Maysville newspaper today calls Panthers a team of destiny. Do not know about that, but will tell you they will play few teams with less talent than they; but, will never play a team with greater heart. Give Hinson a rested Panther team and they can challenge teams #1-4 in the 10th.

How about Augusta's losses to 6-12 Iroquois, 8-11 Model, or 8-10 Pendleton County?

 

How about the small margin of victories against 6-11 St. Patrick (2 points), 8-11 Lloyd Memorial (6 points), or 6-13 Bracken County (3 points)?

 

How does a computer show respect exactly? This is a rating based upon numbers.

I put about as much stock in those as I do political polls. They mean nothing.

Correct. No intangibles in most of these. Usually based on W/L, maybe point spread, opponents SOS, home vs away.

 

They make for interesting results. I don't think Dave or the Litkenhous ratings ever claim they are predicting who will win head-to-head.

 

The beauty of the story for Augusta is they, like every team, control their own destiny.

Rating systems are based on data from results. As the season goes further along and more data is entered as more results come in, then you'll get a more accurate measurement.

 

That being said, Augusta's season wont be defined on what their Cantrall, Litkenhous, MexPreps, or True Rank number is.

All valid observations. As stated in other threads, the loss to both Iroquois and Model were both at the latter part of a 7 game in 10 day road stretch. When you only play 5, this brutal stretch sapped legs and heart. The Pendleton game was another road game that was very competitive and before Pendleton lost probably their most talented player for the season.

 

Key to Augusta is three's, free throws, limited turnovers and heart. Will struggle against size underneath and Owen Co.'s Williams could be too much of a force. Even saw this against St. Pat's Sticklin

 

The neat thing about this team is they give it their all when they step on the floor. 55 boys in entire highschool, with every player homegrown. Fundamentally sound, well coached; but, out-talented by almost every opponent. When they warm-up they look a little ragged; but when the whistle blows they answer the call.

I agree! They are a joke.

At the end of the day the those polls don't mean much but as an Augusta fan it would have been nice to see the Panthers move up with a couple impressive victories. But the numbers don't lie. There are a couple bad losses. I only say a couple because the loss to Pendleton County wasn't a bad loss based on the opponent, but based on how the Panthers played. And they have also had some victories by small margins over lesser opponents. But with a 15-6 record they have been better more often than they've been bad. So you can hope for better rankings for the Panthers but don't worry about them, they'll just keep playing.

Unless I misunderstood something at the All A final game Saturday night and not taking anything away from Coach Hinson or the Augusta team, I understood that Augusta's 3 top players were all transfers to the program and understood one was in 6th or 7th grade and two came in 8th grade. Again, not taking anything away from the win or the size of the school, but I don't consider that homegrown talent.
