  1. Thats ridiculous how could they not let the public speak about this issue at the board meeting. Sounds to me like someone wanted the coach out of there cause they knew he had more power than they did.
  2. I agree, I wouldve put Blume on there before Matt Maynard. Before all you Belfry fans hyperventilate let me explain, Matt is a great back and a great athlete and seems like a good kid. Even you pondcreekers should see that the leading rusher in the state should be on the all-star team.
  3. Love and prayers for the players and their families.
  4. Not any Ive heard about. UVa-wise has stolen alot of players away from them out of this area this year.
  5. Virgie was in the playoffs their last year of existence in 1989. The next year they made the playoffs with basically the same team as SV. I think theve squeaked in the playoffs as 4 seed 3-4 times and had maybe 10 coaches since then. There has been no stability in that program do to politics since its inception so yes the program has suffered and alot of kids have transferred schools because they are just tired of the constant drama.
  6. IMO 8th graders are the ones who need it most. I believe thats why alot of freshmen get hurt is because theyre not used to the speed of the high school game, this would help them adjust better.
  7. I agree coach the incoming freshmen are the ones that need spring practice the most IMO. Gets them adjusted to the speed of the high school game compared to jr high. Some of them told me it was torture not to be able to get the pads on when everyone else was. Guess theyll learn the true meaning of torture come july when practice starts.
  8. Well its buisness as usual up here. Pikeville looked good in spring practice. Havent heard anything about Belfry but I dont imagine theyve fell off much if any. Pike Central looks like a distant 3rd. SV is a wild card with the new coach. Phelps has some real athletes returning. ER is still a year or 2 away.
  9. Dorton never had a team and Virgie did OK but not great.
  10. But its MAY, this should have happened over the winter not 2 months before summer practice starts.
  11. Daniel Harmon from Pikeville is another sophmore back everyone is going to hear alot more about in the near future.
  12. Vicars is the real deal I watched him when NCC played us down here last year.
  13. some of these schools theyve thrown together down here were bigger rivals than the hatfields and mccoys.LOL!
  14. For the 3rd time yes the schools are better off because of the better facilities. Yes Valley and ER have won region championships but, there still constant drama and infighting and when a coach wins hes still in danger of losing his job if the political climate shifts or the wrong parents are watching theyre kids set the bench. You can say what you want but Ive seen the "political" thing happen for myself at the county schools. Im from Pikeville were independent from the county so I dont have a dog in the hunt Im just telling the truth about what happens down here.
  15. I was trying to be nice and not name any names but if you insist, The school Im using as an example is Shelby Valley. Yes I know Valley has done good in B-ball. But its football team is a joke because of the reasons I named off and politics play a huge role in the mess that the powers that be up there have let it become. Other schools like east ridge and pike central from what I hear suffer from the same thing and I know people who teach at each place and they tell me about the problems they have and its not just in athletics either.
  16. Its time squirt or get off the pot, either hire a coach who is reputable and is comitted to staying around and wants to do whatever it takes to make this program successful or pull the plug on it and save these poor kids the embarasment. The choice is yours Maggofin County. This is what stinks. There are still schools in this state who want to have a football team but cant. Here is a school that has a football team but apparently just dont want it. Its both sad and tragic.
  17. Daniel Harmon-RB Pikeville Was just a freshman last year but was an instant impact on offense. If this kid stays healthy and keeps his head screwed on straight he will rewrite the record books at Pikeville.
  18. Most folks in ohio have that attitude about KY in general, not just football. I know I lived in that GOD for saken state for 7 years, glad to be "south of the river" again.
  19. Im not sure, but if you called the paper and told them what your trying to do they might help.
  20. Congrats Josh stick with it! UVA wise has really pounced on this area while Pikeville College twiddled its thumbs trying to find a new coach.
  21. Hey the grownups just play politics when making a decision like this. I say let the kids try it once. Instead of hiring some dope just because hes a board members cousin. The kids will hire some guy just because he can burp "sweet home alabama" or is the all time champion of resident evil 2. Which is worse? Some BOEs in this state are better off run by 15 year olds than by the 3 year olds who are running them now(cough cough magoffin cough cough)LOL!!!!!!!
  22. Have you tried the News-Express?
  23. OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH That is COLD!!!! I wouldnt slam a toilet seat that hard LOL!!!!
  24. Like I said. The Important thing is that the school facilities are better than what the kids have. But,as far as sports go, all I know is what Ive seen. There have been about 5 consolidated schools have came about around here in the last 15 years and theve all run into the same problems. If others scools have made it work then I will be the first to applaud them. But alot of the problems I wrote about that pop up in my neck of the woods stem from these small, tight knit coal mining communities feeling like they lost part of theyre identity when there school is gone. And I guess I cant blame them. It would KILL me if Pikeville consolidated with anyone. But I wont ever have to worry about that I believe. Were an Idependent school district and everyone in the county hates us.LOL!!!
  25. Not nessecarily, over here in the eastern part of the state as everyone knows weve had quite a few schools consolidate. Although the classrooms and the facilities are far better than where these kids originally went to school, and lets face it thats the most important thing. The Sports teams have kind of suffered over here due to politics. Heres an example say school A and school B consolidated and made school C. Schools A and B were bitter rivals in all sports before they consolidated. School C know has to hire a football coach, the old coach at school A looks like a right fit but the coach at school B is threatning to call in some favors and get some board members fired if they dont hire him. Meanwhile The parents and students of both scools A and B are supposed to put behind them years of fighting, both on the field and off, and play together as a team and the parents who fought these battles are supposed to join hands with the ones they played against in those heated contests and band together to form a booster club. Right about here is when human nature kicks into overdrive. The kids are talented and the teams are good at school C but the parents and board members from both schools A&B are fighting amogst themselves over which old school will have control over the new one. If there is more kids from School A playing than from school B or vice verca then the other side is complaining about favoritism and will not support the team. While all this is going on the kids see all this fighting and just say "Heck with it". Ive never seen this fail to happen when a school consolidates and the sports suffer because of it.
