  1. Prince has done a great job with OHS' program. He's helped get the artificial turf, new weights, cameras for HUDL highlights. Most importantly, he's fostered an environment of discipline and achievement in the classroom. I wish him nothing but the best in his new job in Virginia. As for the next hire, I hope OHS goes the route of a proven head coach who can take the program to the next level. Here are a few of my choices: John Edge-Owensboro Catholic Nick Hart-Gibson Southern (Indiana) Tony Lewis- Henderson County Of course, Rush Propst is always welcome to apply. Heck I'm sure Dale Mueller could do well with Owensboro's athletes.
  2. Owensboro would disagree with this statement.
  3. OHS slept walked through this one. OHS looked very disinterested, but catholic is scrappy and hit a bunch of 3s. When OHS applied defensive pressure, Catholic wilted. OHS was without Airius Phillips (ky-tenn football game) and starting PG Jacoby Harris. I think Ocath may have been without Jansen Rainey. I think Ocath guard cam obryan may be out for the season. Ocath just can't match up with OHS and OHS has stunk the place up both games against the aces. Darrion Morrow had another great game for OHS. Hopefully OHS can elevate their game soon.
  4. WOW!! Is Webster for real? I love to see small towns teams have a good season.
  5. I agree, but the move is mid season and primarily to get trace back on the court. This is a dangerous can of worms to open up. At the end if the day I say let him play. It'll just make it that much sweeter when OHS wins the region.
  6. He actually played in Ohio County's first 3 or 4 games and was averaging close to 20 ppg. He was sitting out due to disciplinary reasons.
  7. OHS flat out played poorly until the 4th quarter. Holman has to rev up his motor if OHS is to achieve their goal. OHS plays zone exclusively and that played right into apollos hands. drake needs to mix up some man defense because playing zone all the time allows less talented teams to stay in the game if they're hitting the 3. When OHS pressed and played some man, Apollo really got shook. I think OHS should go zone for 2 or 3 minutes a quarter then break out some man. If they get in foul trouble, OHS can always fall back into the zone. While Eli Wright didn't hit a 3, he carried Apollo in the second half. He is pretty much unstoppable when he drives to the basket. Moss gave Apollo good production with his shooting and Coomes did a wonderful job against Miller. Apollo missed a golden opportunity to get a win against OHS. In retrospect, it may have not been the worst thing for his to lose because they Devils need to turn the intensity up when they play city teams. OHS gets everyone's best shot and that's just the way it is. I've watched Apollo play 4 times and this is by far the best they've played. Also big props to Darrion Morrow. This kid is pure ice water in his veins stone cold killer. I would venture to say that he's been OHS' best player this year. At the end of the day, this game doesn't mean a lot as these teams will probably play 2 maybe 3 more times. Both teams will be playing in the Muhlenburg county classic today as OHS will take on bowling green and Apollo will take on Hoptown. As for the Trace Young thing.....I always want the best for kids. I believe in giving kids the best opportunities to succeed. However, if e KHSAA allows young to play for Apollo this season what's to keep other families from renting apartments mid season to live in a district just to get eligible? Young moved to avoid discipline at Ohio county and he shouldn't be rewarded by being allowed to play this year. That's my two cents. (Which doesn't matter). On the flip side if, Young suits up, they better beat OHS. It'd be a shame to have 4 staters that didn't grow up in district and still not be able to win lol.
  8. OHS knocked off the defending 2A champs in Illinois by winning the championship of the Eldorado Christmas Tournament tonight. The Devils looked sloppy at times and were playing without starting point guard sophomore Jacoby Harris. Darrion Morrow stepped up and made some big shots for OHS. Justin Miller and Aric Holman also made the all tournament team. OHS will need to clean up the mistakes if they want to make a push for the Kentucky state championship in March. I love Eldorado's gym, as it's a throwback seats all around the floor kind of gym. The place was packed everygame, and that speaks to the passion of high school basketball fans in Southern Illinois. Congrats to the Devils for representing Kentucky, and I can't wait to see them play Apollo on Friday!
  9. This. I've been telling Apollofan privately that I believed barker is trying to develop the other kids. Barker can run everything through Eli every game but when the tourney comes around and Eli is off or gets in foul trouble, then what? I think Barker is doing the right thing in the long run. The team will be better in late February because of it. When Wayne Breeden was at OHS they'd take some early season losses to develop kids to play the right way. Playing your best in March is what matters and good coaches get that.
  10. In fairness, OHS didn't schedule this opponent. They opted to play in this tourney, and the committee set this up. I just saw Jacoby the other day and he was walking around just fine. Apollofan, the better question is, why would Apollo schedule a team like whitesville trinity? What does that game do for them?
