I think when it comes down to it, you have to trust the blind draw process. You may not like the way it was done, but you have to give the KHSAA the benefit of the doubt on the blind draw.

 

However, with all the above in mind, I believe future blind draws need to be more "public" in nature and the question I am asking is just how should it be done?

I think the odds of KHSAA drawing 1 to play 2 and 7 to play 8 four times in a row (A,AA,AAA and AAAA) is 1/7 x 1/7 x 1/7 x 1/7 x 1/5 x 1/5 x 1/5 x 1/5 x 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4, or 1 in 384,160,000. I could be wrong as I am not a math guy.

 

Once again, 28 out of 32 districts are unaffected by a blind draw.

Despite personal feelings, I don't think we have to trust anything the KHSAA does with regard to Louisville/private schools, let alone with those odds.

NO WAY, was it a blind draw. The odds are too great for them to have drawn out the district match-ups the way that they did.

 

Why was there no mention of this to the Coach's Association prior to the draw?

 

Why wasn't there any input asked from the member schools, etc..?

 

Fact is, there WAS NO BLIND DRAW done in 1A and 3A. You can plainly see that they kept it the way it has been on purpose.

Look, I respect the source I have regarding the draw's legitimacy, but the odds are just too high for me to believe. Hell, my priest could have done the draw and I wouldn't have believed it with those odds.

 

How about some info on how the draw was performed. Was it just one man in a room? Were all 8 numbers in a hat or separated?

The case is called fraud. I put in a call to KHSAA yesterday, but they have not responded. May call Jody later to see if he has any info.

I can accept and take at face value that a blind draw was done and that the results came out as they did. I know some KHSAA people and I do trust their integrity. That said PERCEPTION is everything as we heard ad nauseum in the public/private debate and if there is a strong enough perception of impropriety then that is reason enough for change.

 

My problem is the way that this was handled. I have no problems with the changes BUT IMVHO what should have happened was and announcement of the new policy and holding the blind draw at a future date with the opportunity for schools to send witnesses or even holding it in public like the draw for the Sweet 16 is done. It sure would have saved a whole lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth on here had the draw been done publicly.

Guru, I'd say the best thing for the KHSAA to do next time is to actually make it a "blind draw" and not just put all the "1" and "2" in a hat and draw them and then do the same with "7" and '8."

 

Honestly, it should be just like the Sweet 16 draw but that will never happen because we all know the Sweet 16 is the sacred cow!

Do it in public. Wouldn't take a few moments to do and would allow any coaches/admins who want to be present to do so. It would eliminate any questions about how the draw was conducted and people could just complain about their luck, ... just like some do for the Sweet 16!
