Vic and Briggs do an excellent job. Hard to find a better 1-2 punch on the play and color. That said, Dan and Dave are really good as well and their production is phenomenal. I was just being silly. At the end of the day, the kids in our area are being covered to the max and that is the most important thing.

For Apollo to have a shot, they are going to have to tackle well and limit the game breaking plays from Owensboro. That's going to be a lot easier said than done. I think Coach Edge will have a solid game plan, as usual, I am just not sure the Eagles defense can slow them down. If they can't that puts a ton of pressure on the offense to keep pace against a defense that is being severely underrated lately. I think Apollo shows well tonight but just too much Devils. 42-21.

Congrats to Owensboro and to Coach Franklin. He has a nice resume, with a ton of success in coaching Women's basketball at the Juco level, including a national championship. Feels like this is another solid hire by Todd Harper and the Red Devils.

What are some of the biggest offseason topics for the 3rd this spring/summer? -Grayson County making another deep run at Rupp. -Which programs have the best chance to challenge the Cougars in 2027? -Who gets the Muhlenberg County and Owensboro jobs?

I'm going to disagree with the Barker take. He was upset a few times with great talent (Meade in 2015 preventing the OHS regional title rematch and 2017 against DC in the first round), but that 2018 team did not really come together until late in the season with Shelton and Graham. If you look at the talent that played under him at Apollo, several kids went on to thrive at the next level and many are coaching other places. He left a great mark in a short run at Apollo. He was royalty for Apollo, but they ran him out of there. If you ask me, that is still a big black eye on the program. With the right staff under him, he would be a great hire for any program. The old school guys just don't get love anymore.

I have zero inside knowledge on this, but I keep hearing Tim Haworth is a name to watch. I have no idea if he would leave Male but his name has been floating around Owensboro the past few years. Would be a grand slam for the Devils. I've heard former Apollo Eagles Hayden Shelton and Tyler Brown would be interested. I know Coach Steve Barker would have interest as well. I have been told that AD Harper is going to give an update on the Coach search at the end of the Red Devil rundown Thursday night at 6 central on WVJS.

Grayson County comes in to the Sweet 16 playing their best basketball of the season. The Cougars struggled in the King of the Bluegrass back in December, going 0-3. Since that time, they are 22-2 with close road losses at Lyon County and Warren Central. They have 5 guys in the starting lineup that could lead them in scoring any given night. WKY commit Jack Logsdon leads the way with 20.2 points per game. Jack also leads the team in rebounding at 6.4 boards per game. Armstrong and Langdon are also great rebounders for Grayson. Armstrong, Mardis and Langdon are all averaging double figures scoring and all had their big tournament moments. Langdon led the team in scoring in the regional title game, Armstrong won our tournament MVP and Mardis hit the big shot that took down Daviess County. Caden Gaither has settled in to his role nicely, and had some big games down the stretch. While Grayson County isn't very deep, Chase Baunach is a spark plug off the bench. He played very well when Armstrong battled foul trouble against Daviess. Grayson can really shoot the ball. They are shooting it 50% from the field without a true post player. All 5 starters can really pass the ball and have done a great job with shot selection late in the season. If they can continue that shooting at Rupp, they are a dark horse team to make a run. It would not surprise me to see the Cougars playing on Saturday morning. Keep in mind, it has been 11 years since the 3rd Region has won a game at Rupp.

Congrats to Grayson County. They have a special group of kids that really came together in the back half of the season. They certainly have the makeup to make a run at Rupp. If they are knocking down shots, the can beat anyone. The last time Grayson County went to state was 2009. Coach Travis Johnston was a player on that team. Pretty cool full circle moment.

Well, that Grayson County - Daviess County game sure lived up to the hype. It played out very similar to the regular season meeting (aside from Armstrong's foul trouble). All controversy aside, I thought it looked like Grayson County was simply the better team. Moss almost made them pay for leaving the door cracked open, but give Grayson credit. They hit the big shot when they had to. They will advance to take on Meade County. Ayden Medley's put back at the buzzer took down Apollo. Give Hayden Shouse a ton of credit for putting the team on his back when they looked finished mid way through the 4th. It felt like Apollo was the more talented team, but much like the regular season, they just couldn't put it all together. Felt like they slowed the tempo in and kept the game closer than it should have been early on. Then, when they finally got a double digit lead, they decided to let Meade County speed them up and ended up giving the game away. The Eagles will be back next year, only losing Kayden Green off a very good roster. Grayson and Meade did not play during the regular season. If Grayson shows up and plays the way they have thus far in the postseason, I am not sure this one will be very close. Give Meade credit on getting to this point, but it would be a massive upset if Grayson doesn't advance to Rupp.

