While my source is highly reliable, I thought he may have been given some bad info. As for them becoming the KHSAA version of the Titans...I doubt it. And yes, it is only for one year as the state districts will be redrawn after the 2006 season...probably adding in another class too.

Not saying anything negative here, merely pointing out facts. As a fan of Russell, I don't really care what you do since the Devils have enjoyed much success meeting the Scotties in the playoffs...:thumb:

I spoke with someone at BC yesterday who will have much input on the hiring and he said they are still accepting applications and he won't see them until the acceptance period has ended. Looks like it will be a couple more weeks before anything is decided yet...

The current football alignment states that 2A is for schools with enrollments of 531.1 average to 752.5 average. The approximately 935 students of the combined Mercerburg high school puts them nearly 200 students above the upper limits of the 2A boundary. With 3A having a range of schools with 752.6 average to 1040.5 average students, the new school would appear to actually be closer to 4A in size than 2A...

Here's a thought, how about getting some feedback from your coaches association and member schools before forcing this on them...

Exactly... But the problem here is that year Lawrence County wound up playing at Mayfield. Louisa (where LC is located) is on the Big Sandy river which forms the eastern border with West Virginia. Mayfield is near Paducah which is not far from MISSOURI... How is that helping reduce costs?? Plus, if the KHSAA is planning on dipping into the gate receipts in the third and fourth rounds (saw that in another thread) that makes it an even greater financial burden on the traveling team in extreme cases like this. Poor plan, poorly thought out and DEFINITELY poorly executed...

If I remember correctly, LC was the fourth seed out of their district that year. And yes, they were HUGE underdogs...not sure of the spread, but I believe it was well in the ballpark of 40...

Last year, Russell's last regular season game was against Fleming County to decide district champ and final standings. After Russell won, through tie-breakers Fleming wound up fourth. With the new format, the Devils would have turned around and had to play the Panthers again the following week. Personally though, I don't have a problem with most of this proposal except for the blind draw. If this is going to be the way they go, they should move games to neutral sites after the second round.

The teams playing in the games get NO money from the gate so what do they care??? The schools won't suffer any from a drop in attendance, it will only be the KHSAA coffers. I fail to see how this would hurt the "county schools" all that much...

Heck, they could play beer league now if that's all they want to do...NKY really needs to get with the times and let this "sport" pass the way of the dodo bird.

I believe the region starts Memorial Day...not sure about the draw...

The fact the KHSAA still sponsors a team championship in slow pitch is a joke...

I think the story about the board meeting shows what most folks in Ironton are really interested in as far as their schools are concerned. More people come out to complain about a coach retiring than have probably attended every board meeting in the last year combined...way to have your priorities straight...

Ironton had their primary election last week and there was a school levy on the ballot. The tax was needed for the system to build new schools, especially a new high school. Coach Lutz appeared in a TV ad asking for support for the levy. I believe it finally passed after at least one failed attempt and now, the week following the vote, he announces his decision to retire. Good thing for the schools he waited, otherwise, I doubt it would have passed.

No offense to Coach Lutz, but it seemed to me that he maybe had more power within the halls of IHS than a high school football coach should have. Not to say or intimate that he did anything malicious or untoward with his leverage, but the school almost seemed to be secondary to the athletic department (especially football) for too many people over there. Is it just a coincidence that Lutz didn't announce his decision until after the vote on the school levy? I seriously doubt it...

I don't know the specifics of KCU's (it's a university now Woody...:thumb:) situation, just know what I am hearing from my usually reliable sources. And yes, it is a local high school coach that will be taking the reins of the fledgling program...

I have heard that Kentucky Christian University in Grayson is adding football and will be announcing their pick for head coach soon. It looks like another area high school will be looking for a new coach soon...:sssh:
