Watch Out For Rowan County This Season

Featured Replies

Rumor has it that Rowan County has picked up a new player that just moved to Morehead. She is a 5'10" freshman and is already considered the most athletic player on the team. I will pick Rowan County as a team to keep on eye on this season.

Transfers tend to help teams a lot these days.

Where did this girl transfer in from?

Somewhere in Indiana (Indianapolis possibly).

Ahhh, I detect a hint of the proverbial sour grapes :p

No sour grapes.

Transfers can help everyone.

Fortman came to Russell from Dayton before her freshman year, Sterling to West her senior year, Rose Hill got some transfers this past year, Mullins-Galloway to several schools East, Boyd, KCC, etc.

The list goes on and on over on the boys side of the ledger also.

If you live on transfers you may have some good teams, but not a strong PROGRAM.

That's not how I read the "tone" of the 1st post, sorry. So,,if I follow,,transfers won't build a program...Perhaps someone should notify the folks at Mouth of Wilson.

Apples and oranges.

What championship do they compete for?

A mythical championship.

Need I ask what happened to Rose Hill after the celebrated transfers left the fold?

Have they had a winning season since?

I will say I look for Coach Fraley and his team to have a big season this year. Euton and Jackson can play.

If you're comparing apples and oranges, you can't make a blanket statement. With regards to championships, I have to believe most coaches would rather be #1 USA Today vs. #1 16th region, mythical or otherwise. With regards to programs, many have had recent success "without transfers" but most have been continually mediocre or worse and I'd guess would love a transfer every now and again. So, does Fortman count as a program builder since she came before her Freshman year?

Russell girls have been strong before Fortman and before the current coaching regime.

Oak Hill is a PREP school not a high school. It is apples and oranges.

Obviously you see it your way and I see it mine.

That is why forums and private messaging is so fun.

Hypocritical IMO.

How is that hypocritical??? What did he criticize to begin with? He just made a statement that transfers have helped several teams , boys and girls, but that they don't build strong programs. Same thing at the collegiate level with JUCO's...sometimes they come in and help out for a year or two, but they rarely, if ever help establish a strong program that can sustain itself over time. Again I ask, how is his statement hypocritical?

On another note...I will have to say that Rowan definitely has the best looking bench in the region...:thumb:
