  1. the way ND is playing , i don't see anyone beating them !! Good luck to all
  2. flatrock, after talking to some of the girls and parents they don't seem to be worried. 3pt. is exactly right with teenage girls anything could happen and there are three or four teams who have potential.
  3. Great win for ND !! If they are hitting shots, I don't imagine they are too worried about any 9th region team. Great game for Ms. Jackson. When she is on she is something special to watch.
  4. toughasnails, you are absolutely correct the foul trouble killed LCA! I personally attribute that to them pressing the entire game. Mitchell played a fantastic game and really kept her head by not fouling out to the end of the game. I also believe if Clifton had been able to play in the fourth quarter it would have made a big difference. I am not taking anything from Catholic but the fouls had to be 4-1 against LCA (at least it seemed that way from the opposite side of the floor). In January, LCA better find a way to guard #4 . She is a pure shooter and must have had 6 or 7 3's. I have seen alot of girls,( mostly northern Ky ), teams play and both of these teams were much better ,(at least last night ) , than the teams in the north. It must be something about basketball in Lexington !!
  5. This was truly one of the best high school games I have ever witnessed. This could easily be two of the best teams in Ky. this yr. This game went back and forth the entire game, with Catholic winning in the end 88-82. LCA pressed the entire game, IMO if they had pulled out of the press after the 1st quarter they would have won by 10. Catholic must have had at least 20 points on layups from the press and LCA had 5 girls with 3 fouls on them in the first half. Both teams played very well. I simply believe LCA was outcoached tonight. One thing for sure , Emily can play!!
  6. If ND is on they are going to be a handfull for a lot of teams! congrats Pandas and very nice game to Ms. Jackson
  7. APNW, did Brossart make any adjustments to try and stop Klei? It sounds as though this was a fun game to watch.
  8. I think Bracken will be a lot better by the end of the year. They still aren't going to beat Mason co. but should be respectable
  9. 3 pt. how did BC play? Anyone else stand out for Manual?
  10. 3pt. you are exactly right here , these are just kids and I can see how some of them don't want to continue in the sport when they feel like they are so far behind. There are lots of options a coach can do to keep the score fairly close. In one game we had last season I asked the ref and score keeper to quit keeping score on our side. After the first 5 minutes I only allowed my team to shoot 3 pointers and only after the ball went into the post twice. We were playing token defense and no fast breaks or pressure. The opposing coach noticed after a few shots that they were not adding to our score and was irate saying we were not helping his team at all letting them think they were as good as the score showed, so he made the score keeper and ref continue to add up our score. We ended up winning 103-47. We simply made about every shot we took ( just a lucky night I guess). My point is the opposing parents were very mad and we did everything but hold the ball for the game and their coach wanted the score up there. So there are instances where the score may be lopsided and we just don't know the whole story. But there are also coaches who allow their team to continue to press when they are up by 40. I would like to see some type of mercy rule and also a shot clock for high school. AAU has a 30 second shot clock which is ok for that , but I would like to see high school have a 45 second clock. I think this would prepare them better for the next level!!
  11. Congratulations to Trinity and to Ryle!! Ryle had a great season and if they played Trinity again I believe the score would be a little closer. They had too many turnovers deep in the wrong territory. I agree with Original Rookie they probably are 5th, maybe even 4th on a good day!!
  12. Sportster, I wasn't trying to make it sound like anything was wrong with Coach Rice, but with Mr.F , their work ethic would be second to absolutley noone and I do believe they would get an attitude check. I am certainly pulling for the southwestern girls in that region, but they have some work ahead of them.
  13. Whitley 48 Corbin 42 , I would like to see Corbin pull it out , but Whitley will be tough at home this season.
  14. InDAZone, sounds like McAuley was pretty well coached ? We have seen that type of play before haven't we? Congrats on the first game !
  15. Boone will be tough this year. With a shot clock , i would doubt they lose a game , but since their isn't a shot clock in high school i would have to believe the Boone fans are in for some slow boring games. I watched a team wednesday evening hold the ball for 2:51 in the first half. Any team can only have 5 players on the court at one time and if other teams are holding the ball ,their best 5 probably aren't getting too tired. I believe BC will be pressing a lot this season, just to get other teams out of the slow down game.
