This was quite the highly anticipated matchup, sounds like it lived up to the billing. Was it a packed house? -
10th Region Tournament Restructure
Quagmire replied to Mustang's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I struggle with the changes of playing at various sites. For example, last season Augusta finally returned to the 10th region tournament. They entered as the 39th District runner up. How deflating it would have been to play their game at Pendleton County (whom they faced last yr.)? There is no atmosphere better in this region than the Fieldhouse. And as far as what nights the games are played, you're going to get larger crowds for boys than girls. I believe it's been said many times already. It's not mean to say that, it's simply FACTS!!!!! Every year kids at schools across this region dream of making it to the Fieldhouse in March. Please don't let that dream die. -

I don't really know why it was called a double foul but IMO each saw something that made them make the decision to call what they did so they met in the middle I guess. Personally I think the official under the basket had a clearer view and should have overruled but that didn't happen.

Augusta dug themselves a huge hole in the first half trailing 38-20 at the break. But they showed tremendous heart and intensity in the 2nd half and took their first lead of the game with less than 2 minutes to go but couldn't hold on. Credit Augusta for the comeback but credit St. Patrick as well for holding the Panthers off. Saints' Chris Owens led all scorers with 27 points and Dustin Staggs led Augusta with 26. Staggs probably played the best game of his career. Augusta plays Betsy Layne at 4:45 tomorrow and St. Patrick plays the loser of tonight's Bracken County/Deming game at 6:30.

While we are on the subject of mascots is there anyone out there that has any answers as to where Bracken County got Polar Bears and Campbell County got Camels?? By the way, what is a Juggernaut??? -
Deming 67 Betsy Lane 59

I didn't see too many calls since I didn't see the whole game but at that point just about every foul is intentional but I don't think you punish a kid for going after the ball which he did. -
Deming 67 Betsy Lane 59

Only saw some 2nd half action and it was a close game. Travis Massey fouled out late for Deming. With the score 60-59 Deming and about 30+ seconds to go, an intentional foul was called on Betsy Layne (Bad call IMO), a technical followed and after the free throws and an additional basket the game was out of reach for the Bobcats. -

Give Augusta the rights to A-town because they actually have it on their jerseys. -
St.Patrick vrs. Bracken predictions
Quagmire replied to Saints09's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I have yet to see St. Patrick play yet, but I'll make a prediction anyway. I think the Polar Bears win this one in a very tight affair, 64-62. -
Bracken County 50 Augusta 47
Quagmire replied to Quagmire's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
As of now that's how it looks but it's only December so there is plenty of time to improve. As close as these teams are the rankings could change weekly. And it's just fans submitting their opinions as well. -
Big rivalry game was everything everyone thought it would be. Hamilton was big in the 1st quarter scoring 8 of his game high 20. Augusta fought hard and battled back but it wasn't to be. Great support for both teams, the atmosphere could not be beat. Can't wait til these two tip it up again. Saw a bunch of BGP faithful there tonight.

Bracken Co. @ Augusta Thoughts/Predictions
Quagmire replied to ATown Pride's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Attention all basketball fans!! Do yourself a favor and make your way to Augusta on Tuesday night for this game. There aren't many better places to see a game than in Augusta's tiny little gym when Bracken County is the opponent. I've heard a number of people talk about having to get there early to get a good seat. One side will be orange and black, blue and white on the other. This will never be the biggest rivalry in the state but it is a HUGE event for a lot of folks. And that gym is a special place when it's packed. As far as predictions for this game, it's a tough call. Both teams have been up and down but both should come to play for this one. I see BC getting into foul trouble and the bench not being able to keep up. Augusta gets back on track, 66-59. -
Montgomery Co 69 Augusta 43
Quagmire replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The Panthers are struggling on the offensive end big time. With Bracken County coming to town on Tuesday it's time to work out the kinks and get back on the winning track. Montgomery used 8 or 9 players tonight getting good balanced production. Jordan Stevens didn't even play tonight. They were led in scoring by Clark with 15, Groves led Augusta with 12. -
Anyone know when Jesse Hall is due to return?

Congrats to Augusta on a hard fought victory. Also congratulations go out to head coach Robin Kelsch who notched his 100th career victory tonight. Wins aren't always easy to come by at Augusta. That's quite an accomplishment for a man that eats, drinks, sleeps, eats some more, everything and anything Augusta Independent Schools. He's one to give the kids the credit but we all know it wouldn't be possible without him. Thanks Robin!!! -

I don't know Devilman, I don't know if anyone in Augusta would give him a ride to Mt. Olivet.

1. Mason County - Some will say they only lose Micah Turner but IMO they lose their heart and soul, they'll still be #1 in this district but the gap closes just a little bit. And no, I have not forgotten about Darius Miller, he's a very talented player. But a new leader will have to emerge. Miller, Middleton or Scott is going to have to lead this group. Even still a trip back to Rupp is not unlikely. 2. Augusta - Of the 3 remaining teams the Panthers have the most upside They lose 2 starters in Levi Gallagher and Joe Hargett but gain one back in Dustin Staggs (lost last year to torn ACL). And the emergence of sophomores Chris Mofford and Ty Krebs could be key. Starting seniors Jeremy Hardymon, Josh White and Matt Groves have one more shot at a winning season for the Panthers. The Panthers have a deep bench this year and coach Kelsch won't be afraid to use it. 3. St. Patrick - The Saints return Chris Owens and Nick Anderson but lose point guard Patrick Estill. Someone has to take over that position for them to have any success. If it's Owens or Anderson it could take away from their scoring and that could hurt the Saints in the long run. Don't underestimate the loss of Estill. He often sacrificed scoring to lead that team, they miss him already. 4. Bracken County - The Polar Bears lose the only shooters (Joel Linville, Brian Randolph) on a team that couldn't shoot. Jesse Hall returns at the point and he'll have Eli Cooper and Tyler Hamilton inside but it's going to take more than that. Looks like another long season in Brooksville. Heard recently that Hall and Tarter are not currently on the team. If this is so things get tougher for coach Fite. Best of luck to him.

You know the rankings of players and teams in the UK yearbook don't really mean anything. It's the opinions of 16 different sportswriters across the state. They are giving their opinion and only because they are in the position to do so. I may not agree with the rankings either but I'm not going to get all upset about it. Remember, we are talking about high school basketball here and equally covering every team is not going to happen. These writers have to base a lot of what they write on what they are able to see. I think the entire article on the 10th region is much better than last year's and if you remember you'll agree. So take it for what it is, one man's opinion and as the season goes along we'll see how right he is.

Projected Lineups For 9th and 10th
Quagmire replied to GoldenBoy23's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Be sure to not count out Augusta. They should be favored to make the finals out of that bracket. I rank the four teams in this order: 1. Augusta 2. St. Pat 3. Bracken Co. 4. Nicholas Co. And to stick with the thread I see Augusta starting the following: G Josh White - sr G Jeremy Hardymon - sr F Dustin Staggs - jr F Matt Groves - sr C Chris Mofford - so
