CoachJ Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Well, actually SAME "room" (which is almost perfect already), but completely NEW equipment! Old stuff wasn't terrible, but this stuff allows us to maximize space and work on EXPLOSIVE lifts better and in less time per workout * 8 POWER RACKS, 5 with virtually every attachment needed for football lifting and adjustable benches (no need for separate flat and incline benches), * eight complete sets of quality BUMPER PLATES for Olympic lifting, * 2 new plyo box sets, * 8 complete sets of "StretchBands" to allow us to regulate resistance levels through the lift and work muscle groups free weights can't work, * Brand new ATTENDANCE/ACHIEVEMENT RECORD BOARDS completed DONATED by a GREAT local company (Guru, is it okay for me to post the name of that company? I'd really like to publicly recognize them for their great work). IT'S GREAT TO HAVE A TREMENDOUSLY SUPPORTIVE ADMINISTRATION WITH FORESIGHT AND THE ABILITY TO 'KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.' THIS STUFF IS PART OF A WHOLESALE DIRECTIVE ON THEIR PART TO IMPROVE THE OVERALL HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF OUR STUDENT BODY. PHASE TWO OF THIS PROJECT WILL INCLUDE CARDIO EQUIPMENT -- WE'RE WORKING ON SOME GRANTS SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT. IN THE MEANTIME, WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE ON THE RESISTANCE EQUIPMENT -- WHICH RESEARCH IS SHOWING NOW IS ACTUALLY MORE BENEFICIAL IN SOME WAYS TO MAINTAINING OVERALL PHYSICAL HEALTH.
CoachJ Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 The other side of the room (look at all that GREAT "open space" for plyometrics, rasslin', and boxing!).
CoachJ Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 Our "fully accessorized" power racks. Kudos to our strength coach/def. Coordinator, Michael Copley, for great planning of a comprehensive program and thinking ahead of what we'd need in the future as we designed these within a budget.
CoachJ Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 Here's the "Before" pics. Again, not bad stuff, but really took up a lot of space and included a lot of "machine-weights" we just don't use for explosive lifting.
CoachJ Posted April 8, 2006 Author Posted April 8, 2006 And these new ATTENDANCE BOARDS not only serve as public motivation for our guys to be committed every day, but also double as a way to list improvement/decline for every kid at 4 different "test periods" through the off-season. You really have to see them in person to see how PROFESSIONAL they are...and they were COMPLETELY donated by a great local company -- UNISIGN, INC. (Guru, please feel free to delete if it is against the rules to post their name).
SLINK Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Looks like you have got a lot of room for your agilities and plyometrics. You have really maximized your space.
CoachJ Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 This may be the MOST important for football-application of all that strength built in those racks... ...thanks to our EXTREMELY SUPPORTIVE custodial staff, we also got these VERY WELL-MADE plyo boxes ranging from 16" up to 42" (a BIG accomplishment when our kids can make it up on this baby flat-footed; really makes them work harder on the EXPLOSIVE exercises...and we've got 5 LINEMEN that are able to get up there so far).
CoachJ Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 Looks like you have got a lot of room for your agilities and plyometrics. You have really maximized your space. Thanks; again, great design on these racks by THE EQUIPMENT GUYS -- an outfit out of Ohio that does really good AND CUSTOMIZED work.
CoachJ Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 ...and last but not least, a GREAT tool in managing resistance THROUGHOUT the range of motion of a lift -- StretchBands from JUMPSTRETCH (another Ohio company that actually has a patent on these "rubber-band-like" implements). Oh, and a thing or two that really seemed to help our kids on the field this spring...
newarkcatholicfan Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Hopefully the players are locked in there for a few months and they come out bigger and stronger then ever. On a side note now I know where to go to lift the next time I am in Pikeville.(LOL)
MOUNTAINFOOTBALL Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 The new equipment looks very nice. Pikeville really does have a great weightroom, I love how it is designed and overlooks the gym. Its nice to see the kids working so hard in there and getting stronger for next year. I think its safe to say that Coach J and his staff are by far getting more out of the weightroom at PHS than any of the previous staffs. Good luck to Coach J and the whole team and staff...I am very excited about the future of Pikeville football.
76-80-82-? Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 It's a great thing to see when you have an administration and community that support its athletic programs, it can make a world of difference for a student athlete. I know the Panthers are in great hands with Coach J.
SLINK Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 We are in the process of getting our new weightroom built. According to the design, I think you would be impressed CoachJ. Stretchbands really help in the speed and agility department.
