Bath County 60 Russell 50
same players 1 yr older, (that does make a difference).....I was actually just curious. ( no conspiracy theory) Having watched a lot high school basketball over the years, it's been a long time since Bath has shown this much success in basketball, 75 and '77 maybe. I wondered how much of that success is attributed to coaching versus talent upgrade. For a few years , they seemed to lose what talent they had tO Montogomery or Rowan. I was hoping for some simple opinions from fans rather than insults regarding my basketball knowledge. I reread my post, it seemed like a decent question rather than a verbal slap toward Hicks.....

Bath County 60 Russell 50
I am not from Bath Co so I have not seen them play. I am curious what has propelled their improvement in the last 2 years. I'm aware they hired Hicks but having observed him at other locations , has he made that much difference? Did Bath have a run of talent coming up or did kids move in ? Just curious form someone who watches the program.. I assume it might be a combination of coaching and talent upgrade.

Is there any news about the 11th region Saturday?

10th Region Tourney Host
the average fan might come out if the game is only a few minutes away... as the Mason Co fans have for years. Mason co, howvever, has rarely had an "average" team.

10th Region Tourney Host
I know one group that is satisfied, Estill Co!!!!!!! We drove to Mason Co for 27 years. Not necessarily happy to be out of the 10th, just happy to be where things are more equitable. No one seemed to care that our kids got home at 1:30 in the morning. When you travel that far, regardless; you're at a disadvantage. Montgomery will run a great tournament. A new tradition will dawn and things will become a bit more equal.

Lee Co. 60 Estill Co. 59
Lee has a nice team (better than people realize). Charles hit a unbelievable shot and is without question the most underrated player in the 14th region, however, the video tape was blantantly revealing: there was 1.7 seconds left instead of 2.7., Charles did not get fouled , time should have expired when it was deflected out of bounds (tape confirmed), and the final shot took 1.6 seconds to release. This one belonged to the Neers. The eye of a biased fan can be incorrect (mine included), but the tape does not lie. The NBA rule on end of game situations says if the clock reads .5 seconds , there is only time to catch and quick release. The basket tonight by Charles was made after he caught the ball with his back to the basket and in the air. and then turned to make the great shot. This will be my last and only post on this subject. In all my years of watching basketball, games RARELY if ever, are determined SOLEY on the actions of a referee or a time keeper, tonight , however, a blatant mistake was made. Let's hope the boys from Estill find a way to view this event from a positive perspective and then provide those folks in Irvine with one of the greatest runs in their atheltic history

Holland named coach at Hazard
Good quote. Wonder how paying aomeone $80000 or so to coach basketball for most of the time fits into that equation.

Estill softball??
Estill is indeed very strong once again. Pitcher , Brittny Thomas returns as does most of last years' 14th region winners. Coach Beard has mentioned quitting though I would predict she will stay on for more. This could actually be a year Estill advances in the state tornament as far as their 4th place finish 2 yrs ago.

Estill County (6-1)
They are in he finals of Hazrd's tourney on saturday(4-0). I guess they must be pretty decent. I look for the engineers to make a serious run at the 14th despite their lack of respect from 14th region opponents.

Perry Co. Central..Is Holland out?
Not to take anything away from big Al who has done a good job ,but wouldn't there be several guys who could be great coaches if they were paid $80000 a year to coach basketball at the high school level and not teach a class? Just my opinion

6th and 7th region
anyone know how many PUBLIC high schools there are in Louisville? I would imagine that's when they went to 2 regions, when the private school explosion hit.

June Buchanan 67 Powell County 55
These are 12th region referees. Is there a connection with JBS and someone there? I have heard for years this complaint about the 56th and officiating in the regional tornament. Estill countians have always wondered and I guess still do. It seems officating is talked about more in this region than any other. Is that true?

A note to the Owsley county folks in charge, it was very well run. I was very impressed. The cafeteria and hospitality room was awesome and the service tremendous.

How was the crowd tonight Professer?

Estill County 50 Powell County 46
Powell led by 7 to start the 4th and by about that much with 4:00 to go. Credit estill's consistent defense and ability to make big plays down the stretch. Powell looked very tight in the entire last quarter. Congrats to the Engineers for their first 56th district title.
