  1. Some schools don’t punt because running another offensive play is safer. If a team like Douglas wanted to come after a kick what do you think the odds are they would get a block or the punt never get off? Who does a team like Douglas have returning punts? What are the better odds? Running another play or kicking to one of the best athletes on the field with space and pretty darn good athletes blocking for them. What do teams practice more offense or punting? No clue if that is the complete thinking but those are some reasons don’t do it. Franklin Simpson I think the last time they won state didn’t punt. They did line up like a field goal and used that instead of punting.
  2. Well if that’s true it wouldn’t surprise me. I have a friend that coaches at an academy in FL. A majority of his players are internationals and complete freaks. They get kids that are good athletes but aren’t good enough for soccer and basketball in their country. People send their kids there to get developed and to get college scholarships. Most of his kids come from Europe, Canada and Africa. They came up a few years ago and played Moeller and almost beat them. They aren’t on the level of IMG but talent wise they are pretty crazy.
  3. We don’t have many choices. We have to go after school with breaks.
  4. You could be completely right. Like I said I’ve seen a lot of strange things happen. Kids, coaches and officials do strange things at times. Special teams is always an adventure especially with smaller or younger roster sizes. Kids space out and forget they are on a special teams unit and there was a substitute so both or neither go out the next time. Appears was the best term I knew to use. That wasn’t an indication that I felt it was completely planned out. Heck if it was, while illegal, is one heck of a plan. To give comparison if a team at the end of a game had 12 defenders in on their goal line defense I would make the comment that it appears as if they used Buddy Ryan’s special goal line defense. Not saying the team did and only that it looks like it.
  5. Maybe. I’ve seen some crazy stuff happen over the years. We’ll never know due to tactic used.
  6. Not agreeing or disagreeing really but why do you feel it had zero impact on the game? They kicked a ball into a dead area. It appears to be a bait and switch type of deal. Bait the kick and bring the kid in.
  7. Franklin Co over Scott Co I would think has to be in the discussion.
  8. Don’t forget the RB. No one covers the RB or the guy after the jet sweep fake.
  9. By rule I believe you can. No player is allowed to play more than 8 quarters in a week. Typically Saturday through Friday. OT counts as an extension of the 4th quarter. Now from a game prep position I’m not sure many teams would want to do that.
  10. I don’t think it’s a big deal as far as win/loss. I think alternative options presented here are pretty good solutions. The part I don’t agree with and is in bad taste is the forfeit fee. It appears if your team gets Covid and has to cancel you take the L and have to write a check. That is rough.
  11. @Hungover_in_Andover Scott Co is wing-t and not even typical wing-t. They are an open side Belly oriented offense that runs Belly Sweep and Tackle Trap but not any of the Belly series. They base out of about 5 plays and 4 formations. I haven’t seen Station but if they are going triple then my guess is flexbone. There aren’t many flexbone teams past Great Crossing in the state. I don’t know if there are any split back veer teams in the state. Now year one and especially game one in the triple isn’t easy. It takes a ton of reps to get good at. It takes a good deal of time for coaches to learn how to coach it. The point is those two offenses are not the same. They aren’t defended the same. They attack defenses the same in only the manner of they are both if/then approaches. Even how a defense has to play assignment football isn’t the same. If Station sticks with the triple and gets good at it over time then watch out. There is a reason Alabama stopped scheduling triple teams. They are a royal pain to get ready for in a week. If you want to go crazy for a week try to get a scout to to run triple or wing-t. Douglas has always been good. I expect nothing less of them.
  12. They better be or they risk not having a job.
  13. Fleming Co is now looking for a Friday game.
  14. I thought Franklin Co was going to Scott HS?
  15. Does this mean the coaches box is back to 10 to 10?
  16. There are better paths to D1 than sprint football. If more money was the end goal then most of the guys at top jobs in KY could go other places to coach and make more money. Coaching college and beginning a new program is a whole other set of headaches a lot of people don’t want to mess with. Again most guys at top jobs are set up pretty well as far as job duties and other such things. You’ll end up coaching in front of larger crowds and better atmosphere at bigger HS jobs than sprint football. Less job security and a change in one’s approach to retirement. The job just isn’t going to be as appealing as some might think. I’d venture to say there are HS here that have better facilities than Midway. This doesn’t even get into staff, recruiting and a number of other factors. My comment was mainly aimed at the fact that Midway sprint football is not going to have enough appeal to pull what many would consider a big name HS HC.
  17. I can’t see any HS coach leaving a place like Scott Co, Franklin, Boyle, or other current top level programs to go coach sprint football. I could be wrong. High school football is special. Now if a D1 spot on a staff pops open that’s a little different. Combs, and Chuck Smith come to mind in the past. Now a HS coach that is kind of stuck or really hit the ceiling at a mid level type HS might leave. I know Bellarmine got their guy but I would guess there was more to it past coaching college.
  18. Is it 8? I thought in the press release they said they would play 11 man with the 178 pound limit.
  19. Bellarmine is starting sprint football like Midway. So he will be starting the sprint football program from the ground up. Good luck to him and I’m interested to see how the program develops.
  20. Does Holmes have any scrimmages scheduled? At one point they were going to scrimmage Douglas but I believe they typically scrimmage OH teams.
  21. I’m very surprised Scott Co isn’t in the top 20. They might have a dip in talent due to the split but there are a number of those teams I’d take Scott Co over.
  22. 17 Woodford Co 24 Owen Co 31 Western Hills
  23. Who is Cent Career ranked 20th?
  24. Can’t play up in HS football in the state of KY varsity wise. If you’re not a freshman you can’t be on a field with a jr or above. It’s the same with soccer. There are some HS that had parents start them in school young. They’ll enter their Sr at 16 and won’t turn 17 until part of the way into their Sr year. Now 4+ years of HS weight training, game experience (especially if your school makes playoff runs) and some other factors make a pretty big difference. Due to having possibly two off seasons jacked up from Covid might make that impact a little less but who knows.
