  1. Doubledeuce, I don't think for a second that it would hurt HHS to not ever get another out of district student, because there just are not that many to begin with, contrary to what some might believe, and the school system is already overcrowded to begin with. The extra money derived from tuition students is minimal at best. If you want your kids to go there, the state money is probably the least of your worries to begin with, I know it would be for me.
  2. You obviously don't know Booms family or you probably wouldn't say that! They bleed Bluebird Blue, and a short 15 minute drive will not prevent them from going to their favorite school. Many, many, students drive well over 15 minutes in NKY to get to their respective parochial schools, so why would it surprise anyone that someone sends their kids to the best public school in the area, or the state for that matter, to take advantage of it?
  3. The Covcath search committee will wise up this time and hire a Covcath guy this time, I believe, because this is an embarrasing situation to have to be in just two years removed from hiring their first coach in 30 years. Wolfe could easily be brought back into the Covcath "family", if he is not already so, if they called his number this time around. He would be an excellent choice! BTW, the guy that played along side of him at CCH was the better LB, IMO!
  4. I, for one, believe Guru is correct. They will dominate every team in NKY. Except for one. We all know who that is!!!!!!
  5. I totally agree with you on this, but this is what often happens when applying to teach or coach in a public school. These candidates often know that it is a possibility their names will get let out, so , unfortunately, they better be ready to except the consequences. On the other hand, I would be glad to know where my coaches loyalties are if I was a Elder fan.:thumb:
  6. Ramsey better hope he gets the job because the Elder faithful will be none to happy about his disloyalty towards the Purple Nation. If he doesn't get the job, I think his career at Elder will be short lived at best. Thats just the way it is on the west side of town. Loyalty and Panther pride means more than even a Championship winning coach.
  7. Jeez 92Bird, nobody was personally attacking Big Zeke. We were simply stating he was definitely not as good of a HS player as he became in college. He would probably tell you himself that his HS career wasn't as good as he would have liked it to be, or could have been. There has simply been many more HHS lineman that had better HS careers, including "Little Zeke". Don't take our opinions so personal. I, for one, couldn't be any prouder of him or Marty for making it in the NFL. They both showed what hard work and love of the sport can do for you if you are dedicated enough:ylsuper:
  8. My dad was a junior at Bellevue when those guys were seniors. He was the kicker and said those guys were pound for pound as tough as anybody he played against, and that includes Xavier and Navy teams he played on. The funny thing is that none of those guys were probably over 180lbs at anytime during their football careers.
  9. I have to go with Zig as best player ever @ running back. He made the others look like little boys when he played. Great career in HS considering he only played about half the snaps the Everson kid did. Great college career also. Would have been great NFL player also had they had arthro back then!
  10. How about going old school and saying Pat Uebel. Definitely one of the best to come out of Bellevue. Went on full ride to UK or to one of the military academies I think. 1950 or 51 I think.
  11. No way. Neither one was even the best lineman on either side of the ball, let alone on their teams. Zeke didn't even start most of his career in hs.
  12. Most people forget he was a 1st team All State linebacker also. Everyone wanted him more for that than his 46.5 yd per punting avg. He only wanted to punt. Still a big boy.
  13. Hatz, your probably correct, but I'm not sure as to his record in high school, or as to how large a shadow he cast on the national scene, but he was definitely a legend in this Wildcat fans eyes. :thumb: Homer Rice did many, many things as a coach, teacher, AD, etc. that set him apart from most folks mentioned in this discussion. Lets face it, how many in this discussion would have had Mike Brown Sr. give them a head coaching job in the NFL. None!!!!!! Mike Brown was a legend also on all levels of the game and saw fit to give Homer the keys to what is now called the Jungle. There is not much higher praise than that in football, than having a living legend like him giving you the head coaching job of the team he started, coached, and owned himself!:ylsuper:
  14. Homer Rice. Highlands, UK, Bengals. Not just a football coach. A teacher, mentor, innovator and a legend across many levels of the game, and not just in Kentucky. Name another coach with his record of winning and amount of respect on a national level to come out of Kentucky. You CAN'T. Homer wins running away.
  15. Ah, yeah, but only according to the KHSAA, Not on the field or in district court! Hey, we can only fight them were they are willing to play us!:flame:
  16. Congrats to the Blue Colonels on a tremendous run to the championship. Great to see the Colonels bring it back home again to NKY. As a Bluebird fan I'm glad to see this group of Covcath Seniors go! Seriously though, great season. To all Covcath underclassment, please don't forget that weights and preseason conditioning does not begin until July 1st, so don't report until then! j/k......congrats again!
  17. Congrats to Mercer co. and great season. Welcome to 5a fellas! Let the party begin!
  18. What are Murrays height and weight anyway? Please be truthful if you know. In other words, not what might be in the Ryle program. They just might be fudging a little bit in there!
  19. How about a little combo by the names of Frisk and Lickert! :ylsuper:
  20. Geez, lighten up. I'm a huge Highlands supporter, and even I find the Covcath cheering section quite funny. I didn't know that separation between church and state had to apply to cheers at a football game. Sounds like sour grapes!
  21. Oh, I see what you mean now. That's also a little shocking to me, considering the weight program Duffy was known for. The Duffy's must have gone soft in their stay in Hendo!
  22. You obviously played for the man, as witnessed by that last sentence of your post! It comes from "Battle of Life". Duffy gave it to all his players.:thumb:
  23. Guru, I honestly don't know why everyone, or anyone for that matter is so surprised by the 37 man roster for Henderson last night. The Duffy coached teams have always had 35-40 players on the team. It been well known all around the state for years that this is their standard operating procedure. It been very successful throughout the years as seen in his wins column and by the # of Championship rings on his finger. I don't, however, believe it works well at the 4A level just because of the fatique factor when platooning against them. I remember my Junior year at HHS, Duffy probably had as much or more talent walking the halls as he did on the field. Duffy was not the type to walk around trying to rustle up a player in the halls. If you did not play ball, he was not going hunt you down and ask why. He just assumed you were probably not going to cut it if you were not out there because you wanted to be. You definitely had to want it to play for him. He was probably, no, he was the toughest coach in the state to play for, without a doubt in the state, and it isn't even close. I'll go ahead and make the assumption that Jr Duffy is a chip off the old block so to speak! He did what he was hired to do at HHS. I did not always like the #'s aspect of his coaching strategy, but it did work to win championships many times for him.
