3rd Region Off-Season Discussion (2026-2027)

Featured Replies

What are some of the biggest offseason topics for the 3rd this spring/summer?

-Grayson County making another deep run at Rupp.

-Which programs have the best chance to challenge the Cougars in 2027?

-Who gets the Muhlenberg County and Owensboro jobs?

Grayson will make another run. I would say DC is out. Owensboro might depending on the hire. Apollo can be the team, but I'm not sure if they can. Owensboro Catholic, I'm hearing that DreMail Carothers is not playing basketball next year.

Ohio County will be pretty good, not as good as last year.

Meade County will be in the mix. They return 4 starters. They lose Shouse who averaged 22 pts a game.

I would say right now on paper: Grayson vs. Apollo. I think this can change if Owensboro makes  great hire.

Apollo should be in contention. They only lose one senior. Williams, Henning, Powers, Cruz, and Haskins will all be poised for big senior years. The only concern that I have is how much depth will they bring?

This region will be Grayson County and everyone else. Also, you can kiss Meade goodbye as they will be heading to the 5th region.

In terms of the Muhlenberg job

Colin Doss- Murray Head Coach

Steve Barker-3rd Region Legend current Ohio County Assistant

Logan Patterson-McLean County head assistant

Kyle Eades- Former Muhlenberg County Head Coach

all names I’ve heard are either interested or have applied for this job!

Why did Eades quit coaching there?

To my understanding it was to spend more time with his family! I don’t think he will be the hire though!

Looks like another 3rd region job is open now in Breck County! Look for Brad Payne to be a name to watch for in that one! Don’t expect Jeff LaGrange to stray too far though I hear he’s expected to take a new job in the athletic program!

Brad Payne would be an excellent hire. Do you think Natalie will go there or stay at Daviess County?

I’d say that depends on who you talk too!

Should be interesting to see what everyone does in the next month.

So word on the street in coal country is that former head coach and Muhlenberg County legend Steve Sparks is the leader in the clubhouse to be named new head coach of the Mustangs!

That is a old school name. Thanks for the update JD!

With what Natalie is building at DC would be hard to see her leave, plus Break already has a good girls coach there now in Moorman, and I don't see him going anywhere.

I got an assumption we will know more about that situation next week and as the old saying goes never say never!
