Congrats to Male. St. X’s Jack Sivori playing solid at quarterback as a freshman with zero days of practices in pads was impressive. The defense did a great job tonight making plays and keeping it in striking distance. Any TEAM that can sustain injuries to the starting 2 quarterbacks and starting running back and can keep the game within a single possession is a testament to the staff and young men. Although the future is very bright, this team slugged it out in the face of severe adversity. Go Tigers.

I heard it was 27-14 Tigers after a third quarter long pass for a TD and then a defensive fumble return TD.

St. Matthews's is in the epicenter of Louisville so they count. Trinity, X, H, Central, CAL, Desales=title town. But for the sake of the thread it's overly impressive that Boyle county produces so many winners. They deserve the namesake. Big congrats for the great weekend!

Rondale Moore. Will Stein got a gem in this kid to commit to Texas. Read a lot of posts about THS not needing him to beat STX but he sat on the sideline for the first quarter amid a game that was a stalemate. Then the final box score says 3 receivers catch TD passes (not named Moore)...after 5,14,25 yard chuncks by MR. Moore from every position. Take him out of the game and it's competitive. Not many high school players can single handedly replace a lack of power run game with athleticism on well-scripted short to intermediate passing plays against solid defenses. Ask Moeller. Kid is special and mixed with great schemes and precision, lethal. From a life long tiger fan. Big things in that kid's future. Great win by the rocks but Rondale Moore didn't make news with his lack TD's because he set up his teammates.

60 yard field goal as a sophomore and an 89 yard punt qualify a scholarship in my opinion. In fact, what school has a player pull double duty? Always baffled me, but they usually have specialists so if this kid can pull off both, he should be able to "sell" his way into a big time scholarship. He could replace three players...

Agreed but The H is on another level this year based on scores alone. If Male doesn't get the trophy, wow. The great thing about high school football is the redeeming factor. As an avid tiger fan, it hurts to type but it's true...get better and adjust or go home. Advantage Trinity. I respect that, but don't like it. Male is the undisputed best team in the state of Kentucky. Trinity was 4 mistakes away from winning by 5 tds, but St. X was also a dropped pick 6 from winning the game. That's why the game is played. Male is #1 Trinity is #2 Number 3 is open to sk, stx, Ryle, manual, McCracken, Scott co I'm a tiger fan but I place my confidence in a male/trinity matchup and believe male breaks through finally. Actually. Good for ky football.

20-7 Rocks because extra point was blocked. St. X can't move the ball and can't execute tackles according to radio announcers. Trinity hasn't thrown the ball beyond 5 yards down field. St. X not adjusting and has negative yards of total offense. Running clock coming soon if there aren't some major adjustments for the Tigers. Not looking forward to the Male game at this point.

Listened to the game on the radio broadcast. Saint X announcers were calling 2nd and 3rd team players in the middle of the second quarter and all of the 4th quarter. Good to see lots of players getting some action for the Tigers and no need to rub it in versus the Birds. Kept hearing about the brick school building, stairs and stands very close to the field. Has there been any injuries attributed to the stadium layout? Never been to the Ft. Thomas field which is why I ask.

How great would a semi-state playoff field be of St. X, Male, Trinity and Scott County be? Crazy fun football in our state. Too bad.

I was under the impression that Woodford had an impressive Oline and North Bullitt had a new coach, scheme and staff and a much depleted talent pool. Who coaches the North Bullitt team? What a start to a season for that program! Wow. Whoever made that hire is a shining star for Bullitt County.

If I had to guess, I would think "thuggish" means that they talk trash "don't exactly go use humility" when they play. Think "TO" and Legarrett Blount (good him if you don't know who he is) versus Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders. I suspect the "Saint X coach caper" where he was accused of "tipping of the hat" to Beatty and Trinity fans in last year's State championship game is no longer a one sided argument for being "classless." In my opinion, if both cases are true, running up the score running up the score and then yelling at Manual's coach to "get off his field", Beatty has taken it to a whole new level. Now, IF all the above is true: Tipping your hat to the crowd: 3 on a scale of 10 for lacking class Making sure you punch it in the endzone one more time and having to be removed from the field by your AD: 7 on a scale of 10 for lacking class But, Beatty is at Trinity to "win football games" and "not make friends with 14-15 year olds", so I guess this doesn't contradict anything is coaching contract. *side note-I heard the other day that Beatty is purely a football coach. Most coaches (if not all) have teaching schedules and school related responsibilities. Is this true? Did Trinity hire a person to draw up football plays, full time? Just wanted to ask. My buddy said he saw Robert Beatty at noon on a weekday (a school day), dressed in athletic gear sitting at a restaurant drawing up plays on a pad of paper. So I just wanted to ask if he is a teacher or purely a football coach. I digress... The funny part of this whole thing is reading the same Trinity fans who berated Glaser last year for tipping his hat are now justifying these actions. Does Trinity have great athletes? You bet. USC/Florida scholarship caliber athletes, in fact. If you want to know about trinity football ask the parents of the 2009 football class and 98% of the 2010 class. Well...wait on the 2010 class. If Trinity gets up by 30-40 points, a sophomore player who virtually starts will still be in the game running for touchdowns and kids who have dreamed of playing for Trinity since they were six will be sitting on the sideline and the parents ears will begin to steam. So, just like last year, when the 2009 parents went bananas (I read the C-J comments, it was documented) after Trinity didn't put in any of their "terrible" seniors when the game was decided at the state game...the 2010 parents will be quiet until its all over because the Rocks might hoist the trophy but this will be the second class of seniors in a row that don't see the field, even in blowouts. Just to wrap things up, I thought I recall Saint X going for a fake field goal with 5-6 minutes left in the game last year and hearing quite a few comments about that being "running up the score"? Where does that fall on the scale of running up the score, compared to say, running 3 plays in 25 seconds with a timeout to give a starter the ball one more time when you are up by 30. At least the fake field goal play went to a kid that rarely got to play on offense and was playing mostly special teams, if anything. Oh, and there were 5 minutes left in the game, not 25 seconds and a timeout.

