CatsCatsCats Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Did not see a thread on this game, so i thought i would start one. Great 1,2, & 4 quarters from the Comets. Credit Coach Jeremy Webb, he had a nice game plan, and had the boys fired up, and I believe the radio said West shot 71% in the first half. West was pretty balanced in scoring, Barker 18, Logan 16, T. Rayburn 10 or 12 i believe, Lee had around 10. One huge plus was the play of Bo Thompson, who hit the boards like a madman. Great to see him play his best game of the year in such a huge game. For Morgan, they have a really nice team. I believe that Coach Perry has to be at least considered one of the tops in the region. Morgan plays good full court man to man defense, and can shoot the ball. They are capable of beating most of the teams in the region on a given night. The difference in the game was the rebounding(not sure on the stats, West controlled the boards in most stretches of the game it seemed), and West Carter played as well a game as they have played all year. West Carter had great chemistry tonight and were a T.E.A.M, and fed off of each others emotion. I will say this about Morgan, I feel they are the best team West Carter has beaten all year, and are underrated.
hoops_gal Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I'm glad to hear Barker had 18 points. I guess someone finally wised up and realized he needed to be in the game. If I'm guessing he probably led in rebounds also. If I were the coach the boy would never come out of the game unless he begged.

That must say a lot about the quality of the opponents that West has beaten this year then. Morgan has a solid team, dont get me wrong, but to classify that as a signature win does not prove much for the Comets

Barker starts and plays almost the entire game for West every game. He is clearly the player they look to and I would imagine he leads the team in scoring and rebounding. I do not understand this post at all.
Nets Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 West Carter had a lot of energy and did play very well as a team. Although Morgan is now 4-7, I do feel they are much better than record indicates. Morgan Co. actually had 13 straight defensive stops in the 3rd quarter last night and only yielded 4 points. That was big.... West Carter's bank shot 3 by Logan at end of 1st started a big run. Lucky shot was about like one of his lucky 20 foot putts on the golf course. Cougars seem to gain momentum but then a charge call on Brandon Ferguson changed mo around and West went on another run. Should have been an AND1 but so be it. Chris Barker is the most underrated "athlete" in the 16th region. His hands are exceptional....big, strong, and and when he catches it can score with back to basket. He is also an outstanding Center in football. Overall, West Carter has Morgan's number 3 victories out of 4 trips to WBGL. At one time Morgan county had one of the best home court records in all of Kentucky over a 5 year stretch...the Comets broke the armor a few years back and have seemed to be on their "A" game vs. the Cougars ever since. Cougars will continue to improve and with traditional arch-rival Rowan County coming to WBGL on Thursday night, I look for the Cougars A game and continued improvement. This team is better than they atually believe they are....
Cubster Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Why not deny or double Barker like East Carter did?
hoops_gal Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 WHAT? Barker starts and plays almost the entire game for West every game. He is clearly the player they look to and I would imagine he leads the team in scoring and rebounding. I do not understand this post at all. While I haven't seen every game, I have seen several and in the ones I've seen he is averaging about 20 minutes per game. I talked to some of the players at a holiday tourney and they seemed puzzled as to why barker wasn't playing 28 minutes per night.
sidelinecoach Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Didn't expect double digit win by WC especially if the game was at Morgan. Congrats to the Comets on a good win.

And as a matter of fact, he does not lead the team in rebounding, at least not average.
CatsCatsCats Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 As for Morgan as a signature win, they aren't a top team in this region, but I do know they are underrated. THis has to do alot with record, they are much better than 4-7, where they play, about as far from Ashland as possible in the region, and they play in a district with Elliott and East. As for a double digit win at Morgan, I didn't expect it either, but it was as well as West has played, they looked totally different than the East game. They would have given East a good game last night as well as every other team in the region, excluding the team from Sandy Hook. Not saying they will keep it up, they shot unbelievable from the field, but an effort like that every night would have them in the top handful of the region. Still a lot of work to do before the tournaments, but if Coach Jeremy Webb just keeps doing what ever he did in practice after the East game, and during before the game last night, West will be a pretty decent team by late next month. Also, Morgan COunty is a well coached, hard nosed team that deserves success, i wish them the best the rest of the season, except for when they play West again of course. Barker's minutes sometimes have to do with foul trouble, and Webb has tried to deepthen their bench early. I think he's found his 8 or 9 man rotation, so Barker plays most of the game now, except for when Webb steals him a few minutes. Nets, you forgot to mention his jumping ability. He would have to have one of the highest vertical leaps in the region. I would think Thompson or Puckett would lead the team in rebounds, Logan is a good rebounding guard as well.
