  1. Just another example of it not being your night. Dixie should have been able to kick a short field goal, only being down 21-10 at half and getting the 3rd qtr kickoff, with momemtum, and it just went against them. Beechwood played well and deserved to win. Once again, Dixie can't stop the run, and that's been a major problem for them in the past few years. Beechwood's qb was also having the "lock onto one receiver" night, but he'll only get better, and Dixie never took advantage of that. Beechwood will have alot to say come playoff time. Dixie typically starts of slow but will rebound now that they get to practice on a real field, with lines and hashmarks, not a city park. It was an honor to play Beechwood, considering their storied past. Dixie has no shame in losing to a single A school. Beechwood could beat most 4A teams. As for the Stallkamp holding non-penalties, it's subjective, but you don't get that many fans in an uproar for nothing. Thanks to Beechwood for the hospitality!
  2. Congrats to Coach Rash. His team did him proud.
  3. Why? Because they beat a rebuilding Lloyd squad last week? SK will be a force in 4A in No. Ky., but labelling them favorites, it's way too early for that based on 1 or 2 non-district games. How do you think they would have fared vs. Highlands, Beechwood, NCC, or CovCath? You can't say, SK doesn't play them. It's way too early for that prediction!
  4. You see that in most high school qbs. Beechwood's qb did the exact same thing, looking only to the one side of the field that the play was called for. The defensive coordinator has to teach to defend that, and you don't see that too often. It's part of the learning experience for young qb's.
  5. I think most of us Dixie supporters knew this game would be impossible to hang close. Dixie traditionally starts slow, as evident that the last few years with the opening game vs. Highlands that have been a rollover for the Bluebirds. This year's preseason interruptions with Dixie having to practice at Edgewood's Freedom Park, without a lined field, limitation on time restraints when they can use the city's park, lack of practice equipment, and the school pretty much being on lockdown with construction so they couldn't use the weight room as usual, has put the Colonels in a state of disarray. Being off their normal preseason development schedule has hurt them. Not to take anything away from Highlands. They are the elite in No. Ky. right now, and are ready to play! Dixie was way overmatched and too slow. Best of luck to the Bluebirds for the rest of the season! Don't judge Dixie as being down this year based on a first game blowout. It has happened the last few years. Tom Spritzky will have them ready for district play. They will get on their new home field to practice real soon, and get comfortable being at home on a real football field which will help them enormously.
  6. Tommy Gibson is a JR. He played on both sides of the ball (WR/DB) last year for Dixie and he is one to watch! Great addition for SK!
  7. You should be embarrassed that you started this thread! Everyone knows that No KY has great single A programs and you to base your thread on scrimmage games? You do understand the word "scrimmage", right? I believe Dixie vs. NCC was 2 tds to 0, Dixie winning varsity vs. varsity after one quarter, but you base your thread on the final? I guarantee Tom Spritzky did not lose any sleep after losing a scrimmage to a single A team. Dixie plays Beechwood in a few weeks and if the Tigers should prevail, I know it won't be an embarrassment to our program. Beechwood has a storied tradition and it is an honor to play them. I should be embarrassed that I am taking this much time to reply to your comments! :madman:
  8. Dixie losing Gibson hurts them terribly, but a BIG gain for SK! Scott's transfers unfortunately sends them into doomsville, IMO.
  9. It was hard to tell with the red cap and gowns worn tonight, but was there a #5 jersey underneath a certain graduate's gown? Guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. Congrats SM! :ylsuper: Best of luck at the all-star game!
  10. for being invited by the Ky. Assn. of Basketball Coaches to play in the East-West All-Star game on Saturday for being the best senior players! I know the selection was slightly limited since CCH was in the state tourney and they probably weren't eligible, but both players selected had great varsity careers! Make No. Ky. proud and best of luck! :ylsuper:
  11. Sorry to hear that ICN6 is trying to steal some of your thunder, going live. You guys at CPC are dedicated to covering No. Ky. high school sports all season long, then ICN comes along to try to upstage you at the big tourney time because they got bucks for sponsorship. I know Don is all about No. Ky. high school sports and he does a great job, but where were they the last 3 months? Not one game broadcasted by them that I heard of. I know it sounds redundant, but thanks GT for all you and your volunteers do for No. Ky. high school sports! :ylsuper:
  12. I talked to a coach last week. They have started with the initial architect layout for the football field, marking the installation for the new turf and putting stands on both sides. They are hoping for a dry summer so they can be ready for the season opener vs. Highlands. Right now they don't think it will be ready by then which means either moving the game to Highlands and then having Highlands playing us 2 years back to back at home to make up the home-home series or maybe moving the game to Beechwood. Dixie then has scheduled 2 road games, then a bye, which gives them another month to prepare for the official grand dedication. It least it's coming together! :ylsuper:
  13. I say Dixie wins by atleast 6. The first time dixie and sk played, Dixie won with out its all region player playing because of injury. Since he is playing this game, the outcome will be alot different
  14. Boone returns an awful lot of talent also. CCH having to replace linemen throws questions in the air although the receiving targets return. It's hard to say that your punter turned qb will make the necessary connections to rate them the top team A-AAA in No. Ky. Time will tell. I'm a homer, so I have have to say Dixie is in a great position for next season in No. Ky. The only two-way lineman we lost is Atchley. Huenefeld and Metzger are gone, but the nucleus returns on both sides. Bricking, Molony, Detmer, Gibson return on O, Stallkamp, Benton, etc. return on D line, plus the JV starters who lost one game last season (beating Highlands and CCH), are in the mix. Kicking will be strong again, as Jett will only be a junior. Dixie's new turf facilities should help them break the mudbowl curses also! It'll be a fun year in No. Ky. once again! Good luck to all No. Ky. teams! Let's take state in all classes!