  16. InDaZone, you said "I said wanted to transfer, but was not in position to do so at the time" , i said " i am oblivious to who you think wanted to transfer", is there a difference? Read the two post , maybe I am missing something. I was referring to whom ever you must have been talking to was probably making small talk. If they were a "very good friend of mine ", I am sure it was small talk. You are correct I know you and your daughter very well , I kind of assumed you wouldn't think I was referring to you about the small talk.
  17. InDaZone, did Coach Fookes keep 17-18 girls this yr.? I am oblivious to who you think wanted to transfer to BC that is my very good friend. Maybe we will find out next yr. or maybe it was small talk. I don't have alot of " very good friends". Ranger, I believe SK will be very good this yr. The X'treme girls and the twins all improved over the summer. I think they will make state and may win a couple of games down there.
  18. Are you serious, Nell normally keeps 17 to 18 players? This means absolutely nothing ,but imo if a kid plays at the varsity level at any time and then goes to another high school , she should be considered a transfer. Which I am sure takes in a lot of girls in the NKY area.
  19. InDaZone, you are exactly right. I know you pretty well and I know you do your homework before you post on here. I fully understand this is the high school board, but I don't believe many people realize where girls basketball came from and the debt of gratitude we actually owe the AAU. The AAU truly brought women’s basketball to where it is today way before our time. Let me give you some information that you may or may not already know. IMO, in America today we think too much of ourselves and what we can do or get for ourselves. We (in general) are getting away from teaching our kids some of the most important lessons in life. Loyalty for example. Nowadays it is more about what Little Susie wants. AAU was founded in 1888. Dr.James Naismith invented basketball in 1891, when he was asked to come up with an indoor game for those long New England winters. In 1892 Senda Berenson,"the mother of women’s basketball", a very good friend of Dr.Naismith’s, began writing the rules and introducing women to this game. In 1893 Senda organized the First-ever women’s game which was held at Smith College on Mar.22. No male spectators were permitted at the game.(can you imagine that). Berenson was also the first editor of basketball for women in 1901. She continued to edit the basketball rule book until 1916. AAU is in many ways the birthplace of basketball for women and girls, who historically did not have opportunities affiliated with schools or colleges. The first-ever women’s national championship was sponsored by the AAU in 1926, and the AAU selected the first ever women’s all-American team in 1929. For many yrs. the AAU held the only women’s national championship games. In addition to the AAU National Championship in women’s basketball, AAU provided a platform for American women to compete nationally, in World championships, Pan American games and the Olympic games. As you can see the AAU brought women’s basketball on to the scene. In 1972 President Nixon signed Title IX into law opening the door to an explosion of growth in women’s sports. Title IX is a federal law that prohibits gender discrimination in federally funded educational programs and has helped provide many opportunities for women and girls in sports. The AAU fully promoted and pushed the title IX issue so my daughters and all of yours would have this wonderful opportunity. Sorry so long, but hopefully this gives just a little background about girls basketball. We will never fully bridge that gap between high school and AAU but 80 yrs. ago when girls weren't even allowed to play sports the AAU was laying the groundwork for our youth today.
  20. Just out of curiosity , is anyone on here defending this move other than the three Boone parents? I believe everyone has some valid points. I also believe it always looks different from the outside looking in, and from the inside looking out. I agree the KHSAA need to relook at some things in general. In response to an earlier question , If Tamara had also transferred to Boone I believe they would easily have been a top 3-5 team. Anyone who watched this team play last yr. knows that even without Katie this should have been the team to beat this yr. IMO. (in their region). I am not counting out NDA, they were very impressive at times over the summer. Its kind of funny, in aau , the national champions get all kinds of talk and hype for about a week after the tournament and then it is all but forgotten about. I guess my point is the main thing is Katie is happy. Whether right or wrong , in the end it is just a high school sport.