Because it doesn't matter what you have done prior to this game, you still must show up and play one great game to advance. Grayson has played the better basketball down the stretch, no doubt, but this is a different stage. I expect the Cougars to be game. Gaither has really emerged late in the season. Armstrong is a dude. Langdon and Mardis are both capable of scoring 30. Then you have Jack Logsdon, who should be talked about in the same breath as Moss and Watkins. He put on a show in this matchup last year, just ran out of gas in the 4th. I'm a big fan of Grayson. They have all of the pieces. We'll see if they can take it on Saturday. I thought it was a good idea to do split sessions. Grayson and Daviess could possibly sell the venue out, on their own. Would have been tough to get Meade and Apollo fans in there with that crowd. Should be less of a log jam for everyone. Last note, Congrats to Coach Ryne Tinsley and Apollo. That program was at rock bottom when Tinsley took that job. Hats off to the staff and kids for bringing it back to where it belongs. It's been 8 years since Apollo had a 20 game winner and a team playing for a shot at the regional championship. Love to see it!

He was the difference in game 1. Grayson is the better team 1-5 but the Moss and Watkins factor is still looming. Grayson looks more locked in lately, but none of that matters come Saturday. Should be a classic! Wanted to make sure everyone is aware that they moved the game to 4PM and the semifinals will now be a split session to make sure everyone can get in and out for both games (plus it adds a ton of revenue for the schools).

