Without question this has to be the finest slate of bowl games in high school football history. Its almost impossible to get top programs such as Byrnes, De La Salle, Don Bosco, and Lakeland together in the same region for a day of football, not too mention, the same stadium, and in the same bowl. The epitimy of high school football at its best in this bowl.

Sorry for the mis-association, I thought Harlan Independent was consolidating as well giving the county one high school, but since there not, its great to see how their program has came out and played this season. Im sure you as well as other Dragon fans alike are pleasently suprised.

I would be pumped too. Anytime you get a chance to see High School football on this big of stage has to be something worth doing. I am excited for you.

Im sure no one around the mountains saw this one coming, except for maybe those in the Harlan community. As in most schools in their last go around, you would expect them to basically fade to black, ....apparently this is not the case. Harlan by this has made a statement that they have came to play this season, and IMO builds a great deal of confidence when they combine into Harlan consilidated.

This in fact is a true statement. In all honesty with no bias for either team, just a neutral standpoint, Matewan beat Shelby Valley a lot harder than the score indicated. It would have truley been a crime if Matewan did not win, and I wouldn't have been suprised to see Matewan beat SV by around 20, because if you were in attendence, or if you listened to the radio it was clear Matewan was beating them a lot more than the score indicated. To be honest, the only reason Shelby Valley hung descent numbers was due to the weak secondary of Matewan. It was basically a fade every time for Valley that any progess was made down field. However, by throwing on the weak secondary (the fade especially) they did score, but like I said and like others have said this should have been Matewans by 2-3 touchdowns. McCoy, the RB for Matewan had an incredible game, and basically ran at Will on SV's defense. He had 170 at the half, and I wouldnt be suprised if he didn't finish with around 300+ rushing yards. All this with a 93 yard called back, not to mention like a 50 yarder called back. More importantly he was Matewans 2nd rusher as their number one guy went down with an injury earlier this season. Like said to sum all this up, a few skewed calls may have brought the score closer, but in all actuality the game wasn't that close at all.

Kevin Justice is now the principal at East Ridge, so more than likely there will be two spots to be filled.

True. With a lot of four team districts around the state the 6A playoff system will resemble the baseball/basketball system with every team in district (four team district) making it in. The upside is it gives lesser teams than normally have no shot to play a playoff game a chance, but the downfall is it takes away from the traditional style of playoff football. However, this is about the only flaw in the system, I cannot wait to see how this all folds out next season.

Trimble would be a great addition to the staff IMO. I feel as if I'm in the majority of those thinking Trimble got a raw deal when he was practically forced out at JC, could get East Ridge back on track.

Your very on mark witht he comment on Haywood. I have seen five or so games in which Belfry has had a running clock for most of the second half, and in all five games I can say that the JV played for the most part of the third quarter and some fourth but in most instances if necessary the freshmen team came in either early fourth/late fourth (as needed) and finished up the game. Haywood is highly accredited with the way he runs his show and he has a fist full of rings to further back up that.:thumb:

Now that East Ridge has hired a new Principal, I'm pretty sure hiring a new head basketball coach is somewhere on the agenda. Any news on who has applied? Possible canidates, leading canidates? Has this job been posted yet, and when does it close? Thoughts? Opinions?

That is really uncalled for, especially as the game was already well in hand. I can see giving starters some extended work being it is the first season game, but there is a time to eventually sub in the junior varsity, and this time comes a little before 60+. I know the bench isn't really deep, but with the game well in hand what better time to give the other guys a chance to play? None-the-less, congrats to Shelby Valley on the win, and best of luck to Phelps for the rest of the season.

Each and every year the Pike County Bowl seems to grow and keep getting better and better. Without question one of the premiere Bowl Weekends in the state.

Why didn't Oden play in this one? Did he already exceed the number of All-Star games allowed by the NCAA? Or if he has one left is he saving it for another game? The McDonalds All-Star game counts for one correct?

The days of Paintsville being dominate went away with the now parody of the Region and not to mention the departure of Charlie Adkins. Even though they may not be winning it all year in and out, they still will always be one of the favorites to come out of the 15th. So don't be too down about Paintsville baseball, they have been one game away from a title the past two to three seasons. As for Sheldon Clark....... A very special congrats. These guys have played great baseball the past few years and never seemed to catch the break needed to advance into sectionals. They play the toughest district in the whole region and just making it out says something, and to finally break through and put five solid games together (district and region) is saying something about what the Cardinals are made of. Like said, they have been there with the talent for the past few seasons, and IMO are very deserving of finally getting over the hump. Good luck in sectionals, and with luck at Applebees. For the rest of the region, hats off on a great season, and lets hope the off season goes well, and best of luck for next season.

Bracket looks very lopsided to me. Tough break for those in the top half. Painstville should waltz their way into finals while still saving their best arms. Pikeville, SC, and AC are the other legit top teams in the region and they end up in the same half. Not fair, but that's how the draw goes.

How many districts in a row now does that make for the Panthers? InTheGame.......I think both the softball and baseball regions are at East Ridge but I am not sure.

Another tough one for East Ridge, but it sounds like they are playing very young this season. Hopefully with some more gametime experience these guys can build on something in the upcoming years. As for AC congrats on the win and no hitter, they are playing hot as of late. Just may come down to them and Pikeville to represent the 15th. Good luck to both. :thumb:

Nice :thumb: Having a lot of room to work with helps, especially with the numbers of boys Pikeville has. Most squads have pretty nice equipment, but jammed in tight places. P-Ville has the luxury of both. Nice looking room, hopefully the Panthers take full advantage of it and make a push for the carpet. :thumb:

I have been wondering the same. In 2003 they were a very nice ball club, but although I have had high hopes for them the past two seasons, it's like they've been playing the exact opposite of how you thought they would.

Heard that Central basically had East Ridge put away, but somehow the Warriors put together a nine run inning, any truth to this? Hopefully these guys are progressing faster than I thought, although PCC has been down for the past couple of years.

Congrats on the Win, while looking at the schedule I saw the struggling Warriors picking up a W in this one, so Im glad too see them win the ones they should have on paper. Just keep working hard, and get the program turned back around. :thumb:

Phelps seems to be playing good baseball this season, looks like things are headed in the right direction for this squad. Congrats to Pikeville on the win.

Pikeville seems to be playing as good as anyone, with JC, Sheldon Clark, and Allen Central cutting it close. At this point in the season anyway, and lets not forget the season is just beginning.
