Maybe so. But if you are in a place where you have to withdraw, you probably knew it on Thursday night just the same as next Monday morning.

Higher RPI hosts no matter the regular season result. It’s happened a few times in recent years.

I believe the rule is if you withdraw this upcoming week you also remove yourself from district play next year. If you withdraw before the end of the regular season there’s no punishment.

The joke I've heard made by people in all four districts is one prominent coach will probably retire but it is implemented!

This is where Lexington Catholic is so good this year. Many of us of a certain age are conditioned to the old Catholic teams that threw it 40 times a game and scored a ton of points, but were okay beating you 42-28. This isn't that kind of team. They can be dominant on the offensive and defensive lines.

My guess here is that when the KHSAA made that move a few years back, it was because of the success Frederick Douglass was having in Class 5A. They assumed that much of the 5A finals crowd would be from Lexington and playing at 8pm wasn't a deterrent. Moving the 6A game - almost always two Louisville teams - to 4pm allowed for better travel and return times.

My opinion: the KHSAA is a small staff of people. Hosting as many championships as possible in Lexington keeps them close to their offices and resources and they don't have to pay various travel expenses likes hotels, etc. Is that good? I don't know. Probably not for people outside the Lexington Metro area. But I understand why they do it.

Question about Beechwood, by extension: There are two games this Saturday night. One is Trimble County at Dayton, which should be close and conceivably a Dayton win. Dayton played Newport Catholic, who played Beechwood (Opponents' Opponent). Could the RPI numbers change on Saturday night because of one game? Should people be aware that the 2A RPI won't be final at midnight tonight?

Tonight should probably quiet anyone who thinks Colin Chandler is a point guard. He can do it for a minute here or there but that's obviously not his best position. Don't let my criticism of Chandler gloss over the fact that there's plenty of criticism to go around after tonight. But it's an early season exhibition. They'll get better.

I don't think so. I seem to recall the KHSAA adopting a policy a few years back that if you withdrew before the final game of the regular season, it was considered a bye week. Essentially, it's as if 2A-District 3 only had three teams instead of a 4th in Fort Knox.

I had it on but no volume (working on something simultaneously) so maybe the announcers discussed this. In the 9th inning, the runner was on second and Varland stepped off three times, which automatically awards the runner the next base. Was he stepping off on purpose to give the guy third, afraid the base runner was relaying signs? Because if not, he was entirely too focused on the runner with two outs in a five run game.

They've also played a brutal schedule. Calpreps rates it the 3rd toughest schedule in Class 3A, which makes a rebuilding year doubly tough.

3A school, middle of the pack in the last alignment. Enrollment has actually decreased quite a bit in recent years.

Lots of moving parts at a neutral site that can be difficult. You have technological things like scoreboards that are different from another school; you need ticket takers and concession workers and they need someone from the home school helping out. You'd probably have to pay to do it. It makes more sense, especially in year 1 of a contract, to just move it to the other school.

I made it through the end of the 12th when Kershaw got out of the jam but probably should have stayed up because I kicked around in the bed for an hour wondering what was happening! Did either team have any pitchers remaining besides Ohtani and Bieber who are scheduled to start Game 4?

No, but that's okay. I think there will potentially be some very enjoyable games. I'm thinking Murray/Glasgow, Rockcastle/Lawrence, LexCath vs. about anyone should all but fun to watch.