All season we have been discussing where Daviess and Grayson would land in the bracket draw. On Saturday morning, we learned they would each be on the same side of the bracket setting up a potential showdown in the regional semifinals. This opens the bottom half of the bracket for someone to make a run to the regional final and avoid having to pull 2 upsets to get to Rupp. Ohio County, Apollo and Meade County will be favored to be that team. That should make for very competitive games and great storylines throughout the tournament this week. 1. Daviess County Panthers (24-6) The Panthers had a strong showing in the 9th district tournament. They held off upset minded Owensboro on Tuesday and blew out county rival Apollo on Friday. DeAaron Watkins led the team in both games with 20 points and 12 rebounds against Owensboro. He followed that up with 21 points and 11 rebounds against Apollo. Michael Acton also stepped forward, scoring 16 and 18 in the 2 wins. When teams attempt to take the ball out of Jonathan Moss’s hands and his teammates step forward, Daviess County goes from a good team to a great team. Several have asked if they can win the Sweet 16. When DeAaron Watkins is locked in, Acton is getting downhill, Ratcliff and Randolph are knocking down open 3’s… they absolutely can win the whole thing. 2. Grayson County Cougars (22-6) The Cougars left no doubt in their 2 district wins last week, beating Butler County by 50 and Whitesville Trinity by 18. Jagger Mardis led the team with 21 against Butler, while Brody Armstrong poured in 32 against Trinity. Grayson County is hitting on all cylinders heading to the Sportscenter this week. They have the most talented team 1-5 and hold a regular season win at Daviess County. Expect all of Leitchfield to make the trip to Owensboro this week. 3. Ohio County Eagles (23-6) While the Eagles had an up and down final week of the regular season, they left no doubt in the 10th district championship game, beating Muhlenberg by 25. Ohio closed the regular season with a 19 point win over a good Edmonson County team. Alex Quisenberry and Max Holsclaw combined to knock down 11 3’s in that win. When the Eagles are shooting it well from the outside, they can compete against anyone. 4. Apollo Eagles (19-9) Apollo will be making their first trip to the regional tournament in 8 years after taking down Owensboro Catholic on Wednesday. Kayden Green and Carlos Cruz played great 2-man basketball to lead Apollo in the first half and Eli Williams hit some monster 3’s to hold off a furious 2nd half run from Owensboro Catholic. The Eagles were dominated by Daviess County on Friday. The good news for the Eagles is they will be on the opposite side of the bracket from the Panthers this week. 5. Meade County Greenwave (19-9) The Waves come into the regional having won 10 of their last 12 games. Hayden Shouse led team to the district title with 28 points and 10 rebounds. The Waves took down Breck by 21. Shouse and Medley will enter the tournament as 2 of the region’s top 5 scorers. 6. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (16-13) The Mustangs got a hard fought win over Mclean County on Tuesday to advance to the regional tournament. Gavin Groves led the team with 21. They couldn’t follow that up against Ohio on Friday, falling 58-33. The Mustangs went 3-20 from long range and only shot 26% from the field in the loss. They will be looking to play the spoiler on Wednesday. 7. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (17-15) The Raiders kept their season alive on Tuesday, beating Edmonson County, 75-64. Mason Smith poured in 27 to lead all scorers. Cale Boarman added 20. He was 12 of 14 from the free throw line. Trinity battled Grayson on Friday, before falling 85-67. 8. Breckinridge County Tigers (12-18) The Tigers outlasted Hancock County on Tuesday to advance to the regional tournament. Freshman Benjamin Grimes led the way scoring 15. Ryan Nottingham and 7th grader, Boaz Grimes each scored 14. They couldn’t sustain that success on Friday, falling to Meade in the district championship. WEDNESDAY – Daviess Co v Breck Co Daviess County comes in heavy favorites in the tournament opener. They defeated Breck 74-33 in early January. Jonathan Moss scored 25 in the win and Michael Acton added 21. The Tigers hope they can catch the Panthers looking ahead to a potential semifinal matchup against Grayson County. Grayson Co v Muhlenberg Co Grayson County will be viewed as a heavy favorite in this match-up but will need to keep their focus on the Mustangs instead of looking ahead to Saturday. The Cougars handled the Mustangs 98-74 in early January. Jack Logsdon scored 27 and Brody Armstrong had 24 in that win. Gavin Groves and Kason Morris each scored in the 20’s in defeat. The Mustangs played well but simply could not score enough to keep it close. Expect the Muhlenberg to try to control the tempo and keep the score in the 60’s or 70’s to have a shot. THURSDAY – Meade Co v Whitesville Trinity These two teams did not play in the regular season. Both will enter the contest playing their best basketball of the season. For the Waves. Hayden Shouse enters the tournament as the 2nd leading scorer in the region at 22.4 points per game. He is also sitting at 9 rebounds per game. Ayden Medley is also a top 5 scorer in the region, at 18.5 points per game. The Raiders have a handful of guys who can really score it. They are led by Harrsion Barnett at 14.8 points per game. Mason Smith and Ian Roby both enter the tournament averaging double figures scoring on the season. Cale Boarman scored in the 20’s in both district games last week. This game will be won by who brings the best defensive and rebounding effort. Ohio Co v Apollo The battle of the Eagles is the marquee first round match-up. Ohio outlasted Apollo 61-48 in their regular season meeting. While that game took place back before Christmas, it showed that Apollo will need a different approach to beat Ohio County on Thursday. Ohio is led by All-Region guard, Ryan Durham. He comes into the tournament averaging 20.7 points per game. Durham had 27 in the first meeting between these two. Apollo enters the game with 4 players scoring double figures. Landon Henning, Tate Powers, Carlos Cruz and Kayden Green are all capable of big performances. Throw Eli Williams in there as well, as he hit some big shots to help Apollo defeat Catholic last week. Ohio County shot 27 3’s per game during the regular season. They knock them down at a 38.6% clip. Apollo will need to defend the perimeter to have a shot. On the other side, Ohio will need to find an answer for Landon Henning. Henning will have a big size advantage against anyone Ohio throws at him. Henning is pulling 14 boards per game and closes the paint defensively. Whoever can dictate their style to the other will have the advantage on Thursday.

I would expect the candidates to line up for this job. Owensboro should be a premier job in Kentucky. Reminds me of the football job. With the right hire, the Devils should be a regional title contender nearly every season. Will be a fun one to follow.

Even with the loss to Grayson County to close the season, I left Daviess County at #1. It felt like their overall resume was better than Grayson's. Realistically, they could be 1A and 1B at this point, especially with Grayson County holding a win over the Panthers on their home court. That said, if the 2 hook up again sometime in the next week or so, I would still slightly favor the Panthers. I am sure no one will disagree with my humble opinion.?

