Just havin' a bit of fun... a little carryover from the high decibel brain-washing by the student sections at the game :argue:

You're right, some of us Dixie fans should put more effort into circumventing the beuracracy of policies that Dixie's STLP governed, Kenton County School Board owned website is constrained by. Jumping all the way into broadcasting is a stretch. Maybe we should start with simple things like getting our schedule posted. Don't bother checking out our site, there is nothing there about basketball... nada, zilch. :irked:

Tell me again why someone respected by the administration/athletic department at Dixie Heights can't purchase a GeoCities website from yahoo, throw a few text boxes, photos, and graphics together. Keep it fresh with game stories and player freatures, put a disclaimer on the bottom of it that the website is your property and that you are responsible for it's contents and then put yourself in the business of webcasting your games with the blessing of your coaching staff and athletic department.

 

I personally started the BMustangs website at Brossart in December of 2001, intending for it to be about a six page venue. It has grown to around sixty pages and I still pay for it 100% out of my pocket. If we didn't have it we would be in the same boat as Dixie with info on our school website which is also non-existent. I also started the webcast of our games with the blessing and encouragement of Willie Schlarman who was our head coach at the time and the athletic department now pays the bill for them. I am aware of who I work for when I work our games and am always positive and try to put our school in a positive light. Mark Whery at CovCath is a "booster" like me who took the initiative at the encouragement of Mike Listerman to start up the webcast program at CovCath. He has nothing to do with their website.

 

Why couldn't this be done at Dixie????? Or if they did it at Dixie would they have to do it at Scott and Simon??? If so, that's a bummer.

 

I say build it and they will come. If you do a good job and it becomes an asset to your program the admin will allow you to continue and maybe even thank you for doing it.

You're talking about tax dollars at work here when it comes to Kenton Co. schools unfortunately. Dixie is getting a new athletic complex for football and a track (finally) and now I hear Scott and Simon Kenton are complaining that they should get the same field turf that Dixie is getting. The powers at be are not going to spend any money for webcasts and I don't see any alumni forking out any personal money to webcast Kenton Co. basketball or football games. County schools, for some reason, don't get alumni support like the private schools get. I went to private school and I constantly get donation requests, which alot of my fellow graduates support. Kenton Co. has to raise taxes on residents' property and utilites to get what they need.

 

As far as the "Lil Colonels" comments, I have been associated with Dixie for 8 years now and have never once heard anyone at Dixie refer to us as the "lil" Colonels. That is the term used for the grade school basketball league Dixie sponsors. If I had the extra cash, and computer technology, I would be privileged to webcast Dixie's games! BTW, once again, congrats to CCH on a great win!

You know I didn't hear Danny say big colonels or little colonels and really don't care, as I was at the game, and haven't listened to the broadcast.

Dixie has referred to themselves as the "Little Colonels" for quite some time, up until the past 5 or so years.

 

Donnie McFarland, a former coach at Dixie, kept the name "Little Colonels" alive, by using it as a name for a youth basketball program. I do not know when Dixie took the "Little" off of their jerseys, but I do know that my father always played the "Little Colonels"...and Dixie embraced the name.

Mark Wehry & Jason Elfers announce Covington Catholic games because they want to do so. From my knowledge, they have no connection to Notre Dame Academy's basketball team; however, they have traveled to Louisville to broadcast at least one of the Panda's basketball games.

I agree about the GeoCities website, and as I said, we should start there. SK and Scott are not the concern when it comes to boosting or supporting prime time visibility for a boy's sport without similar balanced contributions or efforts being given to the same girl's sport. No reason to open a can of worms in this already unwieldy thread, so I'll send you a private note to solicit more of your experienced guidance. :sssh:

Seems to me that, as a Booster type activity, I am obligated to comply with the rules of Title IX (seriously). How many girls games will I have to broadcast in order to ensure a fair balance? I realize that professional broadcasting firms are not subject to these laws, but organizations, supporters, boosters, et al who are directly affiliated with a specific coed school must comply by contributing equal dollars and benefit to both sides.

 

Hmmm, I guess the time issue really does come into play. I'm motivated to do the boys games, but I struggle with investing the same energy for the less entertaining girls games.

 

Please, some of you critics who say this should be so easy, help me figure out how to circumvent this caveat. I don't think I'll be able to say that the guys on Bluegrasspreps told me it was okay to ignore the girls.

I guess we got the bad end of the deal on Title IX, and you got it on the District pairings. Wow, I'm feeling much less oppressed now, which is a good thing because the bitter-beer face can cause cramps after a while. :lol:

By the way, a lot of Dixie fans were also sincerely grateful that our boys were allowed to participate in a Friday night game this month. As you have heard several times on this forum lately, coeds don't have the priveledge of scheduling games whenever they want to.

 

These cumulative discrepancies make for a good rivalry. Our Title IX repressed, no website, no broadcast, scholarship (oops, I mean enrollment territory) impaired, "Lil Peon" public schoolers who have no big men to pose an inside threat are really looking forward to playing you again. Who knows, maybe we'll see you in March

It’s a shame that you have done such a great job of distracting those high school basketball fans of the effort that your team gave. Those kids gave everything that they had and wanted to win that game as badly as any game that they have played thus far. Let’s not downplay the effort that both teams gave, and personally, I look forward to a potential rematch. And I can assure you, that if there is a rematch, I’ll be there and I’ll buy your ticket Roundballer. But of course, I’d have to buy a ticket for a lovely lady as well…

Much of this banter from me has been mimicing the manner in which the student sections chanted back and forth with nonsense from 6:30 through 9:00 Friday night. They set the standard for how to distract an audience from "the game".

 

How much content of the student's cheers have to do with the game being played? A guy on the floor makes a great play, and the kids chant about girls, or frogs, or we can't hear you... whatever.

 

The Title IX stuff started in other threads about CovCath playing Highlands on Friday last week, then again Friday this week against Dixie. I have taken it into a few new spins. It can go further and deeper.

Dixie continues to get stronger. For a hard fought battle, sportsmanship was excellent from both sides.

 

The house was rockin'! Students filled 2/3 of their side of the gym. Their wave cheers and various synchronized arm moves are really something to see. Dixie students showed up as well. Great high school basketball environment!

 

Hats off to CovCath's JV. They had to have shot over 75% for the game...
