Sounds like the Eagles are just some run support away to doing some big things at the end of the season and heading into the post season. It is obvious they are sending a great set of arms to the hill each and every outing. Paintsville is still playing tough and will be hard to beat. I look for the winner of the 15th to come from the 57th, barring something major. Some nice looking clubs in the 57th district, as always.

Things still in line for the Tigers even after the Adkins era has ended.

Just got back from the game, and it was a nice night of basketball. Mayo took way too many shots, and couldn't hardly connect on any of them. He even started to get boo'ed later on in the game. Also, even though Lawall authoritized a couple of dunks, he also missed on and air balled a free throw. So although it was great action for the most part, you could still tell there was a lot of nervousness. The most exciting part of the game was when Mayo pulled up with about three tics left to try and win the game. If he would have hit that shot everyone would have forgotten everything he had done to that point. Oh, and BTW, Beasley is a stud.

Anything can happen, and thats the beauty of Kentucky's Sweet 16. Its not the best show in high school sports for nothing, although you have to like Scott Co.'s chances. Should be a great way to finish up the week.

Never! The Sweety 16 is what makes the Kentucky High School tournament more exciting and more unpredicatble than any other state tournament across this nation. People come all over just to watch the action. The Region system in place is great and I see no reason to change. Reasons not to class. 1.) The Sweet 16 is so profitbale. 2.) Makes for more exciting basketball. 3.) Gives room for cinderellas and underdogs to win. Class system is too predictable and upsets really are not upsets if teams are in the same class. 4.) Keeps us from having repeat champions. In most states the same schools win or compete for their classes if not every year, close to it. 5.) Stays with tradition, something forgotten in this day and age of sports. Everyone is always wanting change. 6.) Actually makes the Regional tournaments mean something and keeps them more competitive. 7.) Narrows number of teams who make it, really making playing at Rupp more prestigious. I could go on, but I think I have proved my point.

For three straight years the Highlanders win the WV AAA State Championship. Mayo put on a clinic with 41 points and a self ally-oop off glass to finish it. Patterson had 15 and 10 I think, with 7 blocks.

Not even a close race. The old Drift Park South Floyd used to play on is incomparable.

June Buchanan should be the favorite coming in, but I really am intrigued by Shelby Valley. Valley after the win tonight is the only undefeated team left in the state of Kentucky (via Lexington-Herald Leader), so its hard to count out someone like that. Should be a great matchup if these two were to meet up, but I think JBS has to be the overall favorite. Pikeville and Hazard could also make some noise, I look for it to be a great tournament, as it is year in year out.

:thumb: The kid is an absolute stud, and too bad he couldn't be like Randolph Morris and be lured out of state and into the bluegrass. He is the type of guy I would love to see playing down low with Randolph, Lawai is a freak of an athlete.

Ouch, this will hurt but Ashland is one of those schools who can bounce back due to the talent they have that was roaming the sidelines and playing special teams last year. Not many schools can just reload, but Ashland is one of the few that can. They may not be great next year, but ones things for sure,.....they won't be bad.:thumb:

I think Harlan County will be able to build a very good program, but like any new consolidation it will take a few years and a whole lot of patience. See Letcher County Central for an example. With the new school coming into the picture, how many of the Harlan Independent players if any will transfer to the new school?

I like the move to the Expo. Like said, helps with the publicity, even though it is hard to beat that smaller gym feel that the Oak Hill / Ballard game had a couple years ago at East Ridge (Especially when Josh Smith Windmilled from the Free Throw Line). Not a bad turnout while I was there, but not even half capacity either. The basketball was good, even though I can honestly say I was very disapointed with Long Beach Poly......was expecting much better things out of them. Also dissapointed that Glenn was as poor as they were. A few years ago had Eric Wallace in which was a top 25 prospect sophmore, also Marshall Moses hometown and he does not play for Glenn. A few years ago Glenn was an incredible team, this year, not so much. Needless to say I was dissapointed in LBP and Glenn. On the otherhand congrats to Central and Ballard, two good wins for the bluegrass.

