Jack, I think you are incorrect about Ben being All-State, but I'll find out soon and get back to you. As far as Corey goes, he was an animal and one of best birds ever, but make no mistake, Mr. Moore was and still is the benchmark for LB'S not only at HHS, but quite possibly in the entire state, and not only on a HS level. His combo of strength , speed, football smarts, and leadership were on a totally different level from anyone else of his time as a Bird or a Wildcat. BTW, Ben was only overshadowed by one person in all of the names mentioned so far, and thats Marty. Ben had many more than 1 D-1 offer and went to Louisville on scholarship only to leave when the coach (Schnellenberger I believe) would not let him play punter only like he was promised originally. Ben's dad was none to happy and Ben quickly left only to eventually end up at Thomas More to finish out his career.

Great point BigMac. Scarlato also played some FS if I am not mistaken. Hence his number 42, in honor of his favorite player, Ronnie Lott. You forget some other names in that long and distinguished list, such as Sutkamp (1st team All-State linebacker and punter 1986) and Bill Monfort (1987) Greg Roller (1990), and more recently Brent Grover. :thumb:

DMZ76, I agree with you about Bill Roller,(all Rollers for that matter) but lets be realistic here. One Mr. Marty Moore was and still is the measuring stick for HHS and the state of Kentucky for that matter. Truly a man among boys.:thumb:

Chris did indeed graduate in 90 from HHS. Senior starter on 89 State Champ team. He played S and RB if I remember correctly. Wore #47 if memory serves me. He was a very good ball player as a Senior, but I don't think he played much before that other than some jv time. Good luck to him in his future endeavors, but from what I understand, It doesn't include football, teaching, or coaching.:confused:

This game won't be close in my opinion. If the Redhounds line truly averages 275 lbs. , it will get ugly quickly. Speed kills. It absolutely dominates on the high school level. The Breds will be one of the faster, if not the fastest team the Redhounds have played all year and will take advantage of that big d-line in the 2nd half. Breds win running away 34 -7. :eek:

Oldrambler, I remember that game as I attended that game with my dad as a kid (I was about 10 at the time) I remember being bundled up and staying to the very end. My family was and still is close friends with the Sutkamp family and I remember seeing the picture in the Post the next morning of all 3 Sutkamp brothers with their father (Bellevues team Doc) after the game and all you can see is teeth and the whites of their eyes in the picture. The original proof of the picture hung in their basement for years and was quite the conversation starter. :thumb:

Your correct about the stop in OT. I was at that game also, I don't remember it being cold oddly enough, I just remember it was Ken Shields Jr. that scored the game winning TD for the Birds. A year later I became friends with "Tank" Phillips from Belfry @ EKU. Nice guy. We talked about that game often.

Yes, he did go to Notre Dame and was very successful. Started on and off for 3 years, as they did not allow freshman to play then. He was drafted by the NY FOOTBALL GIANTS in 1970 and played one year until a career ending knee injury cut his pro career short. He then went to UK law school and became an internationally known Zoning and Planning attorney and teaches classes @ Univ. of Colorado law school. Very successful indeed. A credit to the NCC community in my eyes.
