for Simon Kenton this year?In both cases the parents are divorced

and the other parent lives in Simon's district.They will be living

with the parent in Simon's district.From what I know of transfer rules

they would not be permitted to play this year, their senior season.

First, let me say the KHSAA does not like when I speak for them( ).

 

 

However, assuming that a)they have already played varsity in some sport and b)the parents were divorced and living apart BEFORE the change of schools, my initial thought would be that they would not be eligible. There was a ruling in the 70s that we've referenced on here before in WKY where the KHSAA said the kid who switched from one parent to another had to sit a year. It was challenged but the KY Supreme Court (or COA?) upheld the KHSAA's ruling. The same scenario happened either last season or the season before in the Boyd County area.

 

Now, if the player was living with both parents last year THEN the divorce happened and he moved with one to another district, I believe he would be eligible.

So in addition to dealing with the effects of a divorce, these kids will have to suffer the punishment of being suspended from a sport that they want to enjoy. All in the name of making things "fair". Let the kids play, the game is about them at this point.

It depends. As I posted above, the marital status during the previous school year will be the determining factor.

I have some knowledge on this issue. The parents were divorced a while ago and the Mom has custody. She is selling her house and looking into a place near SK. From what I have been told, Haught will be playing at SK if I had to guess...

From what I know, she did move at the end of the school year, and she is and has been the legal guardian. Ie... she has full custody.

 

I would bet a funnel cake that they will play next season as pioneers, though I freely admit that I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

 

There is much more to this story than most know, and the motivation for moving schools was not athletically motivated. Of that I am sure.

This move will also decimate Scott. They start the season without an experienced qb and now they lost there best player in Haught.

I just read that Michael Haught will be leaving Scott for his senior season. He has been one of the real bright spots on the program the last few years and I was anxious to see him cap off his hs career with a great season. Does anyone know what the state of the Scott program will be without arguably their best player? The way I'm seeing it is that if they don't knock off either Holy Cross or Carroll County they may be looking at another 0-10 season.

Just because you said that, I hope they don't let them play next season. Funnel cakes are great and you then would have to give me one, jk! Pretty sure it'll be okay. Nothing against SK, but they're not a powerhouse football program and the rule seems only to affect such programs that are year in and year out title contenders.

Yeah its funny how everyone wants to play for an awesome program like HHS....Can you fault a kid for wanting to win? I know you are cheesing so don't take this response personally........as long as they do it legitimately I see no fault in moving to another school.

 

But in regards to these kids.... I hope it works out for them and the Pioneers can have a nice season. I thought the Bishop kid was tough last year and he should be up for player of the year this season. i don't know much about these two kids....can anyone give us some background on them?
