Even as a Highlands fan, we have no reasonable explaination to be ranked above Bowling Green, at this point or even towards the end of the season. Bowling Green has been pretty strong all along and has a much better record.

Though Seth sounds pretty good, the birds' weekness is more of their passing defense than their running defense (of course Anderson and Beaumont are exceptions). I don't know if I agree with you that seth will rush for more than 50 or 60 yards unless he gets more than 30 or so touches.

When Highlands played Male in 2002 with Michael Bush, there was a cutback block on a punt on Nick Scott by one of the Male guys. The hit was so vicious that his helmet flew up in the air about 6 or so feet. When we looked at the helmet, the chin strap was still buckled... Nick had a nasty concussion and had to get a few stitches on the inside of his upper lip from when it was torn by the chinstrap catching on it. :eek:

I agree, it seems as though South Oldham is getting tougher than most people realize. Covington Catholic's offense has struggled to produce like their defense has this season. I know their runningback has been injured, which may be the cause. The only way South Oldham can win this game is by playing better defense than Cov. Cath. This should be a low scoring game, IMO, unless Cov. Cath. comes out with something more productive on offense than I have seen already this season.

I would bump Cov. Cath. up above Lex. Cath. and JC, in my oppinion due to their tough schedule along with some closely played games to big teams.

Sadly, yes... They are in our district... Anyway, this game will be ugly, as always. But Grant Co. seems to be slowly, but surely, improving from year to year. Hopefully Highlands gets the mercy rule if the game gets out of hand. HHS- 52 Grant- 7

Wow, those don't look too good. There is no way Lex. Cath. should be ranked that high and why Franklin Co. should be that low. Also, Central should be on there somewhere, after all they do have a pretty good record. But this is the lowest I have seen Highlands on any ratings and it doesn't really seem too justified when you think about strength of schedule and how close the scores were in those games.

In 3A, Lex. Cath. is too high, Cov. Cath. is too low, and Franklin Co. seems pretty low too.

Cov. Cath. at the top of 3A just doesn't make any sense to me. Atleast put Bowling Green up there. I can kind of see why Highlands isn't up there with a 3-3 record. But I just don't see very much rhyme or reason to that.

I don't remember his name, but the guy who did the Highlands/Boyle Co. state game in 2004 LOVED the Smith's and Boyle. I can't tell you how many times he said how godly Brandon Smith was and how he was just having a bad game. It seemed like no matter how good Highlands did, it wasn't because they were the better team. It was because Boyle made a mistake...

As I said, Ammons is probably one of the best, if not the best quarterback in the state. He has some great stats as you have posted. I will admit, I have not seen him play defense, unless he did last year and I didn't notice. But as far as I am concerned, he is very skilled and should be in the top 5 for Mr. Football, but it would just be a stretch to say he will win it. I base this simply on the publicity of the other players (Anderson, Beaumont) and the strength of the program, itself. I would love to see him or Kramer win it, but I would just be kidding myself if I were actually expecting that.

Freshman and sophmore year, these stats didn't mean much because as a team, they didn't get anywhere. Last year, they were a legitimate team, but this year is the year that it really matters. If you are talking about the career, you are right, but I am really talking about numbers vs. strength of opponent this season. Clay Cecil for Highlands (Jr.) has 337 yards and 4 TD's rushing & 548 yds and 5 Passing TD's this season. Ryan Phillippi of Henry Clay has passed for 15 TD's and averages 200 yds a game in 5 games. Jordan Kramer of Highlands (Sr.) has 957 yds and 12 TD's (3 of those games he sat out after half), 221 yards recieving with 2 TD's, 158 kickoff return yards on 3 attemps (including a 95 yrd TD). Seth Gordon of South Oldham has rushed for 852 yards and 12 TD's in 5 games. I really have no idea about this one, I was just curious how many pics he had this season. .......................................... As I looked at the KHSAA website with all of the stats throughout the state, I saw Beaumont, Anderson, Kramer, and many others, but I didn't see Ammons under any of the categories.

I have seen Ammons play. He has been the key player on their team since Freshman year (when I played against him). He is an excellent quarterback, who is one of the best in KY, if not the best. But like I have already said, there are a lot of athletes who could score plenty of touchdowns against weaker teams such as Anderson County. So this probably won't help his publicity too much until he scores 5 TD's against a strong team. I would put him at #4 on the list behind Beaumont, Anderson, and Kramer, but that's just my opinion.

I disagree that this is a very big statement. After all, Anderson County isn't exactly a top class football program. 5 TD's is good in any game, but against who?

This was one of the best games I have seen in a while. Both teams played very tough and seemed to find ways to keep the game suspenseful. There were way too many opportunities for Highlands to win this game, as well as a few controversial calls by the Highlands offensive coordinator. 1. Highlands should have kicked at least 2 field goals within the 30 yard-line that would have put them ahead. 2. As much as it hurts me to say this, Highlands cannot use Jordan Kramer in goal-line situations. He is the man when they are in the open field. But there are plenty of more options to use at running back (Conners, Koester, Ball, Hurtt, etc.) when they need to get away from their own goal-line (which led to a safety tonight) and also when they need to slam the ball into the end zone on 3rd and goal from the 2 yard-line. 3. Don't run a sweep on 4th and 2 to Jordan out of a single back/two TE set within the red zone. That is just way too predictable. 4. Have to do something with the punt return guys. If nothing can be done about the fumbling, just rush everyone and have a couple of safeties to protect from the fake. HHS would be better off not putting anyone back to return the punts if they are going to give up the ball at least once a game that way. On a more positive note, I was impressed in the first quarter how well Highlands' defense played. They gave up a couple of runs against a pretty darn good running back (#25?), but never really gave up a big play until the 3rd and 4th quarters. #18 and #7 for DeSales were absolute monsters, they both had to be over 6'4" and fast. Conners looked strong for Highlands, it's good to have him back in a big game like this one was. Good luck to DeSales throughout the rest of their season and thanks for the experience. We may have lost, but we gained a lot knowledge from this game.

Sadly, it usually does depend on which school you attend. And also, it is usually a player on the team that either wins the state championship, or does really well throughout the season and playoffs.

Highlands vs. Covington Catholic has been a huge rivalry throughout the past 10 or so years. It's a close game almost every time where both teams play at the top level of their potential. I CAN'T WAIT for the game this season. Both teams are pretty stacked.

If it were last year, I would say that would definately helped his cause immensely. But thinking about Lex. Cath. this season, they aren't the powerhouse that they were, to say the least. I would disagree with that... I have seen all three, as you probably have too, and I cannot say that there is a difference in speed between the three guys in any aspect really. Sure, there is a power factor. That can be expected from a guy who is 5'6" 150 lbs. But breakaway speed, I beg to differ.
