  1. I would guess that he'd be out early in the 3rd. In the game the other night, he went out early in the 4th with 25. I think he had about 20 at half. Anyway, this is a team game. I shouldn't be talking individual point stats. I'm much more of an assists and rebounds guy. Here, I'll say something that is sure to get some attention, Zack Hurtt will have 4 fouls by the end of the third quarter. :thumb:
  2. If Highlands beats NCC by 20, I think they can beat Newport by 30. My guess is 70-40, with McGraw having 32 points. He sure is fun to watch.
  3. What a game. NCC kept it close in the first half, but Highlands pulled away in the 2nd. McGraw had a heck of a game, as well as Simpson. I remember looking up when the score was 16-12 and thinking, McGraw has all of HHS's 16 points right now. Anyway, there was some sick passing in this game, Highlands seemed to wear NCC down. I have to say that I was suprised by NCC, they played some tough ball in that first half.
  4. I might be a little bias, but here's my picks in order: Highlands 2000 Boyle 2001 Highlands 2004 Highlands 2007 Boyle 2002 Boyle 2003 Lex. Cath 2005 Cov. Cath 2006
  5. Be serious, Ryle's defense does not compare to Holmes'. The atmosphere for this game seemed to really get to the birds, IMO. They came out flat and it didn't seem like anybody wanted to be there. Also, this game was played on the day of the Sweethearts dance, so not only could this have been on their minds, but also, there was NO STUDENT SECTION at all. It was a very boring game that seemed to turn into a overhyped JV game. Also, Greg could have been taken out due to a stiff back, but it seemed to me that he almost took himself out in the second half. He wasn't hitting any of his normal shots (which could be a result of his back), but he might have just been having on off day. He didn't seem as enthused as usual. I'm not saying he wasn't hurt, whatsoever, but he might have had an off day.
  6. That's a good question. With him back in the lineup, they will be rotating their big men more often. They will have the three guards (McGraw, Kowolonek, and Simpson) and they can shuffle the forwards around (Watson, Eaton, Hurtt, Grote, etc). You also have to consider that Stein will be back too, giving them more to think about. My guess is, Hurtt won't start, but he'll be the first man off the bench. We'll let the coach decide that one though.
  7. To me, the Birds are very dangerous in this game. They knew Holmes would be the 'best' in the 9th before the season even started. They have been looking forward to this game all season. This game is athleticism (Holmes) vs. fundamentals (Highlands). Holmes has a very skilled team who can score all over you, and Highlands plays solid offense and defense with a few average players. This is always a great game, and should continue to be one this season. If McGraw plays (which I highly assume he will) this game will be a pretty close one. Even though I don't think the birds will pull this one out, they should keep it within 10 (which is more than a bunch of other teams can say so far).
  8. Yeah, that definately has something to do with it. Cov. Cath. was ranked 4th in NKY this morning when I looked at the paper. I don't understand how that can carry over and allow them to have a top 25 spot.
  9. I might be too young to comment on this one, but I felt that James Hubbard and Matt Gramsted should be mentioned for Highlands. Both may not have been too great as underclassmen, but their senior years, they were a force to be reckoned with.
  10. Nah, Lofton was an excellent basketball player, but a little above average football player.
  11. This is what I mean by being a big fish in a little pond. You say tough schedule, I say very lopsided schedule. Here is HC's schedule so far. Other than Boone County, Holy Cross has not beaten a team in the NKY top 5 rankings or lost by less than 10 to any decent team not in NKY. From the scores, Holy Cross either blows out the other team or they get beaten in double digits (with the exception of Harrison). HC has won 6 games by 10+ points while only winning 2 by less than 10, lost 5 games by 10+ points while only losing 2 by less than 10. If he is supposively "The Team" at HC, then why isn't 'the team' winning (or getting anywhere close) in more games against good teams? I am not trying to say that this kid is unworthy of a top 4 mention, I previously said I think he could be as high as #3. I am trying to say that he may be a stud putting points up at Holy Cross, but Holy Cross is the little pond, in my oppinion. They pound the other small schools, but badly struggle with the bigger (higher ranking) ones. 12. Personally, I couldn't agree more with the top 3. To me, it sounds like this Sorrell kid is "a big fish in a little pond", but I am basing that completely on what people have said on here. I continue to be extremely impressed with Henderson and McGraw. I have yet to see either of these players have a bad game because they are just too consistently dominant. Simpson is a great player, but he seems to force shots and panic occasionally. I also wanted to remind everyone that McGraw only plays EVERY OTHER GAME due to the poor condition of his back. Just think if he played all of the games... That would be an even greater sight to see. As far as Sorrell, from the stats that have been posted on here, I have to put him at #4 or possibly even #3. Finally, I wanted to point out something that didn't make too much sense to me. I don't understand how you can say Sorrell is a better player than Henderson, if he was held to 6 points against him. That just doesn't add up too well.
