Pikeville vs. Henry Clay
Those were the 87 and 88 undfeated state title teams that were arguably 2 of the best 1a teams of all time in this state. Well have a very good team this year but were not in that ballpark...........yet! Ill be at the game cheering my lungs out for my beloved Panthers but in the end I believe HC depth will be too much for them. But this is one time I hope Im wrong.

KHSAA Board of Control Football Committee Approves Going to 6 Classes (Take #2)
Here is the problem, I would love for Pikeville to compete in 2a because it looks so competitive but the only school I see remotely close to us in 2a is Betsy Layne and I think there still not competing in district play. After that the closest schools to us in 2a are Middlesboro,Corbin, and Somerset. Although that would be one of the best districts in the entire state all classes with or with out Pikeville in it. It would be a logistical nightmare and be tough on the school system to have to go that far(everyone get out your state maps) at least twice a year and possibly twice more in the playoffs. Pikeville is only about 15 boys away from being 1a so with graduation and transfers we may just squeak in to 1a by next year.

KHSAA Board of Control Football Committee Approves Going to 6 Classes
If this goes by male enrollment only then Pikeville will be 1a not 2a.

Belfry vs. Newport Central Catholic
Being from Pikeville Im no Pirate lover by any means but I can promise the NCC fans that they will not find a team more fundamentally sound than Belfry and those types of teams are hard to beat.

Pikeville?
Weve got a talented freshmen class coming up with a couple of good RBs and some lineman with alot of potential.

Pikeville vs. Henry Clay
I agree the PCB really hasnt been the same since they let all the county schools participate. Ive said it before, the original idea behind the PCB was to have the best 2 teams in Pike county play the two good teams out in the state.

Class A Region 4
We both forgot about Eric Shockey.
-
Betsy Layne situation
The head coach is Bobby Branham he coached at Pikeville under Bill Allara and then Hillard Howard in the mid to late 90s.

Class 2A, Region 4 Poll
I agree with all these except SV I believe Pike Central will take the #4 spot.

Pike County Bowl
Belfry is about 30-35 min from Pikeville acroos some winding 2 lane roads, it nowhere near as bad as it used to be though.

Pike County Bowl
Not to mention the 98 degree heat before the storm hit.

Can the very talented Michael Vicars (NCC) hit 1,700 yards in 2006?
I say he will simply because the good QB has graduated and he will have to do the heavy lifting on offense until the new QB finds his bearings.

Pike County Bowl
I was right out in it. There was about 4 of us huddled under an umberella and we still got drenched.

Pike County Bowl
Pikevilles crowd wasnt that big because of the monsoon that blowed in right before the game started.

Pike County Bowl
I must admit Im a purist when it comes to the the PCB. No offense to anyone but I dont think the other county schools should be involved besides Belfry. Ive think we should go back to the traditional 4 teams 2 games on saturday. Now that Belfry has theyre nice stadium the game could be alternated each year. The basic idea for the PCB when it started was the 2 best teams in Pike County playing 2 good teams from out in the state. IMO the bowl has lost some of its luster because the exclusivity factor has been breached. Its not like the other schools wont be profiting from this if they dont play in it. Proceeds have always gone to the county schools football programs. In all honesty the coaches at ER,PC,SV probably would rather not play in a district game and 2 of these teams will every year. I just think its time to go back to the basic premise of why the PCB was created and chock this experiment up to a bad learning experience.
