The Sayre Spartans hit the road this Friday night for a tough matchup in the mountains as they take on the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets in what could be one of the most intriguing clashes of the season. This game has major playoff implications for Class A! Can the Spartans overcome the long trip and get a road win or do the Yellow Jackets remain undefeated?

Larry French has done a great job building Middlesboro back up, but they don't have a signature win during his tenure. Beating the reigning champions of 1A would would be huge for the Jackets in terms of perception as we head into the playoffs.

I'm taking Sayre to win, but If Middlesboro can avoid the uninspired form they displayed against Harrison County, I think they can compete. Another sub-par effort will get them blown off their own field.

It’s shaping up to be a great night for football in Middlesboro, KY!

 

Veteran head coach Larry French will have his Yellow Jackets locked in and ready to roll. Partin continues to be electric in the pocket, entering this matchup with 22 touchdown passes and over 1,700 yards leading a Middlesboro offense that’s been red hot all season.

This Sayre Spartan team has caught fire. Over the last two weeks, they’ve completely dominated opponents by a combined score of 112-0. The Spartan defense is flying around and looking to make a statement, one that says they’re ready for another run at the carpet.

 

There’s more on the line than bragging rights. Round 3 playoff implications hang in the balance:

 

• A win could give Middlesboro home-field advantage in Round 3.
• Sayre, meanwhile, is trying to leapfrog Pikeville and Middlesboro to secure that coveted #2 seed and host deep into November.

The Spartans spoil Senior Night!

I would have to go with, it would mean Sayer isn't a 1A contender.  Sayre's 8-5 win over Brossart has me puzzled.  It was an early game, but tonight may show if that was a growing pain or if it indicated something different.
