  1. Estill is now in the 14th. From the map I look at, neither Hazard or especsially Hindman are at the center of the 14th. Estill drove 2.5 hrs to get to Knott as if anyone cared. At least allow the 56th to have it every 6th year
  2. they are not centrally located to the 56th district. Breathitt would be centrally located
  3. Will people please notice these kids at Estill County. Sophomore ,Tristan Cackling, has to be one of the top 3 or sophs in the 14th but because of the location of EC in the region, it seems no one notices. Jr, Blake Christopher will finish top 5 all time on EC scoring list and he is having a very good year as well.
  4. EC 63 PC 62 in 3 OT I believe
  5. Estill County has taken the edge for the number 1 seed in the 56th district with a wildly exciting win over Powell Co in 3 OT. The game was filled with big shots and unusual streches. Great enviornment with big crowd. Sophomore Edy Cole, drained 2 charity shots with 7 seconds remaining to put EC up 1 and the Enginneers held on. Estill is 3-0 in the district.
  6. Good point. The best point for his being a good coach could be the fact the Montgomey Co had VERY little basketball tradition prior to his arrival in "87. Since then, they have at least been a player in the 10th almost every year. The case could be made that many of the wins have been against teams they should have beaten soundly. In addition, he drew opposite GRC in the district every year but twice over the course of 18 years or so and advanced to the region each time until Estill snapped that streak in 2000 or 2001. He did however, win the district a several times in that span knocking off Clark in the finals some of those were upsets. One thing to note; the enrollment at MC has increasing at a furious rate in the last 20 years, at least compared to other schools east of I75. I'm not one to laude the praises of every coach in the state for everything they do, I see a whole lot of that on this website, but I think he has had a very solid coaching career and has stayed in one place for a long time which is often uncommon for succesful coaches. It's hard to be a high school coach in one place like that. You make too many enemies after a while. The question still remains; If I am a coach at a small school with drastic talent fluctuations, why would I choose to play MC each year unless they were 10 minutes away. It seems that these same schools play them each year regardless of the talent difference. Do they get compenstion?
  7. He is a very good basketball coach and he has been consistent over the years, something that is very hard to do. He may be one of the better coaches anywhere. My question is; If Montgomery Co has been that good that long, why do these class A schools play them EVERY year sometimes 2-3 times a year?
  8. Update to the original thread starter: The record is now 8-1. Add Bath Co to the list of victims.
  9. Actually, this thread is not a knock on Mongmery Co, Bart Rison does a good job, but why do all these class A schools play Montogmery Co 2-3 times a year?
  10. Let me get this straight. Montgomery Co is 7-1 and has beaten Powell, Menifee twice, Augusta, Bracken, Deming, and Paris. Some of these schools have some nice teams but Montgomery co has an enrollment close to 1200-1300. Will someone please explain to me why these schools continue to play Montgomery Co? Anyone?

  12. Mason Co was EXTREMELY lucky to win this game. JBS lead when the shot (that was a great shot )went in. I'm still confused why Mason chose to use Miller to guard Stepp. Ultimately, Miller fouled out and it actually should have cost them the game.
  13. didn't Harrison win the tournament on a buzzer beater in the early 90's?
  14. Does Jackson Co have a chance to win this region? Have they ever won it?
  15. These 2 players are VERY good. They currently average nearly 50 a game. Chrisptoher plays the 3 sometimes because of the makeup of the team. He is really a point guard and plays the position a portion of the time.
  16. From what I have obsereved in the 56th after watching games, there is not near as much of a gap between the 1st and last place teams as originally thought. Estill who is somewhere in the middle right now, did what they had to do in this one, make plays. That would be the sole reason they won. I always wondered why Parrett did not receive more credit for the great run he had with the Jackson county girls. With Neeley leaving, I would have thought this team would have been WAY down, but they appear headed in the right direction. IMO, the 56th may be one the most balnced districts in the state year in year out. It ceratinly is fun to watch
  17. From what I have seen, the entire 14th region is guards.
  18. Estill is obviously very young however appears to have good chemistry after 2 games. Berryman and Chrispopher are 2 of the better yet underrated players in the 14th and the sophomore group has some very good talent including starting guard, Tristan Cackling. Should be a better game in Beatyville than what I have read in the predictions. While everyone must earn their respect, I am very disappointed that the some Estill Players and the Estill team has not recieved anymore recognition than what they have to this point in their short stint in the 14th region. Dixon was not even voted all region last year after being voted all 10th region team as a junior in a much stronger region that year. Coach Tiller is struggling to schdule similar to problems encountered in the 10th. Berrryman ad Christopher are very good players, I hope they are recognized as such. Lee will have to claw to a win in this game but I predict will win the 14th for the first time since 73'.
  19. Good point. I guess my question should have been, how does rison convince the all A teams that are really not in very close proximity to play him each year?
  20. Why does Deming play Montgomery?
  21. From what I saw of jackson City last year and Powell last year (assuming it is almost the same team) Jackson City had a lot more talent. Jackson City ad some very good quickness and skill. I did not see that from Powell
  22. As a former 10th region coach, I tried multiple times over several years to get just ONE game in the fieldhouse with no success. Our team advanced to the region 3 times in 5 years and were competitive but were always in an unfamilar enviornement when we arrived. Not all schools had the oppurtunity to play in the fieldhouse.
  23. Wish there had a been a train, an Amtrack train. Then the players would not have been so groggy and sick. The band was good though and did not seem to mind the drive.
  24. Have you ver been to the 14th region tournament? I have listened to the same talk for years. Even Mark Story eluded to the fact that the 10th region is the best regional tournamnet in the state in Sunday's paper. It is a good tournament and is run by some professional people but is I don't agree it is always the best tournament in the state. I guess we did find a new home. No one past Paris in the 10th would play us anyway. I especially enjoyed the 2 1/2 bus ride to Mason to the regional tournament on the "nuetral" floor the few times we actually made it.
  25. As a member of the 10th region for the last 27 years and now a memeber of the 14th, we did not see much difference in the regional tournaments. Knott Co had a great facility and a great atmosphere last year. I have watched both regional tournaments (10th and 14th) over the years, not sure why so many in the 10th feel as though is so much more "mystical" than other regions. It seems that the mountains still have the most passion for basketball. IMO
