  1. As an OHS fan, I'll be keeping a close eye on this one. I do think Christian County will be much improved and they do have some dynamic skill guys. I'm just not quite sold that CC will make the jump that everyone is anticipating. I look for a deeper, more experienced BG team to win this one comfortably. I look for BG to pressure the QB and force him into some bad situations. If CC can't stop the run, it'll be a long night. Bowling Green 42 Christian County 14
  2. This is a big game for Daviess County. A lot was made in the offseason about "changing the mindset" and then in game #1 , DC nearly loses to a very mediocre ACS team. I do think DC has very talented skill guys who could give fits to many teams across the state. OCath meanwhile has their system in mid-season form. RZIII is on point and executes the offense about as well as a high school kid can. If OCath's defense can keep the potent DC offense at bay, I like OCath in a route. Owensboro Catholic 49 Daviess County 21
  3. I came away very impressed with the direction of Warren Central. The 29-7 score vs Owensboro is misleading, because the game was only 16-7 going into the 4th. I didn't see McCracken's game vs Tilghman, but I think many outside folks didn't expect to see Tilghman come out with a 2 TD win. If Warren Central can get good offensive and defensive line play this week, I really like the Dragons to get the W. WC has many good, quality athletes out there and I look for some of those guys to make some plays this week. WC will also have to key on Zaire Hughes, and make sure he doesn't go crazy. Warren Central 21 McCracken County 14
  4. Nonetheless, I like Warren Centrals scheme. They seems to have a plan and I love their athletic ability. The line and depth is the only real chink in the armor for WC. If the Dragons can shore up the offensive line, they'll be just fine. WC's defense is very fast. OHS just needs to continue to sharpen the saw. Gotta stay away from turnovers, senseless penalties, and dropped passes. Once OHS gets more reps in the new offense, I think they'll be fine.
  5. Congrats to OHS coach Jay Fallin for getting his 1st win! Warren Central played very hard and the Dragons have some very nice athletes. I think the Dragons looked very well coached and I think the WC program is headed in the right direction. OHS' defense was just nasty tonight. Vasaad Greer going to full time defense is great because he's most effective on the d-line. I'm a little concerned about the safeties, but so far so good. Offensively, OHS is a work in progress. The good news is, it appears Zach Gross is a heady qb. I like his calm demeanor and he doesn't throw a bad ball. OHS has weapons abound but I agree with ddevil that OHS will need to take some shots downfield when defenses stack the box. In fairness, Gross had two potential touchdowns dropped on deep balls. Also OHS needs to work on ball security and extra points. Gotta have those. All in all, it was a great first win for Jay Fallin. The entire OHS staff has worked hard and they will push this team to maximize their potential. Also can't fail to mention OHS rb Landon Board. Kid had 100 yards on 14 carries and was a pleasant surprise.
  6. The big seperation over the last 10-15 years between BG-OHS is at the varsity level. Typically BG and OHS split or its close at the lower levels (middle school, frosh, JV) but when it comes to Friday night, the Purples have been on another level. I think last year was an indication that the scales are getting closer at the varsity level and hopefully OHS can sustain that level of play to actually make it a rivalry again. Right now, it's just BG beating OHS year after year after year after year...........ughhghghg, lol.
  7. The 8th grade game was great. OMS broke out to a 30-14 lead but the Purples would not give up. Vito Tisdale backed up his all world reputation by putting the Purples on his back. Not only did Tisdale score touchdowns but it seems as though he made nearly every tackle for BG. The biggest surprise was the emergence of speedster Monte Owsley for OMS. Both teams traded big plays but in the end OMS held on for the win. This is just one of many classics that these two teams are sure to have in the future.
  8. Getting back to this game, I think Owensboro Catholic will put on a show in the first game of the season. I don't know a ton about Holy Cross, but I took a peak at their schedule from last year. While I think they're solid, OCath looked very crisp last weekend against Henderson. OCath should have the services of Shamari Morton, who is a threat to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. Typically all eyes are on the OCath offense, but my eyes will be on the defense. OCath is going to platoon this season with only one player (Weston Jacob) going both ways. If the OCath defense struggles against Holy Cross, it could create some doubt about this approach, and that Aces d will be tested the following weeks against Daviess County and Owensboro. We'll know by game 4 if the platoon system will work. If anyone can pull it off, it's John Edge. As for this game......... Owensboro Catholic 56 Holy Cross 14
  9. Brown, that's the word I've received as well. I noticed that they tend to put Vasaad on the outside of the d-line in the 3-4. Seems to me, that he could do more damage at the noseguard (ie Matt Elam). It would take a double team EVERY PLAY, possibly even a third blocker. That would free up a ton of space for the other guys on defense. With Greer at the defensive end spot, it's going to require him to run and pursue a lot more, which could wear him down. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I do agree that Vasaad doesn't need to play o-line unless it's absolutely necessary. Returning 9 of 11 starters from a state runner-up defense is quite the luxury for a first year coach. Can't wait to see the Jay Fallin era kick off on Friday!
