Who's Number 1 to start the Year?
Quagmire replied to bigblueinsanity's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Mason County isn't a bad choice for preseason #1 but I find it hard to put them out in front of everyone else. They didn't even make it out of the 10th region last year. -
Top 10 10th Region Players for '07/'08

What does it say about our region when no one has yet to list 10 players? Is the region down or is it just too early? -
The girls draw on Saturday. The boys draw Sunday at 2pm at the Fieldhouse.

Sounds like it could very well be a great game to attend. -
Quagmire will be in attendance tonight, especially after a good Panther win last night!!!!! It would be nice to see Bracken County shock the world!!

I heard a roar from the crowd and looked up and saw it happening. I said to someone, "Oh my God, we'd better win now!!!" Personally I don't think they should have done it but it happened and we won so we'll just continue on.

Nothing is a given in the postseason, HC fans should keep things in perspective you don't know your opponent or the outcome yet. Congrats on advancing. -
For the 2nd year in a row it was a very special night for the Augusta Panthers. It's hard to beat a team 4 times in one season and looking back I think the 3 previous losses became an advantage for Augusta because why would St. Patrick change anything? That opened the door for Augusta to have a good idea of just about everything the Saints were going to do. What an effort from Shawn White and Steven Cummins on Chris Owens. He shot 6-21 for the night and a lot of those shots were hard to come by. The Panthers had come close many times in the regular season (2-7 in games decided by 6 or less). What a night to bring it all together. And one more thing for you history buffs. This win tonight was the first EVER for an Augusta boys varsity team on the Fieldhouse floor. Great job guys, last year we pushed open the door this year we're knocking it down!!!

Final. Pretty sloppy game throughout, neither team looked sharp. Unfortunately for St. Patrick senior guard Robert Englert could have possibly suffered his 2nd concussion in 2 weeks. Early word is that he's finished for the year. Hate to hear that for a senior and more than that a good kid. Owens led all scorers with 19 points.

It seems to me that there is more of a feeling that what the coach is doing is wrong because the program isn't successful. It's much easier to question a sub .500 team as opposed to a 22-3 team. I can't completely understand where a parent is coming from since I do not have any children but it looks as though many of them just can't help but support their child. But at the same time remember that your child is part of a TEAM. Support your own and be proud of them but support the team and EVERYBODY WINS!!!

39th District Draw
Quagmire replied to jonathan.fraysure's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
That's a good point. Mason County is not going to ever want to seed because that means 6 games on their schedule they do not want. They have no desire to go to Augusta or St. Patrick to play. It's not going to help their state ranking to play any of the 3 teams twice. It's a shame it has to be like this but that's how it is. -
39th District Draw
Quagmire replied to jonathan.fraysure's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
You were a shooter... I was a maker!   Great line URIT, but seriously Augusta has had their hands full with the Saints each time they have played so it's going to take a strong team effort to pull off another district victory. Coach Kelsch will have the Panthers ready, it will be up to them to execute. -

Bracken Co. vs. Augusta 2-9-07
Quagmire replied to CountryBoy7's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Augusta played Covington Latin tonight and won 77-27. The score isn't the issue here. The point is that Augusta played a game where they were able to see offenses and defensive schemes work in the flow of the game. This could help them play with more confidence and the 3rd time could be the charm. The 39th district draw tomorrow morning could also be a factor in the game. I'm looking forward to an awesome atmosphere and another tight game. -
Best One-Liners you have heard Coaches say
Quagmire replied to U Reach I Teach's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Heard this good one. A coach was putting in a player that rarely ever played and thought he'd fire him up before he went in. So he says as he's running to check in, "Get out there and get rambunctious!!" The player runs onto the floor and then streaks back over to the bench and says, "What number is he?" -
Running as punishment; acceptable or abusive
Quagmire replied to fridaymorning's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Long gone are the days of coaches abusing their positions and hurting kids with their "discipline." When parents or fans start to question what goes on at practice things start going bad. Trust the coaches to do their job. You start putting limits on what goes on in practice and you end up with an angry coach and soft players. -
Josh White only had 1 point, Pride is accurate.

I've only been to the SC gym in the summer, never attended a regular season game. Very nice place, I'm sure there in G-town it makes them say "Oh what a feeling!" How great is it to hear a band at a high school game? I love it, just makes the atmosphere so much better!!!
