Looks like I expected- tie 7-7. Good solid football. I was shocked at the SIZE of the kids this year. Season Prediction- questionable at best. State champs again??? Kids have to step up and play.

Russell put two solid squads on the field, combined they should make a pretty darn good team. The line is stacked, Jones at QB is a threat to run on design or to tuck and run, Nick Lewis ran very well and will provide another threat from the backfield, and of course you still have Kasey. Although Sizemore played QB tonight, he will be a player who can do anything he's asked to do and he'll do with intensity and skill. He's one of the best open field blockers around and he takes pride in it. Another kid who impressed me was Seth Harvey with his quickness and strength, not to mention he looks like a man among boys with his size. Overall I was very happy with level of play, many kids look ready to step in and fill the few holes left from last year team but there is still alot of work to be done.

The size of the line, the depth of the positions and the speed of the backs- wow! 2 Kickers who can kick from 47 yards out- WOW. Miss the long kickoff of MEKO, but kickers looked good too tonight.

Does Russell have a traditional scrimmage this week?

I think we scrimmage Spring Valley on Saturday and Cabell-Midland on Tues., both are WV teams.

How did the secondary defense look? Are there solid replacements for Horn and Brown?

I really don't feel comfortable commenting on that at this time....

Just Kidding GrayBeard! The secondary is solid. Horn had great speed last year, but I don't think we give up that edge this year. Receivers will pay a painful price when they venture into the Devil secondary. Jacob Sizemore is a headhunter. Kasey has great range and ability, Marcus Frazier can cover as well. I thought the scrimmage overall was typical. There were some good plays, but they had the two teams balanced quite well so there weren't any breakout performances imo.

Hard to tell much about an intrasquad scrimmage which amounts to little more than a glorified open practice for the fans. Coaches had the talent pretty well evenly dispersed. Looks like many talented kids and good depth should produce another long playoff run...

Good from last night ....

Offense

Line 62,55 .. rest where just big .. no one really fired out ...

Ends ..66 was impressive , let's throw him the ball ...

Backs .. obvious Beekman , Clark , Sizemore at QB ... Devils have to have some balance for playoffs ...

Defense ....

Safeties .... Clark and Sizemore

Corners ... ?

Linebackers .... didn't see anyone step up .. looks to me Wills and Jones will be inside backers...

Line .... deliver a blow ... 55 and 62 again ... rest just big ...

Overall , Devils looked good ... 74 and 75 have big potential upside , hit the weights and run .... 32 ,44 ,25, 5 , 60 , the Abrams( spelling) kids and others also have big upside.

Cabell Midland is always a good measuring stick .... I remember one year they just killed us and even stopped Josh Gross cold ...

When is the next scimmage date and time??

Sounds to me like Russell is about to reload! You guys have had a solid football team for a long time now. My pre-season #1 in class AA is Russell. To be the big dog you have to get by the biggest dog. That wont be easy for nobody this season.

Russell will go 13-1, 14-1, or 15-0 is my prediction.

I think a perfect regular season is very possible.

I agree, the coaches did an excellent job of dividing up the roster. I thought the O-line did a nice job on both rosters. Wills and Gullett as always were good, but some others I thought played well also. Juniors Tobey Hicks and Adam Foster looked good at Tackle and Guard respectively. Cory Hall made a nice catch and run over the middle as the TE. I think the RB's will pick up where they left off with Jones, Lewis, Beekman and Clark making for a nice tandem of runners. Throw in a few play calls for Sizemore and we shouldn't be hurting for Offensive fire power this year.

Defensively, I think Lewis proved that he can replace Horn on the one corner this year. As for the other corner, I'm sure Coach Morris will have talent to choose from to man that spot. With Sizemore and Clark roaming the secondary as well, the backfield looks pretty good. The D-line and 'backers will round into shape as well.

I think overall it was a good first scrimmage for the fans. I;m sure the next 2 against S. Valley and C.Midland will provide a good test for the guys trying to win and keep spots for the upcoming season.
