I won't go into the year, but my junior year we played Woodford County for their homecoming. Taking on the lead blocker I broke three chinstraps when forearms slid up my chest and under my facemask snapping them in half.In the second quarter I broke my helmet almost in half from a helmet to helmet tackle. That was back in the old days when you could throw flying body blocks, and crackback all over the feild. Back when men were men. huhu. Final Frankfort High 24 Woodford County 20. Great Game. Maybe that's what's wrong with me today.

There are a few that come to mind but I would have to say that the game between Raceland and Paris in the fall of 75' would come to mind as one of them. Raceland won in an OT at Raceland to break a string of Paris dominance in our part of the state and at that time stae wide really. Another that would come to mind would be any one of the Raceland/Lawrence Co. wars in the 80's and early 90's. Lawrence and Raceland were both known for their hitting and neither dissapointed, there were some whirlpools running o.t. after those battles I am sure.

Trinity v. St. X 1997 State Finals is up there on my list.

The hardest hit I ever took in a game was from Fairview's Tim Mullins. The bad part was that he was a good friend of mine. I would have hated to be his enemy.:lol: Thanks Mo!! for the memory (loss!!!):confused:

Without naming names, wasn't a player from Raceland paralyzed in a football games, as a result of a hit, in the late 70's or early 80's?

When Highlands played Male in 2002 with Michael Bush, there was a cutback block on a punt on Nick Scott by one of the Male guys. The hit was so vicious that his helmet flew up in the air about 6 or so feet. When we looked at the helmet, the chin strap was still buckled... Nick had a nasty concussion and had to get a few stitches on the inside of his upper lip from when it was torn by the chinstrap catching on it. :eek:

Cville one of the hardest hit that I ever have saw was a hit by a Lawrence county on Chris Barker from Raceland. The game was at Lawrence Co. and it was Barker's senior year. Not sure on the year. Anyway, I was a close friend with all of his family - I went to the Hospital ER there in Louisa to check on him (severe concussion) and he looked up and ask me "what hit him" and if I had gotten a licsense plate #.:lol: We all laughed, I looked at the Doctor there in the ER and told him that Chris would be o.k.......that he got hit in the head and couldn't do any damage:lol: I can say that about him bc he is a friend.

He wore a halo & a body cast for a long period of time but by the Grace of God had a full recovery. He was a three sport star (great baseball player) and I think the injury cost him the chance to play at the college level. He now resides in Colorado & is doing very well.

:thumb: You are correct cville, that player was a 3 sport stand out and really had a future in baseball and football if he would had chosen to. Not only in college but imo he could have have played/pitched in the MLB. I remember the game vividly, It was a pre season scrimmage vs. Russell and I was standing behind the fence/track at Russell and it happened directly in front of me. He was getting up after a play was over and a cheap shot came in about 5min. late :irked: . I don't think that Coach Heck ever really completely got over it, said it was in a scrimmage that he didn't have to play. I didn't mean to dredge up anything here but everytime I think of that I get sick about it. I will drop the part about the hit and not name names on here.
