BGGreen Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Final! Pretty close throughout, but CCH pulls it out in the 4th quarter at home.
ColonelCrazy Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Good win for the Colonels, although a little closer than I expected. Any stats, BG?
BGGreen Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 Good win for the Colonels, although a little closer than I expected. Any stats, BG? Jacobs leading scorer for CCH with 20+ and Bovard followed with 12-14 I think. CCH 9-12 from the line, most late. Dixie shot 43% from the field, 5-18 from 3. TO's were 16-12 in favor of CovCath. Cahill apparently played some good minutes for Coach L.
cshs81 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 TJ had 22 including 3 clutch 3s. Bo had 13 with 2 big 3s. He also put a potential game-tying 3 by Dixie into the wall with a huge block with about 5 seconds left. Cahill had great minutes off the bench - blocking shots, altering shots, rebounding. Noll did a solid job defensively in the 2nd qtr on Lawson which helped the cause.
cshs81 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Dixie ran a great offense taking advantage of having 5 guards on the floor. It gave CCH fits with so many cuts which were there because of the open-post offense.
Theoldguy Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 IMHO I thought CovCath almost gifted wrapped the victory to Dixie in the last couple of seconds with some really bad mental laspes. Missing that bunny with under 20 left in the game never should taken place. What the young man should have done is just dribbled the ball out from under the basket and made Dixie foul someone and thus running off some more time on the clock. Cahill did give Coach L some great playing time stepping up and playing some great D and fighting for those rebounds. The young man really steped it up tonight, but CovCath big men need to start playing large under the basket. CovCath will have to play a whole let better if they want to keep the Holmes game even close when they meet next week at Holmes.
cshs81 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Dixie is a team that causes mismatch problems if you have traditional 4s and 5s. You can't have Schult and Young guarding on the perimeter against a guard. That's not a criticism of them. Its just fact. Lawson got off to a fast start due to this type of mismatch.

Up 8 with the ball with a minute and change left and then having to block a 3 with 5 seconds left does not speak well of CCH's ability to put the game away.
RoundBaller Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Dixie continues to get stronger. For a hard fought battle, sportsmanship was excellent from both sides. The house was rockin'! Students filled 2/3 of their side of the gym. Their wave cheers and various synchronized arm moves are really something to see. Dixie students showed up as well. Great high school basketball environment! Hats off to CovCath's JV. They had to have shot over 75% for the game... 90%+ for the first half. Draining all of their 3's from wherever they wanted to. Dixie's JV is typically solid (StX overtime, close match with Scott County, beat Highlands, etc).

colfan80 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I thought Dixie played very well and would have most likely beat CCH on a neutral court. They could be scary in the regional tournament. Good game by both teams, though.
colfan80 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Dixie is too good to only have 5 wins. They've come a long way, starting the season with only two players with real varsity experience.... lots of close games with some of the states top teams. Look for Dixie to continue to improve and start getting some W's, I wouldn't want to play them come March.
DixieChick Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Congrats to the Blue Colonels for pulling out a hard fought rivalry game! Jacobs proved big once again! I wish I could have been there! It sounded high octane on the CCH radio network (KR Sports). Luckily, Dixie played CovCath again this year or I would have never heard a radio broadcast of any of Dixie's games. For what they claim is the No. Ky. game of the week with local business sponsorship, if you don't play CCH, your team doesn't get radio coverage. Of course, it's the same way during football season, too. Maybe gametime could break into radio broadcasts too, so other local teams could get radio airtime! I'm not demeaning CCH's performance of tonight's game, they played tough when it counted and won an emotional sellout game. It was just a little disheartening to listen to the game on the radio with such biased announcers. Best of luck to both Colonels' teams the rest of the season! I just wish other No. Ky. teams (Highlands, Holmes Beechwood, etc.) could get the same treatment when it comes to local radio coverage. If you don't play CovCath, you don't have much chance of being broadcasted until regionals. It was just kind of hard to listen to this game on the radio when every basket CCH made was made to sound spectacular and when Dixie scored, it was hum-drum. Just my opinion. I don't pay for airtime. I know KR Sports does the work to get sponsors and equipment so they can be on the air, but it would be nice to have all of No. Ky. represented. I realize alumni dollars talk, but 1160 AM is a No. Ky./Cincy station. Not a CovCath only station. Congrats, once again to CovCath on a great win! :ylsuper:

I would imagine that the coaching staff knew this going into the game. Why not set up a gameplan to prepare for that?
