  1. Elliott did shoot the bonus 1 foul early, but missed and East got the rebound, so nothing came of it. I have maintained that East plays the best defense in the region and they showed it last night. They were also well prepared and made adjustments to handle the press. The guards were effective ball handlers with only 13 team turnovers, and they controlled the boards. This game should serve as a wake up call to Elliott's fans and players. The rest of the region will not roll over and play dead for them. However, Elliott played a good floor game with only 11 turnovers. Free throw shooting was horrible and almost cost them the game. Rebounding was also weak. Timmy Knipp played well offensively and blocked several shots, but he needs to assert himself as a rebounder. East played very physical with Ferguson and the Faulkners and they still put up good numbers. Those kids refuse to lose. Elliott missed Chris Knipp most of the second half, apparently due to an ankle injury. As for the officials...they were consistently bad on both ends and it took away from a great game. Brandon Baker is an excellent coach and had his team well prepared. He also must whine to the officials more than any coach in the Region.
  2. GRC should win by 20+. Rowan just does not have it again this year.
  3. East Carter has improved dramatically since the first game. Their defense is perhaps the best in the region. I look for an Elliott County win, but don't expect another 32 point win. Baker is a good coach and will make enough adjustments to make it closer. For one thing, I can't see them trying to run with Elliott as much as the last game and I look for Tyler jackson to play a bigger role on offense. I am sure Elliott County's players and coaches are not looking at this game as a blowout-sure win.
  4. Elliott had better be ready for this one. They laid a good beating on East in Grayson and East is playing much better now. They have become one of the best defensive teams around and in my opinion the #2 team in the region. West has been playing much better since the beating they took from East. The 62nd District has to be the toughest in the region this year.
  5. I looked forward to the poll every week. Come back Cubster!
  6. The Elliott County fans who have posted are not the ones saying they are unbeatable. Those boys realize upsets happen every day. When they were younger, they pulled off a few themselves.
  7. A very successful weekend for Elliott. I am not saying that because of the two wins, which were nice. I am saying that because Elliott has gotten away from too much one on one which I saw at Rowan County and mainly because Timmy Knipp seems to be growing into his role on this team. It has to be hard for a freshman to fit into this group that has played together for many years. However,a team chemistry is developing that he seems to be buying into more every game. The kid has size and a ton of talent. Once his head and heart get into it, he will grow into a great player. Elliott was a good big man away from going deeper into the State Tournament last year. Every player seems to have improved over the summer, and the development of Timmy Knipp can only make them stronger. Additionally, I have never seen players play with more heart and determination than Ferguson, the Faulkners and Chris Knipp. This is a fun team to watch!!
  8. Back to the game...the 3rd quarter was exactly what basketball is about. Solid defense forced a boatload of turnovers and fastbreak opportunities. Elliott County shor well in that quarter and rebounded well. I believe the scoring in the 3rd was something like 35-8. Great job!
  9. :thumb::thumb::thumb::ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper:
  10. Rowan County has no excuse to keep losing. They have wasted a ton of talent the past few years. I wonder how long they will accept losing at this large of a school before they do something with the coach.:sssh::sssh:
  11. I agree OY. I can't believe I just typed that! East Carter is still #2 in the region due to their defense.
  12. There was never a second game on the official schedule.
  13. Excluding Raceland, which has a pretty good team that plays very hard, that might be one of the weakest Districts in the state. Raceland will deserve it's trip to the regional Tournament. One of the other three will be very lucky indeed.
  14. Good sign for Rose Hill that the other players got involved offensively. This team still has shot to make a little noise. They have played a tough schedule that can only help down the road.
  15. What happened to Petit? Rowan should not be outrebounded when they have a kid they list at 6-9. He wasn't much of a factor on the boards against Elliott either. He seems to have basketball skills and is not clumsy at all, so it is hard to understand. Rowan has more talent than the record indicates. Perhaps another "great" coaching year by Daniel.
  16. If it's any consolation most teams will have trouble scoring against East this year. They play very good defense.
  17. WHAT? Barker starts and plays almost the entire game for West every game. He is clearly the player they look to and I would imagine he leads the team in scoring and rebounding. I do not understand this post at all.
  18. Let's not start blaming the officials. 12-22 at the line ought to get you beat.
  19. Good grief, T. Knipp's a growing freshman. He will be fine and probably will end his career as one of the best to come from our area. let him develop. Chris Knipp's improvement from last year has been a major key to this team. He has become an excellent defender and can score when he takes it to the basket.
  20. No argument here. They should be ranked higher. They have proven it on the floor. Just shows why all ranking systems that we have are flawed...but it does give us something to talk about.
  21. Elliott 92-51...and the bench plays some and people complain
  22. Souonds like a pretty good effort from Rose Hill. I watched LCA in the 5/3 Tournament and thought Rose Hill would be hard pressed to stay with them. Lets give Euton a break. The kid's a good player and will only get better. I am sure every coach in the region would love to have a player just like him.
  23. Very classy post. I think many of us old timers feel the same way.
