Dawg fans have all run for cover .... everyone is asking what happened ??? ... Has the LCHS " old machine" come to an end in week 2 ... Or is ups and downs in high school football , just the " nature of the brute " .. Either way the dawgs and entire system will recover , hang in there .. What LCHS needs is a good old fashion Home Game where the entire county stands along the sidelines in Chuke's Flip Flops ... Septemberfest is coming ...

This game will be close , someone said it will come down to opportunites and what each side does with them. I couldn't agree more ... For Ashland , as a team they have faced adversity and bounced back .. very important in team building. Hopefully the win over Red Army is a turning point for Ashland's entire program for years to come. For the Devils , as a program they have achieved and seem positioned to stay on top ... This game is likely the only measuring stick the Devils will have until the playoffs and the kids know it ... This worries me to death about the Devils season ... Can only get fat eating cupcakes ... Although to early to predict ... Skill players ... even ... these kids all know each other ... no surprises.. Proven scheme - Russell .. much more hard nosed and steady Momentum - Ashland .. has teamed against adversity Lines - Russell on paper and limited action so far ... Opportunity for greatness ... Ashland Game could go either way ... that's what makes all this fun ...

Listened on radio for awhile , wasn't even a scrimmage for Devils .... Switched to Ashland and Belfry ... Sloppy but very entertaining even on the radio ... Looking forward to Devils and Tomcats .. this will be only measuring stick for Devils all the way to the playoffs ...

Who has the best and why ? Pregame , Post Game and during the week .. Does anyone have a weekly review program like Jim Snuffy Smith in the Portsmouth area ?

High school football is about the line of scrimmage. He who controls , wins. I like nothing better than a team who can line up drive people off the ball and finish all the way in the end zone. Passing in High School is for keeping people honest , DB's and LB's. If you can run the ball , generally you can defend the run. Nothing more exciting than three on three between the cones or dummies in practice ( only one way to run and no where to hide). Man on man football , this mindset transfers to friday nights at Belfry - Red Army , Ironton , Burg , LCHS , etc. Wing T although very effective relies on angles and tricking the linebackers. I loved it last year when Russell went to the Power I and pulled the tackles ..

Where on the scoreboard with this be posted and when ... also when will Ivan get his field ? Last question is this Ivan's last season ?? I think the old coach stays as long as the boosters feed after the games ... Looking forward to the season , should be lot's of defending state champ buzz , anticipation for a talented group of Devils and very experienced coaching staff ....

Surely the Devils aren't this intimidating that someone would like to travel this much to get around them and Mason. Who is minding the store at Fleming , are the lights on ? I would like to replace Lewis and West. Both are struggling , I assume they don't have strong feeders. I am hoping the Devils add Burg , Portsmouth and Ironton ..... or WVa schools in Huntington area ...

To be the man you have to beat the man .... Fleming had some good teams , we will miss you but somewhere along the line we will meet. Only problem we ever had with Fleming is the coach seemed to think they were always better than they were or " they gave it to Russell" , especially his comments as we rode home after our game at Fleming in 2004 ... Russell beats Fleming with Line play ..... Good luck this year and upcoming year in you district with Estill , I like the engineers and the band , but won't miss the ride back home from Estill...

This one aint even close... Ashland is too soft up the middle... if raceland can run the ball an Ashland then Belfry will run ashland right into the ground... the only way the Tomcats have a prayer to defeat the RED ARMY of belfry if Belfry helps them and turns the ball over or if they get a little home cookin!! But no in all seriousness Ashland will not be up to they challenge nor do they have the willpower to want to stop THE ARMY'S "BAD TO THE BONE WISHBONE" BELFRY-40 ASHLAND-10

Silly decision in a small football state. But will get rings and recognition for more kids and maybe that's what it's all about..

Good news for a good kid - Luke Bonner .... this news is way more important than Ashland and Belfry.... Hope he doesn't rush back to the field , if ever ... High School Football just isn't that important , rest of your life with two good knees is ...

Which O or D linemen ( by name or number) stood out in week one and why .... These kids don't get enough recognition .... :dancingpa the dance party is like the linemen , if the team succeeds they are happy no matter who's name gets in the paper ...

Football takes money, feeders and commitment. Smart starting at Middle school level and growing feeder. More than enough money at RH. Just a matter of commitment. It can be done , comes down to the will of the parents , coaches and admin at Rose Hill. If I was at Rose Hill , I would do everything but football at least for awhile longer.

No secret here , whoever controls the line of scrimmage wins. Red Army will want hand to hand - trench warfare. #20 LB/RB for Belfry was very good last year as a soph. If Ashland falls into this trap they are toast. Ashland has to pass effectively to beat the Pirates. Doesn't mean big plays , effective passing is enough to keep the backers , corners and safties honest. Ashland should be able to do this if they will roll the QB and dink and dunk. ( Brown to Horn ) But at some point , Ashland will have to man up and run it right at the Army. Fields (guts and glue) and 42 can do this. Others on Ashland have no chance based upon the Ironton and Raceland contests. If Ashland backs hesitate when contact comes the Pirates will smell blood in the water and Tomcats will be walking a short plank likely to 0-3 .... The Tomcats have the talent to win this one , and I want them to win .... It's very hard for me to think Ashland puts all this together in one week ( but they have the talent). Nothing but respect for the Red Army .... They are well coached and play physical football which for high school kids is all about mindset. Belfry has it , Ashland doesn't - at this point ... Still thinking , wonder how Bonner is ?

Coal Grove is very small by comparison to LCHS.. Likely a 1A school over here. Certainly no Ironton , Wheelersburg , Portsmouth or even Chesapeake. Dawgs should have no problem. I like Coal Grove's uniforms ... look like the Chicago Bears ...

Wow .... If Mercer finds in all those kids , ones that will play defense they will be tough. Last year's defense was soft- LB's and DB's wouldn't hit anyone in support of the run. Looking forward to this years match up... Defense wins championships , remember the Titans .... Good luck to Mercer .... what happened to the Scottie Dog ? I thought we saw one last year ...

The Backyard Brawl Trophy stays with the Devils.... the Red Devils rule Greenup County for yet another year.... Russell-35 Greenup-17

Devils .... If history repeats won't be by alot ,but will be convincing... If Greenup can defend the run , game could maybe go into the third , but Russell has to much. All phases of the game will favor the Devils ... Greenup needs to commit to stopping the run whatever that takes ... Greenup linebackers and a secondary that has to be able to tackle will be key ... Other wise Kasey will run wild like he did against OC ... On offense , Greenup needs to run it between the tackles, and mix in timely short passes , Devils have way to many athletes to pass long or run wide against ... Look for Kasey and Sizemore to be big run stoppers this year in addition to Wills , Jones , Beekman ...
