You get no arguement on the fact that our guys were horrible last season. But if you have to listen to Dickie, he does a GREAT job on play by play when the Tomcats aren't involved and usually is pretty good when they are. IMO, some of his on air comments are highly objectionable AND unprofessional. This was especially true during the OJ Mayo days and if you listen to him, you should know what I am talking about. Call it like you see it, be a homer, whatever just leave the other stuff out of it...:thumb: Anyway, to get back on topic, from several sources I have heard Ashland's line is again a concern. With all the new weight equipment and weight room, why does it seem to be the line is a constant issue in recent years??? If the line doesn't come together this year, the Tomcats will have a solid season, but fall far short of their fans expectations yet again...

The only one of the bold that are obvious is Kasey. Jones will more than likely be the starting QB when the season starts. Other than that, the backs will be the usual merry-go-round of capable runners. Look for David Bailey to come along as the season progresses if the sophomore keeps his head on straight...:thumb:

Hard to tell much about an intrasquad scrimmage which amounts to little more than a glorified open practice for the fans. Coaches had the talent pretty well evenly dispersed. Looks like many talented kids and good depth should produce another long playoff run...

True, but not every school has those fans broadcasting their games on the radio...:thumb:

No Watusi...not 100% sure, but I believe if they were related, it was along the lines of cousins and I distant at that.

GIAT et al can't stand it that the luster has definitely faded from the Tomcat sports programs over the years... Sad how some can't acknowledge that maybe other area schools are just as good...or maybe even a little better...than their precious Tomcats.

Did this include the freshmen or was this varsity only? I understood they only had about 25-30 out for varsity so far.

Mercer is in a different district and with the new playoff format this season, I don't think Russell could face them until the carpet...and we both know it's that's LOOOOOOOOOOONG way off and much can happen between now and then.

I believe it's two...unfortunately for the Lions, that seems to be their early peak each season. After last year's win over Russell, the team doused Damron with water and one would have thought they'd just won state...too bad they still had six more weeks of regular season football to play (which resulted in a 1-5 record with the lone win coming in the final game against Greenup).

Yes, they would...sorry if you take it as arrogant, just being realistic. While Raceland does have a nice little tradition, but looking at JV results the last few years and knowing a bit about both programs it wouldn't be close.

Russell's new district will look alot like the old...the Red Devils will be joined by Fleming, Mason and Lewis Counties as well as East and West Carter.

As I understood the new playoff format, Russell wouldn't have to see them until the Pizza Box though. Of course that may have changed since June...

And why should Russell be interested in 'helping out' those two programs????? Again I say that, from Russell's perspective, scheduling either of those programs right now would be a total waste of time. The Red Devils get enough opportunities to get the back ups some playing time once they hit the district portion of their season...no need to further water down the schedule, IMO.

ONE six team district in 3A and of course Russell is in it...

Personally, I say keep Ashland and Boyd but only if the Lions can maintain their program and continue to improve. Pick up a replacement for Greenup until those people get their act together. Add any combination of Wheelersburg, Ironton, Lawrence County and Wayne. Be tough competition and get you ready for the playoffs.

Please, playing Raceland or Fairview would be a complete waste of time...nothing really to be gained from it IMO. I can't believe we still have 5 district games...what a joke. Just once I'd love to see the Devils get the benefit of being in the smaller district and being able to pick up an extra game.

I'd say the 3 starter's out and the Russell Red Devils were the main reasons for the loss... If 'ifs' & 'buts' were candy & nuts...:sssh:

The teams you mention, with the exception of Rose Hill's Boys, already had quality teams to begin with and their success will continue after those transfers have gone. With Rose Hills boys, when the transfers left, so did the success...
