OC 42-28

OC has only 1 game they can lose - @ Owensboro.

If everyone stays healthy, OC has a great team and can do tremendous damage.

....and if OHS has a hard time finding its identity early on(new coach, new QB), the Aces may not lose a game in the regular season. Could be a fun ride at Owensboro Catholic this year.

good question about the D.

I think OCath makes it to the second game of the playoffs when they likely go to Murray. Not sayin they cant win that game but we'll have to see how things are going then to judge that game. They will have a great likely record breaking season.

They lost some on the defensive side of the ball. Reed at LB will be hard to replace but they do return tackling machine John Mark Boarman. When I interviewed coach Edge a few weeks ago he said the Aces were going to try to only run 1 kid both ways(Weston Jacob WR/S). We'll see how that pans out as we get into the season.

Where did Devereaux Reed end up going to college? I had him in little league for a few years before they made the move to Owensboro. Nobody could touch that kid when he was playing little league RB. Wish I had a chance to see him play LB in high school.

Wish I could see this one. I'll be at the T vs Ensworth game but wishing both teams the best of luck.

OC is solid - but not much on the schedule besides OHS, that was my point. It's not their fault their district stinks but I would have played someone better than North Hardin or LHC even if that meant a loss. OC has some athletes (Boarman, Zueber, Morton) and I think they'll make some noise. OC could beat OHS - although that would be a HUGE win for them.

OHS returns a ton of size and speed. Although you're right, replacing the QB is a tall order. I would think if the QB returned they would be ranked #1 . But the O-line is huge, I heard Greer is Full-time on the D-line (is that right?). I liked Greer and Williams blocking on the O-line together. OHS has James, Barrett, Walker, Board, Gardner - tons of athletes. I look for the D to be much improved. As always great special teams (same for catholic with Morton). We'll know more after the Warren Central and Madisonville games.

Getting back to this game, I think Owensboro Catholic will put on a show in the first game of the season. I don't know a ton about Holy Cross, but I took a peak at their schedule from last year. While I think they're solid, OCath looked very crisp last weekend against Henderson. OCath should have the services of Shamari Morton, who is a threat to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. Typically all eyes are on the OCath offense, but my eyes will be on the defense. OCath is going to platoon this season with only one player (Weston Jacob) going both ways. If the OCath defense struggles against Holy Cross, it could create some doubt about this approach, and that Aces d will be tested the following weeks against Daviess County and Owensboro. We'll know by game 4 if the platoon system will work. If anyone can pull it off, it's John Edge. As for this game.........

I was told Holy Cross plays press man.

Defensively Catholic will be on the field a lot. It's the style of offense. Any football fan or coach knows if you have a spread offense. You either score quick and often or it's one of those nights your struggling. One thing you have to look at. Is Catholic's D is not bad. If their O turns it over 5 times and the other team doesn't and Catholic wins by 7 pts. That means Catholic's D came through. IF you go back to ANY catholic game vs. Murray. It was all but one game I would have to blame the Offense. In 2012 they only had 7 possessions. The rest of the years the Offense turns the ball over 5-6 times and the game goes in to OT or comes down to 7pts. Heck, one year Murray's D scored 21 pts, no their O. I would have to say if their O helps their D then Catholic's D will be in the eyes of a average fan will be good.

If OC's offense doesn't turn the ball over then Catholic's D will be good. If they turn it over a bunch, which you do in a spread every now and then in the eyes of an average fan they won't be good.

They only gave up 7pts in the last 4 years vs. Henderson Co. a 6-A school.

If they play Murray in the 2nd round then it will be in Owensboro. Who knows? It might be Mayfield vs. OC in the 2nd round. Murray could beat Mayfield in the regular season.

All good points Rambo! I like OCs team this year. Think they can go a long way.

I think OC is really out to prove something this year. This is as much positive chatter as I have heard about this team in a few years. I do expect a great effort from the Aces this week and I think they get a big win.