1. Daviess County Panthers (23-5) – SAME - Losses (68-64 Grayson Co) The Panthers closed their season with a tough home loss against Grayson County. If you look at the early season results vs the results over the past few weeks, it is obvious that they have not been the same team. Will the loss against Grayson at home wake them up or is this going to be a team that peaked too early? 2. Grayson County Cougars (20-6) – SAME - Wins (68-64 Daviess Co & 88-44 Hancock Co) Grayson County put together a masterful second half effort at Daviess County on Tuesday to beat the Panthers on their home floor. This is their 3rd straight regular season win over Daviess. Brody Armstrong was the difference maker, taking his game to a new level. Jack Logsdon led the team in both wins this week with 19 and 23. 3. Apollo Eagles (18-8) – UP 2 – Wins (83-67 Central Hardin & 67-61 Webster Co) Apollo stabilized things this week and finished with 2 solid wins. The Eagles move up this week on their potential alone. Their starting 5 is as talented as anyone in the region but the consistency just has not came together for this group. If everything clicks, lookout for the Eagles over the next few weeks. Everything hinges on their game against Catholic on Wednesday. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (16-11) – UP 2 - Wins (61-50 Ohio Co, 68-34 Madisonville & 67-50 University Heights) The Aces closed the season playing their best basketball of the season. They put together 4 impressive games in a row to build toward a showdown with Apollo on Wednesday. 5. Ohio County Eagles (22-6) – DOWN 2 – Wins (77-45 Hancock Co & 71-52 Edmonson Co) & Losses (61-50 Owensboro Catholic & 55-52 Russellville) While the Eagles are already in the 3rd Region tournament, they didn’t exactly finish the season on a strong note with losses to Owensboro Catholic and Russellville. They did close the season with a nice 19 point win over Edmonson County. Ryan Durham put together a great season, finishing top 3 in the region in scoring with 21 points per game. 6. Meade County Greenwave (17-9) – UP 1 - Wins (65-52 North Bullitt) & Losses (Central Hardin 76-71) The Waves finished the season winning 8 of their last 10 games but the 2 losses were to the 2 toughest opponents. They have all but punched their ticket to the regional tournament but will need more consistency from their supporting cast to make a run in the tournament. 7. Edmonson County Wildcats (15-8) – DOWN 3 – Losses (59-40 Clinton Co & 71-52 Ohio Co) Edmonson faded a bit to close their regular season, losing 4 of 5. Before that stretch they had won 8 of 9. Which team is the real version of the Wildcats? Senior Tyler Wilson led the team with 16.5 points per game. 8. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-12) - SAME – Losses (68-58 Henderson Co & 82-71 Bowling Green) The Mustangs may have finished their season with 2 losses but they competed against 2 very good teams in Henderson and Bowling Green. We will find out if that has them better prepared when they take on Mclean on Tuesday. Gavin Groves closed the regular season as the teams leading scorer at 16.7 points per game. 9. Mclean County Cougars (17-12) – SAME – Wins (54-44 Butler Co) & Losses (69-36 South Warren) It has been an up and down season for the Cougars and it all comes down to their matchup against Muhlenberg County on Tuesday night. Layden Bozarth finishes the season as the teams leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. 10. Owensboro Red Devils (4-20) - SAME –Wins (75-59 Whitesville Trinity) & Losses (54-51 Christian County & 66-54 Henderson County) The Devils are playing much better over the past few weeks, but 4 wins may be an all-time low for this storied basketball program. They will have a tall task against the Daviess County Panthers on Tuesday. 11. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (16-14) – UP 1 – Wins (82.79 Breck County) & Loses (75-59 Owensboro) Haririson Barnett and the Raiders closed the season with some good showings. Barnett raised his season average to 14.9 points per game. The Raiders will try to play spoiler against Edmonson County on Tuesday. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (11-17) – DOWN 1 – Wins (86-73 Hancock Co) & Losses (82-79 Whitesville Trinity) It has been a bit of a rebuilding season for Breck but the Tigers still have a great shot to make it into the regional tournament next week. Jake Flood finished the season as the teams leading scorer at 13.8 points per game. 13. Hancock County Hornets (10-16) – SAME – Losses (77-45 Ohio Co, 76-73 Breck Co & 88-44 Grayson Co) The Hornets have really struggled since Christmas break and are fighting an injury to Keegan Wilson heading into district. Wilson put together a great junior season, leading the team with 15.2 points per game. 14. Butler County Bears (1-25) – SAME – Losses (58-57 Madisonville, 54-44 Mclean Co & 59-45 Hart Co) The Bears just could not find that second win on the season, dropping 3 more competitive games this past week. Curtis Murphy closed his senior season scoring 17 per game. Butler will enter the district as massive underdogs to Grayson County. