Ohio River is expected to crest Sunday evening at 55' in Cincinnati. That may change as more rain continues today in northern Kentucky. What is the flood plain for Newport's new Field Turf field? In other words, what will it take to float the field?

Last night when I drove by Bellevue's field it was under water and Newport's had no standing water. The difference between grass and field turf. Not sure where the flood plain in though!!!!

I wonder if Newport has their turf draining under I-471 over to Bellevue??

I do believe the Corp of Engineer warned Newport Officials about this very thing. Not sure the Corp really care how they spent their money but they did lay out the concerns about the flooding. Dont know what it is going to take to flood that area but my guess is there is some people getting ansy.

That was my thinking... if the creek between Bellevue and Newport continues to get backed up and floods, Bellevue may just get a Field Turf playing surface afterall! Unfortunately, it will have Red and Black endzones.

 

Time will tell - hopefully all work out for the Wildcats on the levee.

Hopefully it wont happen. That would be a terrible thing for such a nice field. Would flood insurance (assuming the school has it) cover the field if damage does happen?

I just spoke to my father in law who lives in Marietta, Ohio. The Marietta College football field has the same turf. In 2004 they had a flood that came up too fast to have time to cover the field. The mud that ended up covering the field was several feet deep. They have cleaned and cleaned and to this day still have mud come up through the turf. The main thing is covering the field with a tarp and even putting up plywood around the fence to keep out as much mud as possible. He is good friends with the AD there and would be glad to put anyone in touch with her if they want more info--just pm me if you are close to the situation and want more info.

These type of turf fields, are made to permeate liquid but retain solids. Often times, the sludge and skim film of mud, can't be properly cleaned unless hosed off completely.

Without question, as most Rivers and water sources, have high counts of particles which are both harmful and unhealthy for human contact.

 

The biggest problem would be cleaning, but the rubber crumb tires, would have to be vacuumed up, removed and replaced. A strong pressure washing, with a mild astringent would help clean.

If my memory serves me, Newport went with 100% rubber because of drainage issues. Or something like that...

The rubber is used as an "in-fill" and helps with drainage. As with any rubber product, gases can be released and be inhaled.

 

Some can be irritating to the skin.