  13. From what I heard, Greg probably could've played. He had played a few back to back games and was quite sore (he has been doing a lot of icing). But honestly, why push him when this game is just an exhibition one? It doesn't count for anything other than a bit of experience and a point in the win column. It doesn't determine whether Highlands makes the playoffs or anything like that. As far as I'm concerned, they made a good decision to sit and rest him for a game. As far as Simpson, he went up for a layup and got smacked pretty hard on his hand from what I saw. He came away fast and went straight out of the game. The trainer took a look at it for a second and he left the floor with his mother trailing close behind. It is never good to see that. I did also hear that he broke a bone in his hand though. Hopefully this doesn't end his career at Highlands. But I want to bring up something that I thought was quite amazing. The way Highlands played, having no real stars on the court, was simply miraculous. We played some serious, fundamentally sound basketball in the 2nd half and I kept asking myself how we managed to stay in the game. I was very proud to be a "bird" at that point. Even if the final score didn't come out as we would have preferred it, I was very impressed by our heart and determination. Also, how about that little Lother kid? He was all over #3 for HC. I honestly think they made a mistake by taking him out. He may be young, but that boy can play. I think I've said enough! :thumb:
  14. Belfry may truly be a better team but LC has some talent. Let them hang around or put a couple of balls on the carpet and some strange things can happen. I am not sure that 50 points could be scored on LC if the offense was riding on a bull dozer. Belfry better come to play or it could be a long ride home versus a short walk for LC.
  15. "Don't fix somethin that aint broken", I always say. Dominating the rushing game runs time off the clock while keeping possession and tiring out the defense. We CAN pass, but it is much more dangerous than running the ball IMO.
  16. It got ugly fast... Highlands' first team completely dominated in every aspect of the game.
  17. Just wanted to put this into perspective a little more. Mr. Cecil also has 9 rushing touchdowns and 600 yards to go with it. Also, wow! I didn't realize Conner had 25 TD's. That is a bunch! :scared:
  18. Highlands probably wouldn't give up 35 against Ohio St. X. It is NOT POSSIBLE to score 41 on Highlands. Furthermore, it is VERY unlikely that Highlands will score 40 on Lincoln Co. Highlands hasn't allowed any more than 21 points since week 1 against Ryle when they gave 14 of those points up with the 2nd team JV in.
  19. He might have been talking about the LC that HHS played on Friday. I'm not sure how they could make that comparison based on that game, but I guess it's a possibility.
  20. Does anybody have a schedule of the teams that LC has played? The wins/losses and scores would be nice too if anyone could manage that. Thanks
  21. Number 32 Josh Frost played in the 2nd half of the game. It was a very scary moment and I wonder if the Highlands staff had our angle if they would have let him play in the 2nd half.
  22. This is a VERY bold statement against a rolling Highlands team who has pitched 3 or 4 straight shut-outs against some very impressive teams. Banks will have trouble finding the endzone today.
  23. I don't know if I want to say they were out coached because I hate bashing coaches, but I do agree that I noticed they were running the same 3 or 4 plays continuously (sweep motion, dive/slam, and short passes). It took me back to the 2004 Highlands offense in that sense. Though it doesn't work every time, it is always dangerous. With that said, it would not be my choice of a "go-to" play.
  24. It was completely obvious to me that there was no running up of the score. If you especially look at that last two drives, what is a team to do? Highlands had all of their backups in, they ran the ball up the middle continuously, and kneeled it with two minutes remaining in the game (while they were on the 10 yardline going in!). If they were truely trying to run up the score, why not score there? On the 2nd to last drive, why try for a field goal when you could get a first down and probably score? And why only throw 1 pass in the 2nd half? Come on, Highlands didn't run up the score, the only things they could have done were to kneel 4 times and hand the ball over or put the freshmen in.
