Estill is indeed very strong once again. Pitcher , Brittny Thomas returns as does most of last years' 14th region winners. Coach Beard has mentioned quitting though I would predict she will stay on for more. This could actually be a year Estill advances in the state tornament as far as their 4th place finish 2 yrs ago.

Agreed. They've got a solid, scrappy club with most everybody coming back. The schedule they've played so far hasn't been spectacular, but they haven't loaded up on softies either. The wins over Franklin Co., Sacred Heart and Lake Catholic are all good ones. They'll really find out what they're all about over the next few days, as they face three ranked teams in a row. (Woodford, South Laurel, Scott Co.)

 

Their schedule the rest of the season is tough, with lots of ranked teams on the docket. No offense to the other 14th Region clubs, but it was a wise move to limit the number of games against 14th Region teams to only those in their district (this year and last).

I don't think they are afraid to take lumps from within the 14th region. They have a very good quality team and will be very hard to take out in the regionals. Many schools lost players last year in the 14th region, but not Estill County. The 14th region all "A" champions from 2006 (Jackson City) lost 5 seniors last year but still gave Jenkins a good run with a 6-5 loss. Jenkins came back strong full force. Cordia lost some key players. Hazard, Letcher and Leslie are also strong with good pitching. Lee, Breathitt and Powell are all sleepers in the region and should not be underestimated.

 

Overall, Estill will be very hard to beat come region play.
