  1. We have all stated the reasons Mays does what he does. If it hurts people's feelings. So be it. those kids have worked their tails off to earn the right to play more than half of a game. the JV players get plenty of time in the JV games. Other teams that have not put in the time and work should not have to be made to feel better about themselves by letting the score be held down. If you want to be in the game, then work for it. Mays isn't thinking about anything but his own team, period. It should not be his problem to worry about the other teams players or fans getting their feelings hurt. My last post on this subject, period. It is really a pointless exercise.
  2. As usual, you hit the nail right on the head. He does it the same way all the time. When other teams blew his weaker teams out, he never said a word about someone running up the score. His theory is that those big minute players have earned those minutes and they are going to play those minutes. If you will recall those Mayo years, when many teams were ducking Rose Hill, Elliott County played them once or twice each season, getting pounded in some of those games and never did you hear anyone from the Elliott staff complain. He will do the way he has always done it until he retires, if he ever does. After some of those lean years he deserves to enjoy this team.
  3. Congratulations to Jonathan Ferguson. No one works harder or deserves it more. What a quality kid!
  4. You have got to be kidding. Elliott's pressure defense and shooting decided the margin. Over 60 % from the field and 22-24 from the line along with forcing 20+ turnovers will decide a lot of games. As for the subs, Mays has always played only 7-8 people his entire career, win or lose. He's done it for close to 30 years and I don't see that changing now just because he has a team that blows some teams out. He went to the 9th man last night in the first half which is unusual for him. It is also obvious that he is playing Ferguson and Timmy Knipp at the point late in these games to allow them to work on some different skills for college scouts. They deserve that opportunity. It is not done to embarrass anyone and most coaches realize that.
  5. West is much improved from the first meeting, but they MAY be running into a buzzsaw tonight.
  6. I don't think anyone associated with Elliott County's team is counting any chickens yet.
  7. I still think east is a solid #2 and they proved it in Sandy Hook. Rose Hill's schedule and success within the region puts them at #3 and West Carter is rapidly proving they may be a top 5 team.
  8. Congratulations to all. This may be the longest an Ashland-Rose Hill thread has ever stayed open!!!!
  9. No! 61 Ashland Tomcats, and don't think even many Elliott fans will dispute this. Lets wait and see what happens the next couple of years before this should even be discussed.
  10. Somebody send a memo to 16th Region officials. They don't know about this rule!:sssh::sssh::sssh:
  11. From reading the update posts you were not at this game, so I am not real sure about how you can attack my post.:madman:
  12. You are right. It's not a big deal, but it does get old!
  13. I have not read that this was an excuse. Just a comment on the game. East played a great game and almost pulled it off. Elliott won the game and no excuses are being made for the score. I am sure that the Elliott staff is happy to have survived this one and will address some of the shot selection problems that occurred at crucial times in the game. If any of my posts were interpreted as an excuse, then I apologize. That kid needs no excuses made for him here after he scored 22 against some of the best defense I have seen this year. He is a strong player and he does take a beating during games around the basket.
  14. Just another cheap shot from the beaten Tomcat radio man!
  15. I have seen every coach in the region. I stand by my earlier post. Hicks is a close second on whining, but the clear winner on all around fits!
  16. Agree outcome was not affected. Completely disagree on ferguson, and not on the 3-pointers. He gets killed when he goes to the basket.
  17. Have to agree. Surely three of the top 6 or 7 teams are in the 62nd, and Morgan is competitive in the region.
  18. Elliott's a great team and will set many school records this year. But you can't take anything for granted. This close call will help Elliott in the long run.
  19. Great win for Rowan. I am now eating a big plate of CROW!
  20. Great win for Rose Hill. The tough schedule will pay off in the end. What's up with the Ashland offense? I have never seen a Tomcat team have such a tough time scoring.
