Column on Prop 2 from Commonwealth Journal
goherd96 replied to Jesse James's topic in Controversial Issues
I get tired of hearing how poor the private schools are and that they don't have the resources of public schools. Something else they don't have is the state or federal government telling them how they have to spend the money they do have. I previously worked for a private school and they built an entirely brand new facility (school, administration, athletic complex) with donations of money, materials and manpower. The facilities are nicer than those found at the vast majority of public schools around the state. Public schools do not have the resources to accomplish this kind of undertaking and if they did, there are various governmental hoops you have to jump through before you can do anything with it. Saying the privates don't have as many resources as public schools just doesn't ring true with me after my experience working in and around several different private schools in the state. Fewer resources...maybe, but debateable in my book. More freedom to allocate resources as you see fit...definitely. -
Here's an interesting link for those interested to see how much is already tied in salaries for next year... http://www.redsinsite.com/playerinfo/salary_chart.php It will show you how much they are paying this season and you can change the date at the top of the page to see next year...

Awhile back, someone posted a link to an article that as best as I can remember showed nothing left after Milton's money is spread out to the current players due to various contractual raises over this year's salary.

I will be going out-of-town this afternoon and won't be able to check in again until late tomorrow. I'll check before we leave around noon or so God willing, but if I'm not up then, it'll be later on Sunday... -
McGahee...good back in an offense that is run first. Miami will be playing from behind more often than not and that takes the running game out of the equation. Plus the new system there I believe is more pass oriented. NEVER base a selection on preseason performance because there are WAY too many variables with teams playing guys that won't be around come the first real game.

Anyone in the medical field ? I need a doctor or someone really smart.
goherd96 replied to MBWC41's topic in BGP Break Room
As a local sports medicine professional, I would recommend Dr. Giangarra at Cabell. He is one of Marshall's team ortho's and will get you going in the right direction as far as the appropriate steps to take. It does sound as though you may have had some type of injury, possibly a shoulder separation, in the past that has combined with the congenital shape of the acromion to give you an overuse type of injury. That just means it was caused by repeated action as opposed to one traumatic event. -
How nice of his wife to make pickles for you...now does she bring them all the way up there to you, or is it strictly pick-up...

Heard this was in the works, but haven't heard confirmation as of yet...as Coach Jaggers may remind you, it ain't official until the contracts are signed and in hand.

A recent study of Amish society was done to see why they had such a low incidence of heart disease, yet ate all the things that are "bad" for you. Guess what they found...they had low rates of heart disease because of all the freakin' work they do. They put pedometers on them and one old guy walked more than 50,000 steps in one afternoon while plowing his field. Keep in mind this was behind a horse/mule drawn plow so it wasn't any Sunday stroll. Gee, go figure that exercise and activity allow a person to more or less eat what they want without suffering dire consequences. Who woulda thunk it... Here's a link to the article for those who are interested... http://www.setma.com/article.cfm?ID=295 I read the reference to the man walking over 50,000 steps in one day in medical journal and that is where I got the 411 on what he was doing to walk that much in one day.

Keep in mind too, that while they may bring everyone back, it's everyone back from a team Russell beat 33-6 last year. The Musketeers have also installed what must be their third new offense in three years so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they won't have the execution down. John Deere green and bibbed overalls notwithstanding, Greenup is still Greenup and Russell is still Russell...:fire:

Once Russell started blitzing more, the C-M QB was scrambling alot and they had a couple of holding calls up front as they had trouble picking it up and getting on their blocks. At RB, I believe Cordle and Bailey came out at HB with Abrams at FB for the 1st string. All looked decent running it, Bailey has had a slow start this season but looks to be improving. Abrams runs well, does a good job finding the hole. Cordle is getting there and has the potential to be the big play of the bunch, but will be learning the position on the run so to speak. Expect to see Will Rice getting carries too as he may (?) have the potential to be the next great back at Russell.

After hearing about Greenup's scrimmage with East, I doubt it will be anything more than business as usual next Friday... Keep in mind the quality of the two opponents... Cabell - Midland - good Greenup - not so good

Britain thought that would work too, but we wound up with Australia...

Russell looked better than they did on Saturday, play of the teams 1st stringers was even, maybe a one score edge to Russell although I can't be certain. Overall, I believe the scrimmage wound up 3 TD's a piece. Line play was better overall. Secondary still has work to do, but Coach Morris will get it straightened out as the season progresses. Keep in mind we are seeing four new starters back there. If not for some untimely penalties (called by a first year official with no previous football experience as a player or otherwise) for leading with the head, Russell probably has one or two more scores. FYI, an officials point of emphasis this season is any contact initiated with the head whether it is with the head down or with the facemask. Several of these calls last night after none on Saturday, curiously it was the same crew both times... Not complaining as there are far too many kids tackling and running with their heads down which can lead to a broken neck and paralysis. However, there needs to be some consistency as there were many more egregious hits that drew no flag.

Toughest place to play High School football?
goherd96 replied to TheFranchise's topic in KY Football (High School)
Most players odn't care for it due to the third world conditions of the locker rooms. Heck, Ashland won't even dress there. The Tomcat fans can talk about how great it is, but under the bleachers is a disgrace to the school system. Russell has never felt like playing there was any disadvantage as far as it being a tough place to play. -
Russell/Spring Valley, WV Scrimmage
goherd96 replied to EKUAlum05's topic in KY Football (High School)
Virtually every running play in the wing-t as run by Russell involves a trap. If you see someone come through untouched, watch to see if the opposite guard isn't pulling and looking for him... If you remember Matt Thompson on the 2002 team, more than one defensive player stopped crossing the LOS after he leveled them on a trap block. In the second half of games, it wasn't unusual to see kids backing up at the snap after taking him on early.