  15. "Little" Colonels was used. It was also used by Coach L during his pre-game interview with Channel 9 that was taped on Thursday. Just to let you know.
  16. You're talking about tax dollars at work here when it comes to Kenton Co. schools unfortunately. Dixie is getting a new athletic complex for football and a track (finally) and now I hear Scott and Simon Kenton are complaining that they should get the same field turf that Dixie is getting. The powers at be are not going to spend any money for webcasts and I don't see any alumni forking out any personal money to webcast Kenton Co. basketball or football games. County schools, for some reason, don't get alumni support like the private schools get. I went to private school and I constantly get donation requests, which alot of my fellow graduates support. Kenton Co. has to raise taxes on residents' property and utilites to get what they need. As far as the "Lil Colonels" comments, I have been associated with Dixie for 8 years now and have never once heard anyone at Dixie refer to us as the "lil" Colonels. That is the term used for the grade school basketball league Dixie sponsors. If I had the extra cash, and computer technology, I would be privileged to webcast Dixie's games! BTW, once again, congrats to CCH on a great win!
  17. He was young and nieve back then! He received his props for that production and has moved on to more incentive-laiden assignments now!
  18. Congrats to the Blue Colonels for pulling out a hard fought rivalry game! Jacobs proved big once again! I wish I could have been there! It sounded high octane on the CCH radio network (KR Sports). Luckily, Dixie played CovCath again this year or I would have never heard a radio broadcast of any of Dixie's games. For what they claim is the No. Ky. game of the week with local business sponsorship, if you don't play CCH, your team doesn't get radio coverage. Of course, it's the same way during football season, too. Maybe gametime could break into radio broadcasts too, so other local teams could get radio airtime! I'm not demeaning CCH's performance of tonight's game, they played tough when it counted and won an emotional sellout game. It was just a little disheartening to listen to the game on the radio with such biased announcers. Best of luck to both Colonels' teams the rest of the season! I just wish other No. Ky. teams (Highlands, Holmes Beechwood, etc.) could get the same treatment when it comes to local radio coverage. If you don't play CovCath, you don't have much chance of being broadcasted until regionals. It was just kind of hard to listen to this game on the radio when every basket CCH made was made to sound spectacular and when Dixie scored, it was hum-drum. Just my opinion. I don't pay for airtime. I know KR Sports does the work to get sponsors and equipment so they can be on the air, but it would be nice to have all of No. Ky. represented. I realize alumni dollars talk, but 1160 AM is a No. Ky./Cincy station. Not a CovCath only station. Congrats, once again to CovCath on a great win! :ylsuper:
  19. Hard to win when you start out the game losing 30-0! At least the Colonels came out after the half and outscored St. X's varsity in second half. Coach Chevy scheduled to hardest teams he could get, non conference. Too bad it seems that this year's squad hasn't seemed to gel just yet, but there's still time! NKY took it on the chin tonight with CCH getting handled by Elder also. Tough times, right now, for the NKY teams vs. the Cinti powerhouses. Just keep practicing boys! We'll get'em! :thumb:
  20. Sam Lawson is one heck-of-a basketball player and considering this was his third game back from rehabbing a broken finger on his shooting hand, it puzzles me how you could consider his performance a "non-factor"? Yea, he didn't put up 20+ points, but he did add 12 points, I believe, playing tenatively, and HC played well enough to win. Congrats to Holy Cross! Try going the local YMCA and see how long it takes you to adjust your shot with a broken finger. Dixie will struggle all season without a fulltime big man inside, but Sam will be a factor come February! Obviously Holmes and CCH clearly have the best teams in the 9th, and they deserve it. According to some of you, let's just cancel the rest of the "pre-season" and give the region to one of them. The other schools don't seem to matter, so let's cancel Dec-Feb. Tell these kids from Holy Cross, Dixie, Lloyd, NewCath, Ryle, etc. that they are wasting their time. Unfortunately, that's what I'm reading from the BGP experts. Let's remember they are kids and they do read your opinions!
  21. Great news for all NKY teams, in addition to Dixie's playoff opponents! Dixie will have a new field next season! Complete with turf and stands on both sides of the field! :ylsuper: According to the BOE, reconstruction of the athletic facilities will start early 2006 and the new football complex will be ready in August 2006. Our tax dollars at work finally (unless that construction delay dragon breeds it's ugly head)!
  22. Sorry to disappoint you! Congrats to the Breds and Coach Schneider! IMO keep playing at Holmes. It's worked so well. Keep rolling next Friday! Great execution from Sammy and the entire offense. Any stats for Canafax?
  23. Classy words as always Sandman32! You exemplify the class of Dixie parents and your thoughts represent all of us Dixie senior parents! It's been a great ride for the last 8 years for both of us, but unfortunately it's time to pass the torch! Thank you for all your tailgating hospitality and your undying Colonel support, and we will continue to see you on football Friday nights! Best of luck to you and your better half, and, of course, to your Dixie alumni football players! They weren't giants in size, but they had heart, drive and Dixie Pride! :thumb:
  24. I got a good chuckle out of it! I never knew one team could give up 13 points avg the last 4 games, the other only 9 points avg. but the team that gives up less has to figure out how to handle the team that gives up more points? :irked: That's OK. Those writers all picked us to lose big to Ryle also. Sounds like we should be in good shape!
