Time to class basketball?

Featured Replies

Of the 32 teams that made the region finals, 18 are 4A schools (according to last year's football alignment totals) and 8 more were 3A schools. Six of the 32 schools were Class 1A or 2A.

Of the Sweet 16 teams, 11 of the 16 are Class 4A and two are 3A.

If it's OK to class football and track, why not basketball. I personally think it's time to move past the "Sweet 16 tradition" nonsense and class basketball.

I ahve to disagree with you. If it ain't broke ... don't fix it. I don't think it's broke. The A schools have their OWN state tourney, so no reason to complain.

But that's just me.

Do it and watch basketball die in this state...

Might as well quit playing basketball in this state if that happens.

Even the class A is a joke. You can have 425 (133 per class) in the top 3 grades and be class A. Some of those little schools like Cloverport, Silver Grove, Monticello, Burgin, Deming, Augusta, etc. graduate about 25 or 30 per year.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

But the AA schools can't compete in the All-A. Caldwell County is the shining example. Possibly a 2A state contender but lost to 4A Henderson County in the region semifinals. Ended their year at 24-4. If they had beaten Henderson County, they would have to beat 4A Christian County to advance to Rupp.

Leave it the way it is... It truly would ruin it.

I agree, see Indiana

The "trip to Rupp" would be a diluted shadow of itself in a class system.

Without the class A, then some of these kids that play in it never get to know what a great thing a big tournament is. Most of the small schools never make it to the region tournament and have little hope of ever playing in Rupp. Just wondering how you would fix this problem for a small school view point if not something like the Class A tourney?

Really? I don't get that vibe after reading this.

That's Indiana basketball ... we SHOULD NEVER compare Kentucky to Indiana!!!

Here's another story about how attendance numbers, which were dropping before class basketball in Indiana, are recovering nicely.

The sweet 16 is what makes Kentucky so remarkable and prestigous. Making it to the big dance in kentucky is like making the Final Four in NCAA. You can't take the sweet 16 away from Kentucky! Taking the sweet sixteen is taking basketball right from the state. No body would care as much any more.