  10. Dragon, thanks for the info! Warren Central has way too many quality athletes roaming the halls to be down for very long. All it's going to take is a solid coach and the Dragons will be a force to be reckoned with once again. As I previously stated, I think Friday's game will be a close, hard fought game, that will do nothing but benefit both teams.
  11. Last years game was nasty! That wind was brutal. I remember OHS punting the ball and it flying back 15 yards. I think this years game will be close and hard fought. If you base predictions on the scrimmages, it may be fair to say that Warren Central is the favorite. I heard the Dragons looked good versus Christian County and OHS not so much against Graves and Madisonville. I didn't get to see the scrimmage so my prediction will be solely based on the weapons OHS has coming back. Could be a classic. Owensboro 21 Warren Central 14
  12. Prayers for healing for his family in the name of Jesus.
  13. There is zero doubt that the path to WKU is going to run through BG. Literally, lol. And I wouldn't count out an explosive Christian County team with a emerging super star sophmore QB Kolbi Langhi. I totally respect all teams, because anyone can be had on a given night. Good luck to all. Except Highlands.
  14. Out of those 3 teams I'm taking............Owensboro. :sneaky:
  15. Justin Miller-Owensboro High School Justin with the ball in hand could do things that most footballs players simply can't. On the defensive side of the ball (where he played in the NFL), he was just as good. I've not seen a better all around football player with my own two eyes at the high school level. I did see Bush a couple times and he was amazing. The seperation between Bush and Milller, for me, is the all around play.
  16. As an Owensboro guy, it's Bowling Green and Highlands. BG has been a long time rival and Highlands has beaten us in 3 state championship games.
  17. OCath-Contender. Now, having said that, it's gong to be next to impossible for them to win state. Any team that puts them out will have to earn it. Mayfield is going to be rough and that's if they can get past Murray. Owensboro-Contender. The Devils have a ton of talent back and there are a few unknowns for OHS. If Jay Fallin is a good hire and OHS finds a qb, look out. BG will be a massive road block but OHS takes on the purps in the regular season. If OHS can make it back they'll have the speed advantage on highlands again. Hopefully this time OHS will not forget to the the guys in space and burn them birds for 4 quarters.
  18. Of course I'm biased, but gimmie Rash Stadium all day, every day. I love the old-school feel and the fact that there's no track around the stadium. You're literally right on top of the action on either side. Last year, the school installed end zone seats which is where the OHS students and band sit. There are concessions on both sides of the stadium. The only thing really lacking is enough bathrooms, but other than that, it's great. The field turf that was installed in 2006 has held up great. Only OHS football games are played on it which helps the longevity of the turf. Rash Stadium has seen it's share of great games over the years and is sure to see many more. 19. I think the list is pretty spot on. I'd take Boyle off and put in either Paducah Tilghman, Danville, Beechwood, Male, BG, or Owensboro. The key word is "iconic". In wrestling terms you think Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair, Andre the Giant, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Success over decades for me gives a team iconic status. As for my Devils, they only have 4 state football titles, but have had several runner ups (damn Highlands lol) and have produced numerous college athletes as well as a few NFL guys. For a school that's confined to about 10 square miles, OHS has done extremely well. OHS is also in the top 50 nationally in all time wins as is a few of the schools I mentioned. Good work, and these types of discussions are always fun.
  20. Anyone know if Connor Wilson from Ohio County is going to Apollo?
  21. I love summer basketball and AAU baskeball. I'm just for kids having as many opportunities as possible. I don't see the reason for them not to. No jealousy, just wondering why kids aren't given valuable opportunities for reps. Carry on. :thumb:
  22. I see what you're saying and I agree to an extent. However, the cream will rise to the top and most coaches are going to play their best players regardless. Keep in mind, high school coaches are paid and if they don't win most schools will find someone else to coach their team. Most coaches are going to play their best players, even if they're mulit-sport athletes.
  23. My question for the KHSAA is: Why do kids have to choose at all? Let summer basketball and 7on7's go at the same time. Most schools share athletes but the odds of having games fall on the same time and date are minimal. Hard core basketball kids will play summer basketball and the kids that are locked in to football will go to 7on7s. The inbetween kids will work it out. I favor giving kids more opportunities, not limiting them.
  24. It's not a trade off. July is a time where teams are starting to go full throttle into pre-season practice for football. Position specific techniques and drills take so much time as does installing offenses and defensive schemes. July is a terrible time for teams to try and squeeze in 7on7s. There are so many opportunities for kids to play basketball outside of the realm of school ball during the summer. There is NO REASON for the KHSAA to not allow 7on7's during June. The rest of the south does it, yet Kentucky can't? It just makes no sense. Don't get me wrong, I love the roundball (I watched OHS win state this year) but Kentucky high school football coaches are being handcuffed by this rule. Football is a sport that takes a ton of reps, and getting that timing down early on gives players a chance to develop. I just don't see a valid reason for not allowing 7on7's in June.
  25. It's absurd that the KHSAA allows June basketball yet bans 7on7 football.
