 10 plays for the first score. Highlands returned kickoff for their first. St. X went on 4th and 6 from their own 35 and were stopped. Tiger defense appeared to hold the birds but were called for pass interference. Highlands finished the drive to go up 12-6. St. X changed qbs and had a run of long passes for a couple scores aided by highlands turnovers and a nice hurry up passing game. It appeared to be on the verge of getting out of hand but the birds did a great job in second half. Then an hour delay for a fire alarm. No, that is not a joke. Highlands scores on a long drive early in fourth quarter and tigers can't run much clock. Final drive was a classic. Birds march, face third and long at least 4 times. Execute 35 yard half back pass and punch it in. They go for two and tigers smother the counter trap. Gutsy call by coaches but smart decision, IMO. A shame either team had to lose. Too many great plays and players to mention for both sides but the other posts and refs are correct...these two teams could matchup with many varsity squads. And win. The entire highlands experience was a class act. 5A beware for the next four years. That frosh team won't play a close game the rest of their season, IMO.

Thanks so much for the detailed report CentreTigers and welcome to Bluegrass Preps. The more Tigers on line, the better it gets! :thumb:

The 90-yard kick-off return by Highlands in the first quarter for a touchdown was run by Jac Collinsworth, son of Cris Collinsworth.

Is it true that the Highlands JV team defeated the Ryle JV team 37-21 on Saturday?

That is true....

Did the Highlands freshman game against Saint X begin at 7pm last night?

Did the Highlands freshman game against Saint X begin at 7pm last night?

Yes it did and it was a very nice crowd to boot..

Who are the two main rb's for the frosh? I know the Birds have a massive line with True and Schweitzer.. Those are two big boys..

The rb's were Seidl, Collinsworth and Streeter. The line did a great job last night. Those were some BIG boys on the other side of the ball. Schweitzer didn't play last night but will be back next week.