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-17) - SAME – Losses (68-27 Canelton, IN, Russellville Raiders 57-36 & Francis Parker 64-28) TOP FIVE SCORERS (as of 2/22 on KHSAA Scoreboard) 1.Jonathan Moss – Daviess County – 24.2 2.Hayden Shouse – Meade County – 22.6 3.Ryan Durham – Ohio County – 21 4.Jack Logsdon – Grayson County – 20.6 5.Ayden Medley – Meade County – 18.9 DOUBLE DIGIT REBOUNDERS (as of 2/22 on KHSAA Scoreboard) 1.Landon Henning – Apollo – 13.6 2.DeAaron Watkins – Daviess County – 10.1 DISTRICT MATCHUPS 9th District – at Daviess County – 1. Daviess County vs 4. Owensboro Daviess County comes in as the overwhelming favorite, having beaten Owensboro 72-42 and 75-47 in the two meetings this season. While Owensboro has been playing better, it would take one of the biggest upsets in 9th district history to pull off a shocker. 2. Apollo vs 3. Owensboro Catholic The Eagles and Aces split regular season matchups, as each won on their home floor. Apollo won 57-54 in the first meeting and the Aces took a 59-47 win in the second. Both teams use a balanced attack but this could come down to which teams stars are more involved. Dremail Carothers has a chance to be the best player on the floor and showed what his capable of in the loss to Daviess County a few weeks ago. He will need help from Solly Smith, Jake Murphy and the Aces supporting cast. Apollo is led by big man, Landon Henning. Not only does Henning lead the team in scoring and rebounding, he also alters a ton of shots at the rim. Apollo will want him to close the paint defensively and get the inside out game going with him and Tate Powers. Foul trouble has been an issue for Henning in both meetings. If the Eagles can keep him clean, they should have the slight advantage in this game. Apollo has not reached the regional tournament since 2018 while Owensboro Catholic never lost a district elimination game under Tim Riley. They have won 10 straight in this situation. This should be the marquee game of the first round. 10th District – at Mclean County – 1. Ohio Co (Bye) – 2.Mclean Co vs 3. Muhlenberg Co The Cougars and Mustangs split the regular season games this season with each team winning on their home floor. Muhlenberg won the first meeting back in week 2 of the season, 57-40. Mclean got the second meeting on January 23rd, 47-42. The Cougars would prefer a low scoring contest while the Mustangs would like to get the game into the 60’s. Both teams have been up and down over the final few weeks of the season, but Muhlenberg has played much tougher competition as of late. Layden Bozarth, Camden Baird and Jaelin Groves all score in double figures for the Cougars while Gavin Groves and Kason Morris have been double figure scorers for the Mustangs this season. Look for Issac Coats and Ivan Sparks to be the X factors. Both are capable of big games, especially Sparks on the boards. 11th District – at Breck County – 1. Meade Co vs 4. Cloverport Meade has dominated the regular season games. Expect the same on Tuesday. 2. Breck County vs 3. Hancock County The Fighting Tigers won both regular season matchups by double digits. While district tournament games can be a different animal, if Keegan Wilson can’t go for Hancock, it will be extra tough. The Tigers are led by Jake Flood at 13.8 points per game but have gotten big performances out of Ryan Nottingham and Benjamin Grimes down the stretch. 12th District – at Butler County – 1.Grayson Co vs 4. Butler Co Grayson County dominated the regular season games, winning by 31 and 28. They will look to get their postseason off to a clean start on Tuesday. 2.Edmonson Co vs 3. Whitesville Trinity Edmonson swept the regular season series but the 2 games were very different. The Cats won the first by only 5 points, 76-71. In the second matchup, the Cats dominated, winning 73-56. The Raiders will need to be able to consistently score the ball to have a shot. Harrison Barnett has been tough over the past few weeks, scoring into the high 20’s in a couple outings. Edmonson is powered by senior guard, Tyler Wilson. Wilson is scoring 16.5 points per game. Brayden Wright and Blane Dewesse both had big games against the Raiders this season. The Wildcats are the favorites, but Trinity will have a punchers chance on the neutral floor at Butler County.

