You have got to show up for the district final. Scott is a young team that can light up the scoreboard, apparently only when they want to. I don't have a dog in this fight but it's just very disappointing for the Eagles. As up and down as they are, they may shock the world when they face Mason County, Pendleton County or Paris. But they would be hard to bet on.

Ok, Mason County, enjoy that district champion trophy, enjoy your reign atop our district but don't get too comfortable, Augusta's coming back for it next year. Never let it be said that Augusta doesn't share!!! :lol2::lol2::lol2: BTW, the Royals were as advertised last night. They are the top team in this region and when they took flight in the 3rd quarter they looked very impressive. They will be a tough out in next week's regional tournament. I'm sure they'll have their eye on that Pendleton/Harrison game tonight since those two played them the closest of the teams in the field. Best of luck to both teams next week!!

I'd like to see Pendleton County win this one but Harrison County just might be the team they were supposed to be at just the right time. Either way, it should be a dogfight. Should be a packed house too because those that drive from Falmouth and Cynthiana should have no trouble driving to Mt. Olivet. Me on the other hand, I've driven from Augusta to Mt. Olivet and back enough times and got one more trip there on March 13th so I'm staying home and staying warm.

After falling to the Polar Bears 57-35 at home on the 13th the Panthers did exactly what they needed to do to win this game, get production from guys that didn't produce in the previous game. Nathan Shrader (14), David Tucker (13) and Jared Shoemaker (8) came up huge for Augusta in this one. In Jason Hinson's time at Augusta his teams have been known to bounce back when faced with adversity in big games. They will have their hands full on Thursday night with whomever emerges from the Mason County/St. Patrick game but don't dare count the 2 time defending 39th district champions out.

I played at Augusta when we lost 49 consecutive games. Kudos to Faith Heritage (IN) for being worse than we were. We made headlines when we broke the streak. It's amazing to me how far the program has come from the very bottom in the late 80s to now when the Panthers are regulars in the 10th region tournament.

I think Henry is the POY, no doubt. O'Hearn won last year with a 21-5 regular season and now they are 22-2 so it stands to reason he will be the COY. I think Hinson should get some votes because Augusta was supposed to drop off the face of the earth but were rolling right along and in the region discussion until the Snapp injury. I think Scott has been way too inconsistent this season to reward the coach. And Harrison County should have a much better record with or without Jenkins. They have too much talent to be the mediocre team that they are. And maybe in the end Hinson does win it because of they success Augusta has had. Mason County was supposed to be good, weren't they? So O'Hearn is doing what was expected.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm a 10th region guy and have no clue but it doesn't seem like it happens very often.

Of course Augusta's top rival is Bracken County. This is contested by many due to the incredibly lopsided record that is in Bracken County's favor. But currently Augusta has won 10 straight, their longest such stretch in the history of the rivalry. And when the two hook up the house is packed, every time. And as years have gone by the hatred is passed on to future generations to enjoy.

Did not see this coming and obviously neither did Holmes. There was word that the Bulldogs might look past the Royals with CovCath coming up next. Impressive win.

They, Mason County, look very strong right now but here's the catch, right now is not the postseason. They were as healthy as could be last year when they were ousted in the district tournament. Gotta go with Papa on this one, no guarantees.

I look forward to this every week. I have to give credit to RP for putting together all the info each week and most importantly, ranking the 10th region top ten. The most talked about and debated rankings on bgp every week. I love the parity in this region. We can go back and forth all we want talking about who will be there in the end but it will all come down to making it out of their districts. Nothing is a given. You've got to love 10th region basketball!!!!

I don't really know anything about Owen County except for what I've read about Carson Williams. And averages of 24 and 14 are quite impressive so stopping him should be a priority. As for Augusta, they are not the tallest or fastest but I'll put them up against anyone when it comes to heart. They are smart on both ends of the floor and find ways to win. They are not unbeatable but give them an opportunity to win and they'll be right there. I'm going to borrow from the UK schedule poster, heart over height. Panthers win.