It all started as being the Warrior Classic in East Ridges' first year of existence. Since then it has only grew and Farm Bureau has basically took over the reigns. Always a great slate of basketball and in its fifth year as a tourney will have seen the likes of Oak Hill (Josh Smith and Rondo), St. Louis Vashon, now Long Beach Poly and Glenn N.C. This is the first year the tournament will be held at any location other than East Ridge High School, but the move to the Expo Center will only help give more credibility to the Classic.

I think Ashland had a very good season and should be proud of themselves. IMO the improved each and every week, and thats what good football teams do, get better. This can be shown by their exceptional play in the rematch against JC. In no way should Ashland hang their heads.

Thats definately a good stat line.......I knew had had went for 1500, but I had no idea he already reached the 2000 mark. Anytime you can achieve this feat in eleven games playing AAA football, then you certainly have had a great season. Congrats and best of luck to Grimm and the Eagles.

What are Grimms totals for the season? Any chance he reaches 2000 being JC makes a deep run, as in Championship game, or Semi's? 2000+ yards would be an incredible season.

I wouldn't quite refer to Ashland as "the big city" by any means, but I can see your point of stereotyping. Its just a part of life living in or around Kentucky, especially in athletics, however, not all are prejudice. As far as the Eagles go, I'm really pulling for them to make a very deep run and hopefully even make it to the carpet. :thumb:

Ive heard it a lot in this thread, and although true Burch is very weak this year in Coalfield A, WV, this is still the same guy, Paul McCoy, who ran for 595 against Shelby Valley in the Shorty Jammerson Grid. I know Matewan had to forefeit the win, so I am assuming that this mark had to be forefitted too? None the less, this was one thing that was going to stand out to me this season was McCoys 595 being erased, but now that he went on to post 658, I guess that will no longer be a concern. Again, yes, Burch is a weak team, but it wasn't like McCoy was just piling up yards due to the competition, the kid can run, and has proved that all season long.

Suprised Belfry or Bell didn't move up with Rockcastle having an off week. Still looks good though, congrats to the Jaguars for making it in there at the ten spot.

Was at Elkhorn City through the mid to late 90's. Coached baseball and assisted basketball. Won four straight district baseball titles and a Region as well, this all being with a group that wasn't as talented as others around the region, he just made it happen. Left Elkhorn City for Frankfort, and then from Frankfort to Franklin County in which he coaches(d) Girls Basketball and is very beloved from the parents, players, and whole community. East Ridge would be making a steal if they could bring Thacker back home.

These games right here are all huge concerning next weeks Top 10. I feel with the Rock having an off week will only be a disadvantage to them being that Belfry and Bell are in action. We all know Belfry will take care of business against Magoffin, but the big X factor in all of this is the Bell/Corbin game. Certainly Corbin is a much, and I say a much better team than Magoffin, and most people feel Bell should be ranked higher anyway. So my question is if Rockcastle should fall due to the two behind them playing, who keeps number 2? Belfry or Bell?

It's not that Smith is knocking the talent/work ethic of OJ, or even that he wouldn't love to have a player of that caliber on his squad. Smith has went on record to say numerous times that he does not want the traveling media circus that gravitates toward Mayo to corrupt or interfere with the way he runs his program, and as hard as Coach Smith has worked to get the Warriors where they are without anything more than a minor distraction, I'm sure he has all the right to deny Mayo. IMO he is very justified for refusing Mayo, I'm pretty sure (as great as OJ is) that Steve Smith can win without him.

Powell Valley normally has one of the strongest teams in their class across the state of Virginia. Not sure what they have this year, but a lot of good players have come out of that program......NFL stars Thomas and Julius Jones come to mind when you think Powell Valley. With that said and not knowing much on how they look this year, I'm calling a tossup.
