Based purely on the cost, I can't metal bats being banned. Wooden bats break too easily and would cost the teams a ton of money in my opinion. Why don't we engineer a helmet for the pitcher to wear (I see this pretty often in slow pitch softball leagues) ? How long ago did catchers and hitters begin wearing helmets ? At some point, someone realized that catchers and hitters were at risk of being hit in the head with the ball at a speed high enough to hurt them. It's apparent that we may need to look into a helmet of some type to keep the pitcher safe...

Puzzled in a good or bad way, Duck ? I'll be honest, I don't know much about Coach Anderson. I see he led Lawrence County to a 21-7 record last season. Any idea why he wanted to leave Lawrence ? Did he have any ties to Boyd in the past ?

I actually don't have a problem with this though I don't think she will succeed. I hope she does but I just don't see it happening. I don't think the players will respect her and I don't think the players will relate with her like they would a male coach. This is much more acceptable to me than the women who are constantly shouting about how women can do anything men can do. It's simply not true. The physical differences in men and women make men more able to be successful in the sports world, specifically football being that it is one of, if not the most physical sport played. It upsets me that some people cannot except the fact that we divide sports by sex. They can't see the reasoning behind it. Why is it that when a woman plays above her level in golf, she is able to move up and play with the men ? Why do we not offer the less successful male golfers the chance to play with the women ? Imagine all that would be lost if we did away with male and female sports, if we made it open sex. How many young women would not have their educations paid for because they couldn't make a college basketball team. I suppose I got away from the topic of a female football coach with that rant. Again, I don't have a problem with a female being a head football coach. Coaching is much more mental than physical. I hope it works out for her.

Any word on how the search is going ? The only names I've heard are Cooksey and Hall. I'd be happy with those choices. I really just want a coach who has no ties to the Boyd County program and won't be influenced by parents and boosters.

I believe the Boyd County head coaching position is open. Any early word on who is being looked at ? I would personally love to see Pete Fraley get a shot at the job. He has done a wonderful job with the girls program. I doubt he would be interested though as he has a young daughter coming up. Other than that, I hope they go away from the home town hire and go with someone who has no ties to the program. Someone who won't be influenced by past relationships, someone who will put the best players available on the floor, someone who will let the kids play more than one sport and most importantly someone who is qualified to be a head coach.

Anyone have a score on the Boyd game ? Was it played before this game or is it being played now ?

I may be in the minority but I really hope UK reconsiders the Zollo offer. I had the chance to see him play once and he was a work horse. Not the most athletic, but he worked hard. Every team needs a guy like him.

I said in a thread earlier that the obvious choice of complaint for Boyd fans was going to be coaching. In my opinion it comes down to the talent Boyd has walking the halls these days, it's just not there right now. Phil Jackson with Coach K as an assistant couldn't coach this team to a better record than they are going to have this season... The only thing that could save the basketball team would be if we had Coach Cal out recruiting the ramey home. I have a younger brother who plays a sport for Boyd County. Kids are being heavily encouraged to only play one sport. There simply isn't the talent at Boyd to be able to pick and choose who plays what sport. The basketball team is terrible, the football team was average at best and I'm not sure what the baseball team looks like this year. There are some athletes at Boyd that could help the basketball team out the same way there are some that could have helped the football team out.

A lot of people are going to blame the situation at Boyd on the coaches. I don't really see it way. In my opinion it simply comes down to the talent walking the halls at Boyd. The talent just hasn't been there in recent years. Phil Jackson couldn't coach this years basketball team to a much better record than they had last year...

An end to a miserable season for Boyd. I turned off the radio when the QB got hurt. Boyd's freshman QB will be good when his time comes but asking a 14 year old kid to manage a varsity ball game is a bit too much for a typical kid to handle. Congrats to Knox on the win. Good luck next week.

Ashland by as many as they want... Boyd isn't as bad as their 2-7 record but Ashland is just on another level this season.

Boyd had a terrible spike in the flu a week or so ago. In all honesty, they probably should have canceled their games for the week.