  11. It'll be interesting to see what the khsaa decides. I think it'll come down to what Ohio County decides to say to the khsaa concerning Traces situation there.
  12. I think we'll know Sunday if OHS can silence the critics. Either way, these holiday tourneys are a great chance for teams to find their weaknesses and work on them.
  13. Yep. The word is he's headed to Apollo.
  14. I guess we'll find out soon enough. The King of the Bluegrass starts Friday.
  15. Warren Central did a great job pressuring OHS' guards into turnovers. The Dragons are very athletic and they really shot the ball well from 3 in the second half. OHS has a massive size advantage but the scrappiness of Warren Central made up for that. WC looked like the more hungry team to me. They were diving for lose balls, pushing the pace, and cutting hard on offense. Coach drake for OHS is going to have to figure out a way to better handle teams that press OHS. It seemed like OHS went into a mini panick mode and that allowed a 12 point lead to turn into a tie game. Holman and miller were great. I also feel like jacoby Harris may be the missing piece for OHS to make a run. He is a true point guard that can handle pressure and facilitate. All in all it's a good win for OHS. From a fans prespective, I wanted OHS to win by 20 cause Scott County beat WC by 20. However you take a win against a good team like WC anytime you can get it. OHS has another big 9th district game on Friday against OCath. You can view a replay of the game at The Homers and Displaced Diehards on 102.7 The Game | Based in Owensboro, Ky
  16. Highlands couldn't guard Rodney Collier #13 for OHS in a phone booth. OHS stopped going off tackle, to the outside, and the passing game. Highlands totally deserves to win and I give them full credit. I just feel like OHS was a better team but the OHS coaches dropped the ball. I had a person tell me at halftime that the first half was worth the last 10 years of bad play calling. I agreed but I knew there was another half to play. Anytime a team plays not to lose, they typically wind up losing. Hats off to highlands to making the plays, but any comments about "uh oh, they p'd them off or whatever is garbage. In my opinion, OHS should have won this game but it don't change the fact that they didn't. Even some highlands players said they didn't really make any changes. The only changes made in the second half were OHS going away from what was working and I'll never understand why they did that.
  17. Some of you Highlands fans need to get over yourselves. OHS was not scared of highlands, fatigue was not a factor. Bottom line is OHS' coaches dropped the ball with play calling, Hoge made some great 4th down, plays, and OHS had some ill advised turnovers off questionable play calling in the second half. I give highlands all the props in the world but the better team didn't win yesterday.
  18. Highlands did a great job but the play calling of OHS in the second half lost the game. Congrats Birds but OHS gave it away. Hoge is the real deal though.
  19. Apollo will be fine. Barker will use this scrimmage as a teaching tool and the best part is.......IT DOESN'T COUNT! My concern for Apollo is who will carry the team if Eli is struggling?
  20. This won't happen, I can promise that. OHS will need to play their A++ game to win Friday night. North Oldham has good size, and an offense that likes to keep teams off balance. I like how they use Beasley in different ways and if he gets loose against OHS, he'll take it to the house. After watching several of their games, I'm more and more impressed with Beasley. The kid is not only fast but he does a great job of getting yards after contact. North Oldham does a great job with their misdirection and they love to hit the tight end in the flat. It's a simple play that keeps defenses honest. I think this game will come down to which team makes the fewest mistakes. If OHS comes out and keeps turning the ball over, the Devils will fall short of their goal for state. Should be a good one!
  21. I keep doubting Meade and they keep on winning. I'm not sure how they keep doing it but they do. The Green Wave aren't flashy but they play very aggressive defense and fundamentally sound offense which is the formula they're using in Brandenburg. I say Meade gets revenge this time around.
  22. I knew Mac was bluffing. I'm sure that's what the FS coaching staff is feeding the kids. They're telling them that no one thinks they have a shot. FS is a very good team, but Madisonville is scary talented. The problem for the Maroons has been mistakes and execution. If they're clicking......watch out.
  23. Yeah I think BG wins very comfortably. Somewhere along the lines of 49-7 sounds about right.
  24. Mac, you make a great point. I've been telling everyone (even on our radio show) that Madisonville from a talent standpoint is as impressive of a team as I've seen (including BG). Madisonville is a scary outfit and if they're clicking, I'm not sure anyone on this side of the state is gonna keep the Maroons from WKU in December. Obviously FS has a great team in their own right, and I fully expect the Wildcats to put up a heck of a fight this Friday. Shoot, I wouldn't be shocked if FS won, but the way the Maroons have been playing lately, I gotta roll with Madisonville.
