  1. I like the way you think! I don't like giving everybody a trophy but I do think there are a lot of kids that miss out on exposure because of where they live.
  2. The Courier Journal and BGP are much better IMO. I know from Lawrence Co OL Ben Preston is one of the better linemen in the state. He's a 365 bencher 500+ squater and had a huge year. Shane Pack has to be one of the best punters in the state and should have at least been honorable mention at RB. He's about 6'1 230 and had around 28 TD's. I think anybody that played him would give him props. Travis Mollette is the best lockdown corner I've been around behind Ben Revere and that is saying something! He is a very quit, humble kid that gets looked over a lot but anybody around here knows how good he was. That's a few I see left off that should be on. Obrian could be an argument as he led the team in tackles from the safety position. He will be back next year. Lawrence Co also finished #1 in 4,5 and 6A in pass defense yds per game. Mollette + O'Brain were the two biggest reasons why.
  3. Congrats to all the kids that made it. Happy for those kids. 12-1 and we don't have a single kid on there. This is usually the least credible of all the teams that come out IMO. Shane Pack + Ben Preston at least should have been on it.
  4. I agree. Any idea on who will take over there? Have they built their new field yet?
  5. I interviewed with Coach Lucas when he first came. He offered me a job but I decided to take a year off and enjoy my kids. I could tell he was going to do a good job as he was very professional and prepared. Station has a ton of talent and lots of new things including a new school there. It's a tough place though if you haven't been around there. Lexington public football is tough if you haven't been around it. To much to get into but it could be so much better with support! Best of luck to Coach Lucas. He coached at Colorado when Darrian Hagen, Eric Bienemy etc where there. He was also a sports agent for a bit. Interesting guy with a lot of connections.
  6. Boyle finally started bringing pressure the 2nd half and covering the dig route. That was the biggest 2 adjustments.
  7. Last game ever coaching for Goldsmith and his son scores the last play ever in double OT to win State as a Sr! STORYBOOK! Pretty sure Boone had 5 TD's. 3 passing and 2 rushing! Not to shabby in your last game ever. Lawrence Co will always love you 2 and a lot of irony in 1st TD being on belly read which was a Chuke Williams special. Chuke died yesterday of cancer. Loan Oak played lights out! Special teams was huge both sides. Congrats to Boyle and Coach French a true class act! Thank you to both teams for such an entertaining game! Play clock did not run out btw. I was watching it close. Clutch kick especially with no timeouts!
  8. Lots of irony as Coach Goldsmith was my head coach and Chuke was offensive coordinator my SR year. Goldsmith is going after his 1st ever state championship this morning while Chuke passed yesterday. I also worked a couple of summers for Chuke at school and coached with him in the late 90's. He was a tough son of a gun. It took my growing up later in life to really understand him and the impact he had on his players. He was the only human I've ever had a falling out with over miscommunication. After a couple of years we finally patched things up. This year I'm on LC's staff and Coach Salmons had Chuke elected into the LC hall of fame. He rolled out of the hospital to come accept the award with many old LC greats surrounding him. We honestly thought him coming there would probably only leave him with a day or two on Earth. Not Chuke! He battled another 3 months. My prayers go out to Chuke, his family and their friends. He will forever be a part of the LC tradition. All the guys in the Hall have a jersey in a shadow box. Chuke has one of his old pair of flip flops!
  9. I agree. Not good timing on this thread IMO.
  10. Sounds like Karma for Bell Co.... The week before the officials on their sideline let the LC players get cussed from people off the field on that side the whole game (we have our idiots too and so does every school). That same official stopped a LC drive early in the game around the 20 yd line by backing them up on a holding call. Late in the game he peeked into the huddle for about 8 seconds and decided to eject a LC player. The momentum changer for the game without a doubt was 10 seconds left in the half. The same official threw a phantom flag on #1. He said #1 pushed him in the chest with 2 hands. It would have been 4th down 7-0 game about 10 seconds before the half. Instead the phantom flag led to an ejection and gave Bell the ball on the goaline. It was the momentum changer of the game. Talk is cheap so you can watch for yourself. Let the video load all the way then drag the bar to almost the end. http://www.thelevisalazer.com/?cat=21 At the end of the day Bell is better than LC and Boyle is better than Bell. All 3 have had great seasons. I look for all 3 to be really good again next year too. Congrats to the Bell Sr's on a great run. You guys have represented well. Best of luck to Boyle Co. I hope you guys win it all. It still amazes me the amount of talent that comes out of county schools like Bell and Boyle. I guess the speed amazes me more than anything! Both are really well coached too!
  11. I ate a good steak at Montana Grill a long time ago. I think it was the Jack Daniels steak maybe? Maybe the locals can help out. It's been awhile but we had a good time there.
  12. My dad and I used to go every year for about 15 years or more. We haven't gone the past two years but I've been one of them. I have a kid I coached but moved away that is QBing in one of the games and my old coach is helping. I'd love to go see him. To Louisville it's about 3 hours and I would go. To Bowling Green I'm guessing it's close to 5 hours. I hope to get to see him but it sure makes it tougher in BG. I just couldn't see them moving the Sweet 16 to Eastern or Western...
  13. Sooo upset I didn't make it over to the game! Congrats to Boyle especially the Goldsmith's and Hester! Proud of you guys!
