  1. Unfortunately, with his soccer schedule, Dolly devotes very little time to practicing his football kicking.
  2. How do you come out fired up for a team that has never beaten you and has lost their first two games to Bath County and Nicholas County? You guys need to relax and let the team come together as the season wears on. The secondary is new all the way across and most of the guys we lost had been starting since their sophomore years. Losing Harvey up front left another gap to fill. The coaching staff will do their jobs and get the team prepared every week. As for worrying about giving up an early score and playing from behind, it's better to have played from behind and won than to never have trailed and not know how to respond when you are behind (a la 2004). And lastly, for anybody thinking about Belfry and worrying what they do, since we wouldn't even see then until the semi's if we get that far (or if they get there for that matter), the team needs to play them one game at a time as Coach McGlone said in today's paper. Worrying about a team you wouldn't face until game 14 is not a constructive use of time.
  3. Russell can name the score this week, so long as they aren't looking ahead...:sssh:
  4. I second that...and that's all I got to say about that...
  5. Thanks...I thought the rule was the same across the country...:thumb:
  6. I thought it was possesion at the 10 in high school?
  7. System sounded great, now work on getting a better guy on the mic...:creepy: ...he was awful. I HATE PA announcers that cheerlead from the pressbox. But even if you take away that annoying aspect, he's still bad. Wrong calls all night...repeatedly giving wrong penalties and whether they were declined or not, wrong names and numbers (maybe a bad spotter on some of those); in any event, the guy needs to know more about the game...
  8. From the sideline, it appeared to be a forward lateral. As for Selby, I get the ball in his hands much more than they did. As JB mentioned, I might move him to the backfield and hand it to him as well as get it to him in the short passing game.
  9. 1. None 2. No 3. Not to us... BGP members see more games across the state than the handful of people voting in the AP polls and many seem to have more knowledge of the game and the teams than the voters do. Too many voters go based solely on reputation. Some schools will get votes from an AP member on the opposite end of the state just because they really had some great teams back in the 70's. A better question would be to ask the AP voters what influence BGP has on them...
  10. As of today, the daytime high is forecasted to be in the low 80's...

  12. WOW..... Kentucky regulations call for ALL outdoor activity to stop once the HI exceeds 104. Activities may proceed with a HI over 100 so long as no protective equipment (such as helmets/pads) is required for play or can be safely removed for practice. I am amazed this game was allowed to happen...
  13. Turmoil in Lloyd??? Between you and oldrambler, someone please elaborate...
  14. If you got your info from the people I have heard saying that GC beat Ironton in last weeks scrimmage, you have been misled. Today a guy told me he heard it was 16-14 GC. I know it was 35-6 Ironton at the end of the third quarter. Somebody down on the west end of the county must be shoveling a truckload of fertilizer...
  15. Consider it confirmed...:thumb: Also note, all area officials have been instructed to check with the home team on the heat index to make sure the games do not start until the conditions are safe (as they should). More game times may be moved back or start late if the forecast holds out.
  16. What kind of maintenance is required to maintain the crumb rubber following the initial installation?
  17. Heard this was in the works, but haven't heard confirmation as of yet...as Coach Jaggers may remind you, it ain't official until the contracts are signed and in hand.
  18. Keep in mind too, that while they may bring everyone back, it's everyone back from a team Russell beat 33-6 last year. The Musketeers have also installed what must be their third new offense in three years so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they won't have the execution down. John Deere green and bibbed overalls notwithstanding, Greenup is still Greenup and Russell is still Russell...:fire:
  19. Once Russell started blitzing more, the C-M QB was scrambling alot and they had a couple of holding calls up front as they had trouble picking it up and getting on their blocks. At RB, I believe Cordle and Bailey came out at HB with Abrams at FB for the 1st string. All looked decent running it, Bailey has had a slow start this season but looks to be improving. Abrams runs well, does a good job finding the hole. Cordle is getting there and has the potential to be the big play of the bunch, but will be learning the position on the run so to speak. Expect to see Will Rice getting carries too as he may (?) have the potential to be the next great back at Russell.
  20. After hearing about Greenup's scrimmage with East, I doubt it will be anything more than business as usual next Friday... Keep in mind the quality of the two opponents... Cabell - Midland - good Greenup - not so good
  21. Russell looked better than they did on Saturday, play of the teams 1st stringers was even, maybe a one score edge to Russell although I can't be certain. Overall, I believe the scrimmage wound up 3 TD's a piece. Line play was better overall. Secondary still has work to do, but Coach Morris will get it straightened out as the season progresses. Keep in mind we are seeing four new starters back there. If not for some untimely penalties (called by a first year official with no previous football experience as a player or otherwise) for leading with the head, Russell probably has one or two more scores. FYI, an officials point of emphasis this season is any contact initiated with the head whether it is with the head down or with the facemask. Several of these calls last night after none on Saturday, curiously it was the same crew both times... Not complaining as there are far too many kids tackling and running with their heads down which can lead to a broken neck and paralysis. However, there needs to be some consistency as there were many more egregious hits that drew no flag.
  22. Most players odn't care for it due to the third world conditions of the locker rooms. Heck, Ashland won't even dress there. The Tomcat fans can talk about how great it is, but under the bleachers is a disgrace to the school system. Russell has never felt like playing there was any disadvantage as far as it being a tough place to play.
  23. Virtually every running play in the wing-t as run by Russell involves a trap. If you see someone come through untouched, watch to see if the opposite guard isn't pulling and looking for him... If you remember Matt Thompson on the 2002 team, more than one defensive player stopped crossing the LOS after he leveled them on a trap block. In the second half of games, it wasn't unusual to see kids backing up at the snap after taking him on early.
  24. I was not there, but heard from a coach that was...he said neither team looked good. East had some injuries with one player leaving the field via ambulance. Don't know anymore than that.