Daviess County CAN win the Sweet 16 if everything clicks. They have not been the same team the last few weeks but have shown the ability earlier in the season. I am not sure how banged up Acton is. That certainly effects them because the depth just isn't there. Other than that, they just need to make sure they are getting Watkins involved. In the game against Grayson, there were long stretches where he didn't even touch the ball. You know Moss is going to give you 20-30 in a big game. The question for me is will anyone step up around him?

It looked like DC struggled to guard all 5 spots last night and the role players from Grayson out played the role players from DC. That said, you can throw all of that out the window when these 2 play again in a few weeks.

I think they are still figuring it out themselves. After losing Coach Riley and their go to guy in Beickman, it has taken most of the season to carve out new roles with Coach Shadowen. It looks like the light is coming on and they are gaining confidence. Their length is underrated. That first round Apollo game will be a good one!

We have reached the final week of the regular season and best head to head match-up will take place at Daviess County on Tuesday as the Panthers host Grayson County. Daviess has not lost to a team from Kentucky so far this season and Grayson will seeking some momentum heading into the postseason. You can expect a tournament atmosphere in Panther Arena on Tuesday. Owensboro Catholic travels to Ohio County tonight in what should be a very good match-up. Edmonson County continues to be a surprise team in the region but will face great competition this week with Clinton County and Ohio County to close their regular season. Most people will look to tournament time next week but there will be some interesting results before we get there. 1. Daviess County Panthers (23-4) – SAME - Wins (64-28 Mclean, 62-57 Owensboro Catholic & 78-51 Logan Co) Daviess County stayed unbeaten against Kentucky programs this week, including Friday night against Owensboro Catholic. It was an incredible 9th district game that saw Jon Moss and Dre Carothers trading buckets late. In the end, Moss was too much for Catholic and the Panthers moved to 6-0 in district play. He scored 32 in the win. On Saturday, Watkins had 25 to lead the way against Logan County. The Panthers close with what could be a regional championship preview at home against Grayson County. 2. Grayson County Cougars (18-6) – SAME - Wins (87-59 Butler Co & 74-59 South Warren) & Losses (46-41 Warren Central) The Cougars dropped their second straight to Warren Central on Tuesday but bounced back with a district win and blowout win over a good South Warren team. Jack Logsdon struggled against the Dragons but scored 22 and 21 in bounce back performances. Grayson travels to Daviess County in a tournament preview on Tuesday before closing the season at Hancock on Friday. 3. Ohio County Eagles (20-4) - SAME – Wins (73-46 South Warren, 69-61 South Spencer, IN & 69-48 Owensboro) The Eagles had a strong week, going 3-0. Ryan Durham has upped his season average to 20.6 ppg. He led the team with 26 against South Warren and 22 against South Spencer. Ohio has already punched their ticket to the regional tournament with a bye in the 10th district, so they will close their season with a packed schedule. They host Owensboro Catholic tonight, before closing with Hancock, Russellville and Edmonson County this week. 4. Edmonson County Wildcats (15-6) – UP 1 – Wins (63-59 Hart Co & 60-59 Borden, IN) & Losses (78-68 Caverna) The Cats have won 5 of 6 and competed very well against Caverna on Thursday. Tyler Wilson scored 22 in defeat. On Friday, Wilson hit the game winner to lift Edmsonson over Borden Indiana. Wilson is scoring 17.1 per game on the season. Coach Meredith has put himself right near the top of the Coach of the year conversation with the job he has done since taking over this program. The Wildcats have a pair of road games to close the season at Clinton County and Ohio County. 5. Apollo Eagles (16-6) – DOWN 1 –Losses (59-47 Owensboro Catholic & 72-68 Bowling Green) Apollo is trending the wrong direction heading toward tournament time. They have lost 3 straight games. Landon Henning leads the team with 13.5 points and 13.4 rebounds per game. The Eagles will look to build some momentum for Owensboro Catholic next week with road games at Central Hardin and Webster County to close the season. 6. Owensboro Catholic Aces (13-11) – UP 2 - Wins (59-47 Apollo) & Losses (57-55 Breck Co & 62-57 Daviess County) The Aces stayed streaky this week, but closed the week with a great showing at Daviess County. Dre Carothers busted out with 29 points as the Aces looked like a different team than we have seen all season, even in defeat. They did score a win over Apollo ahead of next weeks district tournament. Jake Murphy scored 18 in that one. The margin between Meade and Catholic for 5 and 6 came down to the head to head match up between them earlier this season. The Aces close at Ohio tonight, against Madisonville tomorrow and at University Heights on Friday. 