  14. I'm REALLY hoping to get there! I played for Coach Goldsmith and was Boone's QB coach 2 years ago. I used to be at Lex Cath but am at Lawrence Co now. We had Thanksgiving with my family today and my wife's family is all in Lexington. Her sister just bought a huge 150 acre farm in Jessamine Co and they are having Thanksgiving with her family tomorrow at 4:00. I'm trying my best to slide out of there and get over to Danville. If I do I'd love to meet some of you that I've seen posting for several years now. Best 2 teams in 4A IMO. I'd love to see it! I think Boyle comes out the winner. Bell is very physical. Both teams have speed. I think in the end Bell puts the ball on the ground too much. I'm excited and hope both teams have a great game. Best of luck on your travels Bell I hope you guys represent. In my heart as much as I love the kids from Eastern KY I hope to see Boone, Coach G, Coach Hester and the rest of the Boyle Co team win it all! Coach Goldsmith will always be my coach and Boonie will always feel like one of my own!
  15. Lawrence Co should be 3A. I look for them to be at least 3 when the new alignment comes out.
  16. Kids weren't the problem on bells side other than 1 player..it was the adults. It's over. Best of luck next week. You have a great team. I wasn't there pregame so I apologize if one of our coaches let a kid talk trash. That's not what we are about!
  17. That's the last I'm going to post on the game. The kids played hard. It was 7-0 about 10 seconds before the half when the 1st ejection came. Wheels fell off after that. Bell Co and Knox Co should be in the BGP preseason rankings next year. They both return a ton! Two very talented programs in that area of the state!
  18. True. The team came in after the game as suprised as anybody. 1% really made the other 99% look terrible. Totally embarrased and not what our program is about. Situation is already taken care of. Both teams had 2 people each that really made the others look bad. It's a shame because both programs have a lot to be proud of. Reflecting back on this season I hope outsiders understand this team is made up of goveners scholars, kids that witness to other kids that they get on their knees every single night and thank God for being able to be a part of our football family etc. We are built with a lot of high character kids. You don't have the turnaround we've had without character. I really hate what went down for our other Sr's. The kids that were wrong are still ours. We love them and I really hope they find a way to learn from their mistake and spin it into a positive by maybe sharing their mistakes with the younger kids. It was the most embarasing thing I've been around since I've been around the game. I think we have to step back as a program and really look at winning and losing with grace. As for the adults on the sideline I've been told they will be looked into. According to a neighboring school this isn't the first time opposing kids have been jawed by an assistant. It's all over with now. Best of luck to the kids at Bell who obviously work hard. We had about 20+ of our kids at our church yesterday. They were dissapointed with what transpired but feel good about laying the foundation again in Lawrence Co.
  19. Honeslty with everything that went on I don't remember the exact yard lines. I do know we had a tackle for loss and it would have been a very tough TD to get as opposed to being right on the goaline. In my mind looking back I thought it was longer than that but I'll take your word. I know I felt like we had a great chance to keep them out of the endzone before the penatly and felt like it was going to be really tough after the penatly. That was a game changer. We had been palying really good defense before that.
  20. There were a couple on both sides that made the programs look bad. I've talked to people from both sides and the issues on both sides will be taken care of. I think it's time to put that part to rest. Both programs have too many good things going to to dwell on what happened. As for the game I was proud of our kids. The defense held strong and almost got into halftime only down 7-0 with about 10 seconds or so in the half. It would have been interesting had the penalty not happend moving the ball from 4th and long to the 1 yd line. Big difference in going into the half down 7-0 and 14-0. The LC defense forced Bell 3 and out but the Bell defense returned the favor. We haven't had a botched punt all year I don't think but gave the ball to Bell 22 yds out then the turnover for a TD sealed the deal. We have been great all year protecting the football which is a huge reason we won a lot of games. Turnovers hurt a lot last night. I think a large part of that was because Bell Co was great on defense. Solid up front, fast DB's and really good LBers that play downhill. They are physical on both sides of the ball. It's amazing that they have almost all of their skill kids back other than Raines. I expect them to be right back in the thick of things next year too. I'm proud of our kids. It takes a lot of character to only win 3 games over 3 years and still stick together. Staying together is one thing over that span. Winning 12 games your SR year after that adversity might never be matched again. It speaks volumes to the type of kids we are blessed to have.
  21. Pack is an awesome kid. He was in the hospital Thurs along with several players. I heard Raines was too. He's a good looking athlete. You guys have a lot to be proud of. Both teams play physical ball the way the game is supposed to be played. Congrats on making it back to the State Semis again and best of luck to you guys. I agree on the offcials. They had no control. They guy on the LC side ran half the night 5 yds out of bounds up and down the field just looking for trouble instead of managing the game. Like I said in the end the Bell Co defense and Offensive line were the difference. Great ball team with a ton back next year along with Knox in that District. Both those schools will be tough again next year!
  22. The flag was thrown it's over. As for the coach multiple players came over on multiple occasions upset because one coach was talking so much smack towards them. It was the bigger guy with a taboggin and glasses holding the play card. About 6 different kids came over at different times during the game and every single one of them pointed out the same guy. That is bush league and Bell Co has too great of a program for garbage like that from one person just as Lawrence has too great of a program for 2 kids to make it look so bad. In all the kids and coaches outside those 3 were classy. Both programs have a great fan base, a great group of kids that all work hard. Good luck to Bell Co. In the end their defense was the difference in the ballgame.
  23. Congrats Pburg! Hope you guys win it all. Glad people around the state are going to get to see Burchett play.
  24. Great year for PCC. Congrats to Sheldon Clark. I hope you guys win it all. I said before the playoffs I thought you were the sleeper and would win the Region. SC is a very physical football team!
  25. Pulling for the Goldsmiths and Boyle Co! I think both teams are great but Bell puts the ball on the ground so much that it's going to catch up with them I think. Good luck to both teams.
