  1. Officials and coaches have a mutual respect for each other. Usually when the game is over, everything is fine. How many coaches actually believe they lost only because of the officiating. I would venture to say that there are twenty to thirty calls that "could go either way". These seem to be the ones that cause the most problems. In all my experience of calling games, (a few I might add) instinct takes over. You see the play develope, in a tenth of a second your brain tells you to blow your whistle. What makes a good official? Someone who calls the same each and every night out. Good officials see the play develope and without thinking make the call. To say people can not officiate if you know this person and do this this and that with them is crazy. A good official makes a call without thinking, and s right at an alarming clip believe it or not. Case in point. I got called to officiate a game around here on a short notice, they had an official that couldn't make it. The game got ugly QUICK, 36-4 mid way through the second. The coach of the winning team, who I work with asked me to just give them the ball on anything close. This was the hardest thing to do, you see the play happen, before you know it you have made the call. The other team in this game I coached the 7th 8th grade for two years. Relationships play a role so small that it should not be mentioned in how an official (esp in this case) calls a game.
  2. When was the last time that Lewis County has beat both Greenup and Russell in the same year.
  3. Ferguson hit the two free throws to put them over a hundred. Giving him forty on the night.
  4. But why is he in the game this late... Thats all i want to know. Was Lewis on a late run to make it a ballgame. Just seems odd that he is in the game this late without a side motive...
  5. Johnathan Ferguson has forty to lead the Elliott Lions past the Lewis Lions. Ferguson got his last two points with 15 or so seconds to go:eek:. Starters didn't get much rest. I think Coach Mays couldn't stand the fact that Lewis was only down nine at the half...... It will be interesting to see how Elliott fans spin this to Ferguson in the game so late.
  6. As would I, but just saying judgement calls going "by the book" are usually what leads to trouble. A ref has to have a constantance about him. When i coached, played, or refed. I always wanted this out of an offical. How would you feel about having referees in "crews". Kinda like football, three guys in a crew. Two older ones, one younger. This Crew would do the JV and Varsity games. The more you work with an official the better the game seems to be called.
  7. Not saying this should be a T, and i agree that could be touchy. But inciting a crowd reaction good or bad is something that can lead to trouble. If a coach turns around and incites his crowd to protest a call is this a show sportsmand ship or showing up the official. Basketball is played between the lines in the floor, not the people who paid to see what goes on. This show of emotion is something that really brings passion to the game. But if you act like you been there and done it before, these things would not be an issue. That was what I liked about Barry Sanders. But each team is let known of the sportsman ship card before the game. Just a thought
  8. Congrats to Elliott on the win. I was not there, nor do i know what happened, but each team and head coach is made aware of the no taunting before the game. They are specifically told to taunting or baiting in any form, This is your warning. I Technical foul will be given if we seen anything to this nature. This could be as little as tring to get your crowd to make some noise, holding your follow threw while running down the floor. Anything to bring attention to yourself could be considered taunting. If everything was just black and white, we wouldn't need any refs, judgement calls are made everygame, just part of the game.

  10. 50-44 LCA little under two to play. Jackson at the line for two.

  13. Did coach Fite play at Lewis? I know he coached the girls program there a couple two years. I thought he played at Tollesboro High School and Mason County? But he is from Lewis County. Jay really knows his basketball, and i wish him nothing but the best.
  14. I bet Clark don't miss the two shots at the end of regulation and the first overtime many times. Two shots about ten foot that both rimmed out.