7. Meade County Greenwave (16-8) – DOWN 1 - Wins (57-46 Valley) & Losses (62-53 S Warren) The Waves 7 game win streak came to an end at the hands of South Warren on Saturday. Earlier in the week, they defeated Valley. Aiden Medley led the team with 25 with Hayden Shouse scored a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. They travel to Central Hardin on Tuesday before closing the season at North Bullitt. 8. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-10) - DOWN 1 – Wins (67-61 Whitesville Trinity & 69-51 Madisonville) & Losses (74-65 Christian Co) The Mustangs sandwiched 2 wins between a loss to Christian County. In the win over Trinity, Gavin Groves scored 18 while Gavin Noffsinger and River Woodruff reached double figures. Muhlenberg closes with a tough pair of games at Henderson tonight before hosting Bowling Green on Friday. 9. Mclean County Cougars (16-11) – DOWN 1 – Wins (75-10 Cloverport & 62-59 Christian Fellowship) & Losses (64-28 Daviess Co & 64-61 Union Co) The Cougars continued their up and down season this week. Layden Bozarth leads the team with 14.2 points per game while Camden Baird is also in double figures at 12.3. Mclean closes their season at Butler County on Tuesday. 10. Owensboro Red Devils (3-18) - SAME –Losses (68-62 Central Hardin, 69-48 Ohio Co & 67-57 Harrison, IN) The Devils dropped 3 games this week against very good competition. They are playing much better than the first half of the year but will have to face a very good Daviess County team in district play. Demarcus Ganaway scored 22 in the loss to Central Hardin. Owensboro travels to Christian County tonight before closing with games against Whitesville Trinity and Henderson this week. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (10-16) – UP 1 – Wins (81-77 Butler Co & 57-55 Owensboro Catholic) & Losses (68-54 Castle, IN) The Fighting Tigers scored a nice win over Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday. Ryan Nottingham scored 15 in that win and scored 20 in the win over Butler. Breck closes this season with 3 road games against Trinity, Hancock and DeSales. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (14-12) – DOWN 2 – Wins (71-55 Foundation Christian) & Loses (67-61 Muhlenberg Co) The Raiders have dropped 3 of their last 4 but closed the week with a win over Foundation Christian. Harrison Barnett leads the team with 14.5 points per game. They will host Breck tonight before closing the season at home against Owensboro Wednesday. 13. Hancock County Hornets (10-13) – SAME – Wins (80-29 Cloverport) The Hornets have been battling illness late in the season that has caused some game cancelations. Cooper Jones scored 26 in the win over Cloverport this week. They will close the season with games against Breck, Newcomer Academy and Grayson County this week. 14. Butler County Bears (1-22) – SAME – Losses (81-77 Breck & 87-59 Grayson Co) The Bears have become much more competitive over the past few weeks. Unfortunately for them, it is not paying off in the win column. Curtis Murphy is having a great season, scoring 17.6 points per game but it is getting overshadowed by the win-loss record. The Bears have 5 games scheduled this week against Madisonville, Mclean, Central Hardin, Hart and Russell County. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-14) - SAME – Losses (80-29 Hancock Co & 75-10 Mclean Co)

Apologies @Ordell, I think we actually agree on the talent aspect after re-reading your post. Be tough to get to DC or Grayson this season. However, it would be interesting if the middle school talent stayed together and Acton stayed in the program. I think you would see Owensboro right there with anyone.

I have nothing but respect for Coach Drake. He is a Red Devil legend and has took that program to a state title. I just think sometimes a program needs fresh energy breathed into it. Reminds me of what just happened with Harbaugh and Tomlin (Cowher before him). I will disagree that there is not much talent walking the halls. There may not be enough to win the region this year BUT there is certainly enough to garner more than 3 wins. Owensboro should NEVER be that down. Especially when you look at the success of the middle school program. Over the past 3-4 years(maybe even 5-6 years), the majority of that talent doesn't make it to the varsity level. Up until the past few seasons it would be absurd for Owensboro to loose basketball talent to Daviess County, but that is where we are at. It will be interesting to see how the program moves forward this offseason.
