I have heard that Al Holland (Hazard) and Alan Hatcher (PCC) own co-coach of the year. Not sure. I haven't heard a thing about player of the year. Does anyone know for sure?

Why would Hatcher get it, they had their school worst record ever..... Hazard is 28-4 only two state L's.

If any coach besides Holland it would be Cordia's coach they won 7 games last season and won 20 this season.

I'll agree. I dont see anyway possible that Hatcher gets it over Honeycut.

I love Big Al but he inherited a pretty nice team and it's pretty easy to coach good high school talent. I like what was done at Cordia and what Hatcher has done as a coach against some pretty big odds and shoes to fill.

Asst. coach Eddie Whitaker and the two players he brought from Bell County was a nice bonus too. Holland has done a good job meshing the talent though. JBS's top 5 players was probably a little more talented than Hazard's, and that turned into a fiasco because of the lack of teamwork which is a direct reflection of coaching.

 

Not to take anything away from coach Holland, but I think Honeycutt and Justice have done more with less talent this season. With LCC's football season lasting three weeks into the playoffs the basketball team got off to a slow start, but they are definitely peaking at the right time under coach Justice.

Hazard also had a deep run into the playoffs getting to the semi state. Big Al uses 9 players. 5 of those, including 3 starters, were playing football into the first week of Dec.

 

Big Al should get some credit for putting in his system at a new school where 5 of your top 9 players had no preseason practice.

The coaches in the region vote on it I think. That's why I always figured these are pretty legitimate awards. Who else would know better then the coaches you play against? Congratulations to whoever the winners are.