It will at least be fun to "switch positions" and play the coveted underdog role until the meeting until the second meeting (and I understand that assumes Ballard, Eastern or Male won't derail one of the teams because they might actually be set up to do that this year). Hopefully, with hard work, a team concept and good coaching, Saint X will develop into a competitive team come November!!

Jim, An interesting twist to the typical debate. I tend to agree with you. However, I would add that the county schools really, really like to ADD another school instead of investing in an existing school to help build better facilities and provide larger enrollment. I wonder what kind of program pride Nelson County Central will have in the next few years. Martha Layne Collins? I think we are saying the same thing though. It's all about vested interest. Those who don't have it usually resort to whining. Those that do have it will resort to manning a phone in a telethon, working concessions and writing checks to their alma mater. I think your idea is fresh though. But the opposition would still just look for the easy way out, as does the majority of society. "It ain't me, so it's gotta be you". Good post.

On the other side of the ball, a tremendous defensive championship game can be in the argument as well. 1997 St X-3, Trinity-0 was a thriller regarding the slim room for error to decide it all. One fumble and one field goal decided the game beteen the arch rivals. And it was the first time the two catholic powers ever faced off in the championship. I believe it was a record crowd (not sure if it remains, but it was at the time-I believe 22,000 attended. And it was 20 degrees at the start of the game! It should be in contention for the above reasons. Defensive fireworks? Haha

cooperstown, I can't recommend the school highly enough. If he is anything like me, he would DEFINITELY question the small school/town atmosphere. After attending school for a few months, I realized how easily it was to visit and partake in the large cities around the campus (i.e. Louisville 1 hour away, UofK 30 minutes, and UC around 1.5 hours). Frankly, if it wasn't so easy to get to "big time college towns" I would not have chosen to attend the small school. I would have been influenced by my friends and their enthusiasm for partying. If he wants to stay around the Kentucky area, a Centre degree will in fact land him jobs without going beyond "hello" in an interview. The financial help is tremendous and so are the academic scholarships. I found out after a few months of school that I should have applied because almost everyone who applies gets rewarded some kind of scholarship. Anyhow, if he would like to hear more information about the school and/or meet with Andy Frye (the head football coach) please let me know. I'm willing to do just about anything for a kid considering Centre (as you will find is the case for most Centre Alum). Wherever he goes, I'm sure he will have made the right decision!

I played at Saint Xavier and then at Centre for four years. I was ready for football to be finished when I played my last high school game, but I started getting the "itch" a few weeks later. After my last college game, I was prepared to let my playing days go. I HIGHLY recommend playing as long as possible. I actually think the original post that suggested "it's not worth it" is ridiculous. All the things that make High School football "worth it" are still present at the college level. In the case of small colleges, football is pure. It's not about money, fans or an agenda. It's about the game. It's true that a few hundred or thousand fans might be the largest crowd you see at games, but do most people strap on a helmet at 10 years old for the fans? Why play small college football? Why play in High School? Why even pick up a helmet at all? The injury scenario is present at all levels of football, and many other sports too. When I went to Centre, football demanded 3-4 hours a day, 6 days a week (in season) so the "commitment level" is similar to Major College football. However, I do believe my coaches cared about me and I still have a wonderful relationship with almost everyone of them. If you ever want to coach football, I suggest playing small college ball, even if you don't get on the field. From what I witnessed, anyone could be on the team, but you had to be pretty dern good to see playing time. Playing at the next level really helps you understand the cerebral side of the game much more. I think it should be a prerequisite for anyone who wants to coach football. And what better way to stay committed to your school work and academic requirements? If you go D-3 or NAIA you WILL graduate in 4 years and you will probably get better grades because you have a support network of teammates (or 100 best friends right off the bat) that keep you focused. In fact, I would argue those players who "walk on" or don't see playing time at larger universities should strongly consider small college ball. They would get to play football, instead of watching their friends play in front of 50K people and they would graduate in 4 years with a tremendous educational experience. I did not say tremendous education on purpose, because your education is what you make of it and you can get a great education anywhere that offers college level classes. Since the NFL is all about 40 times, shuttle runs times, vertical jump and bench press reps of 225 lbs....a player that is good enough to play can make it not matter where he goes to school. At Centre, I traveled abroad to Jamaica where I had an internship at Red Stripe, had another summer internship after my junior year, traveled to Germany to play a semi-professional football team before my senior season, served as a PAID residence assistant and residence director for my last three years and walked across the stage to receive a degree that I earned in four years with professors who knew my first and last name and who stood in line and applauded all the seniors who worked so diligently over that time. I have 3 friends who were offered jobs right out of college from alumni of Centre "just because they were part of the family". My point isn't about Centre or me. It is to say that overlooking the opportunity to play football or even attend a small college could be a mistake. Yeah, my left ankle gets a little stiff when winter comes around because I had a high ankle sprain playing college football, but it was a small price to pay for all the blessings that I received along the way.