At the end of the day the those polls don't mean much but as an Augusta fan it would have been nice to see the Panthers move up with a couple impressive victories. But the numbers don't lie. There are a couple bad losses. I only say a couple because the loss to Pendleton County wasn't a bad loss based on the opponent, but based on how the Panthers played. And they have also had some victories by small margins over lesser opponents. But with a 15-6 record they have been better more often than they've been bad. So you can hope for better rankings for the Panthers but don't worry about them, they'll just keep playing.

I've seen both play. When Mason County is at their best they look awfully good. But I think Holmes at their best is a bit better. Hopefully both go all out and we see a great game.

Just let someone try to tell the Panthers and their fans that this state tournament appearance is not legit. For years and years the Augusta Panthers were a doormat, playing multiple homecomings year after year. We even made history when I was in school by losing 49 straight games. We played for the love of the game but never really knew the meaning of march madness. The year 1982 was the one everyone always talked about, the last time the Panthers won a district title and advanced to the 10th region tournament. Then in 2006 the Panthers and Lady Panthers both advanced on the same night. The boys followed that up with trips in '07, '08, '11 and '12. As the years passed the gap between us and the top tier of the 10th region started to close and was nearly tightly locked in '12 as the Panthers fell to Mason County 72-71 in the district championship game. In '13 and '14 we won the district and this past year advanced to the region semifinals. So in other words, after years of more futility than success, we are now in the greatest stretch of success in our tiny school's existence. We will take whatever we can get. And to comment on the game, the free throw disparity seems to be the hot topic on this one. For those who weren't there or even those who were, Augusta shot 22 of their 30 free throws in the 4th quarter and overtime when Brossart was forced to foul. In fact, Augusta never hit a field goal in the overtime period, all free throws (11-14).

Augusta is not an overly aggressive team and they do not foul much. Brossart attempted a lot of shots from areas where not many fouls are called. I'm not saying they don't foul but they don't put themselves in position to do so. They played a steady game, kept their cool, and pulled this one out. Panthers win their 6th straight game and improve to 15-6 and will face the 16-2 Owen County Rebels in Frankfort on the 29th at 6:30pm. This will be Augusta's third trip to the finals. Lost to Brossart in '03 70-35 Lost to Brossart in '13 78-68 Here's hoping the 3rd time is the charm.

If Crawford's teammates are going to develop and come through in clutch situations they need to have their chances down the stretch. You make a very good point about one superstar can't beat a team performance. On the NC end it sounded like it was someone different every trip down while on BC's end it was all Crawford. He is a fine player but cannot do it alone. Kinda like Garrard for Paris last night against Augusta. He was completely wore out doing it all. If this is the future for BC then Crawford will score a ton of points but their record won't match up. There is talent there but standing by and watching isn't working.

I haven't seen the Mustangs play this season but judging by their scores it looks like maybe they are starting to get things together. At the same time Augusta has bounced back from their holiday slump having won their last 5 games. It takes a disciplined team with a lot of poise to beat Brossart. You expect strong in your face defense and steady, smart offense. I can see Augusta doing both. It should be a great game with the Panthers hoisting the bigger trophy and representing the 10th region in Frankfort on the 29th.

Yes! The rarest of the rare. I listened to the Polar Bear broadcast and was laying on the couch when it happened. I hadn't jumped up that fast since dinner was ready.

The Augusta Panthers (14-6) will battle the Bishop Brossart Mustangs (9-6) for the 10th region All A title at Robertson County tomorrow night. Brossart has pretty much dominated this tournament since joining the 10th region. After knocking off Paris last night, considered the favorite by many, Augusta seems primed to take their first All A title. Brossart doesn't give up anything easily so it should be a battle. What's everyone think?

Final from the Igloo. Polar Bears jump out early in this one and control the first half. That carries over to the 3rd quarter where they achieved their biggest lead of 19 points. The Bluejackets would cut into that lead through the 3rd and into the 4th. With less than :10 to go Cooper Engnes fouls Tyler Newton on his 3 point attempt. He hits the shot and the free throw to send the game to ot. Lead goes back and forth with Nicholas coming out on top. Crawford leads all scorers with 38 in a losing effort. Nicholas now 7-10, Bracken 6-13.
