Highlands ability to spring AC to the outside along with a couple of 1st half Ryle calculated risks (that failed, but should have been good bets) was the difference in this game.

AC was better than expected. Not to take anything away from Miles Simpson, but AC is probably the best open field/avoidance runner in the state. Very few running backs of that size/speed combination can see the field like AC. He went untouched (repeatedly) by 'freezing' the secondary in their tracks and cutting unexpectedly and creatively weaving down the field. He is simply unpredictable, kind of like Lewis McGahee was in college.

The Ryle sophomore, Travis Elliott, is probably his equal already but is a different style of runner and has a less versatile offense. If Ryle can keep its composure and find better versatility on 'O' (to keep Elliott fresh, which they started to show in the 2nd half) they should show better next time around with Highlands.

As for all the scuffles at the beginning of the game, just part of the game. If you haven't lived it, then no sense in commenting on it. Much worse goes on that no one ever sees.

I was wondering if some of the hype about Collinsworth had to do with his name. The times I saw him last year he looked very good, but not in the "great" category (maybe I just saw the wrong games). He is indeed the real deal and his name has nothing to do with the accolades he receives/earns. And to top it off, he plays the game with class and lets his play on the field do his talking (a few players could learn from this). He is truly an elite back. Hopefully Simpson will get better and it'll be fun watching those two battle it out for the best back in NKY.

Good game Birds, but not great. Ryle is a very good team, with some big, big players. They will give Simon Kenton a run for their money.

I sat, with a Highlands shirt on and cheering for Highlands, in the middle of the Ryle section with family who has children going to Ryle. Ryle fans were very nice and respectful (no one hit me or threw things at me), and we had good conversations about the teams.

Ryle was tough and fought hard. The Birds rose to the occasion and beat a very good team. Highlands pass defense needs some work, but the Birds are progressing well. Keep working hard to improve, to win. :thumb:

GO BIRDS!

Two thumbs up the the Ryle Event staff! Great consessions, great atmosphere!

Ryle will be a force as this year goes on. Kettlecorn rules!!!!:thumb:

I wish Coop or Rich Hempel or someone would write a check so that Ryle can get rid of the Mr Microphone sound system.

Mr. Microphone sound system? :idunno:

I thought they were using string and tin cans. For such great concession food, turf field, lights, stands/seating, press box, parking, and fans, the sound system has to be the worst in NKy.

Many people had no idea the national anthem was being sung until she was halfway through it. We were right under some speakers and never heard a thing all night. Everything else was top notch though.

I must agree with the sound system criticism.

At roughly $5/head average and probably 5,000 in attendance per game they should have generated enough gate/concession revenue in the first two games to pay for an upgrade to the sound system to match the quality of the turf and rest of stadium. Let's pay Mr. Borland his due respect and make sure everyone can hear his stadium name announced before the contests, as well as our National Anthem. I for one got caught with my hat on :-(

Mr. Demler, do you read these?

The PA system is very, very, very, very poor at Ryle. Everything else is first class. I cannot believe nothing is done to fix it. Are we aloud to comment about incompetent school administrators or do we need to just stick to the game? By the way, congrats to Highlands. They are the class of 5A in KY again this year. I do look forward to the rematch.

Let's keep in mind that it wasn't that long ago that the PA system at David Cecil Memorial wasn't any better. Much like Highlands did, someone at Ryle will get it done and then we can complain of the announcer yelling that the last run was enough for a "Crimson's First Down!!!!"

PS - Yes, I know that Ryle is called the Raiders, and that no PA announcer at Ryle would ever make that mistake. It was just a reference to week 1 at Manual, and everyone at that game will get the joke!

The gate money at Ryle doesn't go to the football team or to fix things at the stadium - it is spread out over all sports - I agree that the sound system is terrible and with the facilities this should be taken care of but has always been and unfortunately I don't think it is the #1 priority for Mr. Demler and would probably have to come from a private donation.

Hey, I could care less about the sound system. The facilities at Ryle are great. Buy a program and watch the game. You can look up the players names and numbers as you need. I've always enjoyed attending games at their field.

One of the prettiest settings in NKY without question. However, its not just looking at your program. I do that any way. Its the darn dropping of the mic followed by non-stop crackling and distortion. Painful.
